    I was attacked by a tumbleweed too, once, and I fought it valiantly for about 3 minutes. It's one of the few plants that can cause you considerable injury after it's dead and being blown about by the wind. The tumbleweed has sharp large thorns that pierce flesh and their woody stems are like steel. Very nasty plant...lovely song written about them, though, sung by the Sons of the Pioneers, and I love that song. But the real plant... wow. 🎉

    I got a story about attacking tumbleweeds. It was November 1976 at Fort Bliss Texas. I was in Basic Training. Me and three other guys were going back to our barracks after KP, it was almost dark. Ther was a storm brewing and it was very windy.
    Out in the desert past the chain link fence around the post, there was a huge black hairy pulsating monster coming towards us. It was about 300 yards away. It got to the fence and hopped right over. It's big as a house. It picks up speed and comes on fast. The other guys ran into the barracks but I had to see what this thing was.
    I stepped aside and it crashed into a barracks walk. It was hundreds of tumbleweeds.

    Great scary TV series!!! But "Hysterical women" who just couldn't handle stress and either needed hugs from strong men or more typically a man's slap in the face to shake them out of it... was such standard fare back in the day! Pretty annoying actually. Now adays I'm good with more of a Wonder Woman vibe!

      Right? Make you wonder which is worse, evil sentient tumbleweeds or hysterical women in pearl necklaces.
      Of course, it makes a lot more sense when you realize just how many middle-class women back in the 50s and 60s were being given prescription methamphetamine. Particularly the wives of screenwriters, it would seem.

    Fun Quiz: Which one of these two actors won the Congressional Medal of Honor in WW2?

    • @pastateconstablesoffice
      @pastateconstablesoffice 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Sally - respectfully, from a fellow Outer Limits Fan, there is no such thing as the "Congressional" Medal of Honor, but the common misconception is understandable.
      The Medal of Honor is a Combat Medal awarded by the Executive Branch (President). The confusion is likely a result of the "Congressional Medal of Honor Society" - an organization, created by an Act of Congress in 1958, whose Members have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
      There is a "Congressional Gold Medal", the highest Medal awarded to Civilians by the United States Congress, which may be awarded for many reasons, and is not specific to Military Service.
      If your Post was referring to Actor Eddie Albert, he was a member of the US Coast Guard who transferred to the US Naval Reserve, serving during WW II.
      He was awarded the Bronze Star with a "Combat V" (meaning a Bronze Star awarded for Valor or Heroism during Combat, rather than some other merit or achievement) for acting as a Coxswain, commanding a boat that rescued 41 Marines and supervised the rescue of 30 more.
