    I went through in '99, this was like a walk through my old high school. Everybody saying this is to easy is not taking into account the fact that this is a recruiting video. The navy isn't going to show you recruits at week 3 or 4, when they are completely sleep deprived, before they adapt to their new existence. The first week is the easiest week in a lot of ways, everyone is still super excited to be a part of something new. After that novelty wears off, before you become accustomed, life is kind of hellish. The good old days!

    My graduation was about a week ago and Petty Officer Sperry was my 2nd RDC while Chief Stigall was the 1st RDC of my brother division. The things in this video dont even scratch the surface of how intense and stressful bootcamp really is. If you guys are about to ship out to Bootcamp, just prepare yourselves mentally and especially physically. The 2 months go by extremly fast but the experience is what you make it. If you put in 110%, you'll come out with 110%. I would never change a thing about bootcamp nor could I express how much I've learned about myself and how far I can push my limits. Good luck to the new recruits out there and hooyah!

    How are 28 recruits unable to pass a baseline PFA? This failure falls on the recruiters and the individual for lack of preparedness.. If anyone fails this most basic assessment, with the exception of a medical condition, the Navy needs to hold their recruiter responsible. Like the Chief said, "If you're not ready, we don't need you".

    This brings back memories, 35 years ago When I went through Basic Training at San Diego in 1983, the Instructors were called Company Commanders, mine were both Chiefs, and we called them and all Company Commanders “SIR or Mam’m” and our Processing week or zero week was called R&O (Receiving and Orientation) and we were separated by sex by then. It’s interesting to see how much has changed and how much remains the same.

    I was there in 1990. Totally different. We had Companies. Our instructors were called Company Commanders. They didn't wear Marine uniforms. Whats up with the Chief telling them that if they aren't ready they aren't needed. It's his job to ensure that every one of the recruits is ready. If the recruits aren't ready they need a new Chief.

    Good one! As for the PFA failures. I can only give my example. I got DEP in the Navy 11 months before Boot Camp and what I did was work out in the gym 7 days a week and added basic swimming. By the time I got to RTC, I was ready. You got to prepare for training before you ship out if you want to be successful in overcoming RTC. From what I have just seen, I wish I could go back to RTC. However, my memories of RTC San Diego was enough for me.

      Don't worry though by the time you get to the fleet, you will gain a bunch of weight, everyone does, it's normal! Only in Boot and A school you will be in shape. Once on a ship, you won't have a lot of time to workout. On my ship the only personnel that worked out and used the ship's gym were the Officer's, because they didn't work much. Out at sea, everyday is a Monday, you will eat your 3 hot meals a day, and work 12 hours or more, the rest of the time, you try and sleep if you can. Good for you, if you can still get to the gym after working 12 hour days, 7 days a week out to sea! Oh, yeah in addition to your normal job, you will have to probably mess crank and also be assigned additional duties such as maintenance on water tight hatches, fire station's etc.. Lot's of work, but I enjoyed it, those 45 days straight in the Indian Ocean doing nothing but circles in the water went pretty fast!

    • @TheTurk56523
      @TheTurk56523 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JENDALL714: Gotta disagree with you regarding no time for PT. You gotta make time for PT to maintain body fat levels and not get your evals lowered because of PRT failures.

    • @JENDALL714
      @JENDALL714 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody really cares about PT in the fleet, it don't mean nothing in the fleet, you will see what I mean. You will do your PT test when you get back on land, and your buddies will grade you, LOL! I always "passed". This isn't the Army or Marine Corps. Good for you, if you have time to work out or are able to use the machine over all the Officers using the machines. Also, no where to jog on a ship, unless you are on a carrier, even then you aren't always allowed on the flight deck.

    • @TheTurk56523
      @TheTurk56523 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JENDALL714: I am not going to argue with you about PRT priorities in the fleet because every command is different. I know in my last command it was taken seriously with 23 PRT failures due to over body fat. All of it was because they didn’t have any time for PT.

      I started January 10, 1994, also in Great Lakes. The hardest part is the cold. It is brutally cold there in the winter. Every morning it was somebody's job to clean the 2-inch thick ice block off the *inside* of the glass. During the night, water vapor from everyone's breath would hit the windows and freeze. Uniform of the day included a bath towel, folded lengthwise in thirds, wrapped around our neck and mouth with a ski mask pulled down over it to keep our heads warm. My job was Yeoman, so I had to keep tabs of where everyone was at all times. Since everyone had ski masks on, I learned to recognize them by the shape of their head.
      Volunteer for a job and do it well. That makes a big difference to your RDCs.
      You're gonna love it. :)

      I was in from 84 through 90 going through bootcamp at Great Lakes. In our company we had a U.K citizen that joined the U. S Navy. He was shocked at first but made it through bootcamp. Later on he attended radio man and crypto school and was sharp as a tack. I went on to NTC Gunners mate A school and attended training with other sailors from Australia UK. Taiwan and the Philippines. The courses were challenging and every one had one goal, complete the training. The Navy tightened the standards especially with Damage Control training. We learned from the HMS Shetfield attack during the Falklands war how serious Naval warfare could be.
