    To all the future sailors who have watched up until this point, I give you one word of advice: Persevere. Persevere through the beatings, through the yelling and screaming, through the confusion, through the constant scrutiny and evaluations, through everything keeping you from your final goal. To become a United States Sailor. Because let me tell you, it's worth it.

    • @CrankyPantss
      @CrankyPantss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorin Markov What beatings are you talking about? They don’t beat the recruits in boot camp.

    • @bocephus6012
      @bocephus6012 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      CrankyPants not actually beating them. Its just a term for when you get punished and have to do exercises

    • @mkjsb
      @mkjsb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Boot camp 1972, punch in the gut for messing up a general order, not a beating but an attention getter.. never messed up again. And agree with Markov...well worth the efforts. I’d do those 8 years again in a heartbeat

    • @Dom_The_Otaku
      @Dom_The_Otaku 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorin Markov I will take this advice and hopefully remember this throughout my life now, and during boot camp.

      The Page 13 is mainly in reference to not spoiling or giving out the "answers" to the evolutions during BST. The footage shown here is not in any sort of sequence and doesn't give anything away

    8:36 that was me hugging my dad for the first time in 2 months. When I tell you that graduation was the greatest moment of my entire life, I mean no exaggeration by that. I never knew this series was filmed until just now, there is a lot that they didn’t show but it was pretty accurate! To anyone who is wondering weather or not joining the navy is the right choice, it is and it will change your life forever!

    Man things have changed and it's only been a few years.
    Few advice for future sailors:
    Squeeze in some light workouts during P-Days (push ups, curl ups, jumping jacks) or else you're gonna feel like crap once the PT and PRT starts.
    Know the ranks, General Order, Sailor's Creed, etc before shipping out, it'll save you some hassle.
    Just do what you're told, show discipline, get along with your division and be on time!
    Snag a leadership position, you may advance rank after graduating ;)

    To everyone who is going soon: remember that little book they gave you? Study it completely and your life will be much easier. 90% of your first test will be on there. You will be asked questions while you're being inspected and they will come directly from that book. Mostly Chain of Command, 11 General Orders, and rank insignia.
    Good luck to everyone! It's a bit tough, but stay motivated! See those happy faces? The proud parents? That will be you!

    • @deanharstad5404

    • @KingoftheSage
      @KingoftheSage 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@aguythatlikesrice8075 it's not like they're gonna fail you for not knowing. It just makes your transition much easier. You'll get yelled at less if you know it.
      Chain of Command, General Orders, Rank. Those are the big ones. Break it down into smaller pieces. I remember certain things about my 11 General Orders. Like 6 and 11 are long. (6 is half way and 11 is last it's about night so 11 at night), 4 is like golf when you yell to let others know what is coming, 5 is like when you get off work from 9-5 job. Just remember certain pieces about it.
      Also when you get your Blue Jackets Manual KEEP IT! EVEN AFTER A SCHOOL! That shit is on your advancement exams. Keep your notes from A School. Those are a majority of your questions on your advancement exams.

      Esca, I was 34 when I went to RTC. (bit of a midlife crisis, actually). So, I was the old man of my division (even though this one dude was 4 months older, and about 40 seconds slower than me. Lol). It was, by far, one of the hardest things I've ever done, but not fur the reasons you may think.
      I was in terrible shape going in to it. I literally put out my last cigarette, 10 minutes before boarding my plane to fly to Chicago. Don't worry about getting in shape, as that will take care of itself.
      I physically did things I never thought I would be able to do after I turned 23 or so. And, for the most part, I enjoyed about 97% of it.
      I'm sure you'll love it.

      Cristina Garcia Navy bootcamp is easy man mentally its sorta tough have someone write you get addresses before you ship out but be confident in everything you do and you’ll make it i just graduated a school ill be going to my next command soon be confident and you can do anything in the Navy.

      ColaKhanable wow you just graduated. It’s crazy because I’ve heard about ppl failing so that’s what scares me the most. I know that I am a strong person and have dealt with a lot so mentally I know I am a strong person. I just think sometimes I’m giving everything my job and all and leaving my apartment and joining so if I fail bootcamp it will all be for nothing. And I am driven to not give up in bootcamp I know I can do this.

      When i went to Great Lakes back in 1986, i told my recruiter not to send me there after SEPT(because of the weather). Back in my day, you had 3 boot camps: Great Lakes, Orlando(for females), and San Diego. I tried to go to Orlando but it was booked solid until OCT and i didnt want to go to San Diego. I told the recruiter Great lakes but it had to be right after the 4th of July(my favorite holiday). BAM!!! Great Lakes, July 10, 1986. Graduated Sept 19th. *side note* IT WAS SO DAMN HOT THAT SUMMER IT HAD TO BE ONE OF THE HOTTEST SUMMERS IN CHICAGO HISTORY...and i love the heat.

    I am in the USAF E-5 6 years in and I remember when I was joining for boot camp. I would always look up videos of what it will be like. Now I sometimes go back and look at those same videos. I have looked at other branches boot camp videos too. I have noticed that there are a lot of videos of all the other branches but the Navy. Thanks for uploading this series and getting an insight. I could never find and videos explaining what the Navy boot camp was about. *Battlestations* looked intense! Again thanks for uploading and congrats all of those who made it. I hope there is a follow-up video in the future of everyone featured.

And I was heart broken because even though we briefly dated it was the most meaningful relationship I ever had and this video made me have A LOT more respect for this person.

    I'm glad I'm not the only former sailor watching these videos. I served from 89-98 as a submarine Nuke RO. Very proud of my time in and my hat is off to anyone who serves in any branch of the armed services. Not going to say it was easy or that I enjoyed it most of the time...but my time in prepared me for the future far better than some of my buddies who went to college. BTW...boot camp in Orlando was WAY less intense.

    My capping ceremony after battle stations was special to me. My uncle was an rdc and he was pushing a different division. He put a spotlight on me in the beginning and put boot camp on hardcore mode for me. I had a lot of extra pressure on me. That night as we were marching to battle stations, he drove by to head home saying "don't fuck it up." It was a long night. At the end when we were getting our navy ball caps my 2nd rdc got to me, looked at me, looked to his left and waved someone over to me. I thought it was over and I failed battle stations. Next thing I knew my uncle was in front of me shaking my hand and saying he was proud of me. That was all it took. I cried. That moment replays in my head whenever things get hard or I don't want to continue. I still have that pressure from him to succeed. He told me something one time when I was in bootcamp. He said it never stops. You always have to study, you always have to work to be better, to improve. That has stuck with me. It will for the rest of my life.

    The dude is going to the same A-School I went to in Meridian. He'll love it there, one of the most laid back A-school's in the Navy. As long as you pass your first room inspection and do good on the test, you get your green card and can wear civi's and leave base right away! Standing watch from 0000-0400 talking about our lives is one of the best memories I will ever have. Hooyah Navy!

    Boot camp '67 - an old anchor clanker. I was in very good physical shape after bicycle racing and weight lifting. Being fit is just one less burden. Boot camp is all about "awareness of details". You learn that if you take care of the little things the big things take care of themselves. In combat or your life in general, military training is gold.

    The week your ship is doing battle stations was something. We were the last divisions to go, so every night we'd hear these divisions tearing up the pway, yelling war cries. The night before mine went, these female divisions were screeching like banshees, kinda frightening when you hear that echo through the building.

    Congratulations to all the new squids. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
    I love the dress whites. Our's were so plain back in the late 60's/early 70's. Battle stations would have been nice back then. Going to GQ was a daily routine. But, the first time the BMOW said, "This is not a drill," was somewhat hair raising. Sitting down there below decks and wondering what was going on - nerve wracking. What is with the camouflage? Who the heck are you hiding from aboard ship? Our dungarees were very comfortable and extremely practical.

    I recently went through something similar but for high school students. It was like hell, but then I watched this then I realized how much more hell this is. We actually had sleep unlike them they barely had sleep. They had more pressure in fixing their seabags unlike us. We had 1 minute and 30 seconds to fix our seabag and not even everyone could finish it in that time. After the BLT I finally got my first rank up as Seaman Aprentince. Yes I know it's a low rank, but as a freshman it's pretty nice :)
