MOGA controllers are awesome, I have the MOGA pocket for use with my HTC One and I only have good things to say about it! My experience has been awesome!
got the pro power for $45 on amazon, one of the best purchases in my life. this thing, coupled with the PS1, PSP, and some of those nintendo emulators on your phone is just awesome.
Awww yeaaah... Reaper! It's a pretty good game. It's got a really good soundtrack and really good graphics, although the gameplay is a little bit tedious. Another good one if you like that sort of game is Dark Lands. Limbo-like graphics, decent sound, gameplay is a bit tedious as well, but it's hard to put down. :)
If you have a standard PS3 controller, you can use it with your Android device. You just plug it in with a USB-OTG cable, so you don't even need to use Bluetooth for it. It looks like most games that supports MOGA also supports the PS3 controller, but you don't have any software for advanced setups unless the games themselves offer it. Games like Asphalt 8 gets a lot more fun with a controller, but Real Racing 3 lacks support. :(
Thanks for the review. I was considering the Pro, but the flaws you pointed are just too glaring. I need the screen to lean further back (like a Nintendo DS) and I don't want my thumb constantly hitting the right stick when I'm trying to press buttons. Maybe I'll change my mind later, but for now, how do you get a 360 controller to work with an Android phone. I'm not having any luck with my Wii remote either. :(
{Looks up OTG cable} I was afraid that's what you were talking about, John Square. I have something like that (it has two USB ports instead of one) and it works for a minute or so before the Xbox 360 controller seems to realize it's not connected to a PC or Xbox 360. That was on my older phone though (the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 running JellyBean) so I guess I could try it again on this one. I should probably also get a different cable since the one I used was of questionable quality (although the seller was really nice about it and even sent me another one), although it did seem to work using a computer mouse. Thank you for the advice anyway. Maybe you can help me with another issue: When using the Xbox 360 controller with an Android phone, how do I get it to settle on the Player 1 position instead of continually blinking and eventually not registering anymore?
SoundToxin Good point with Terraria, and I guess Minecraft if that's your thing (Minecraft pocket will never be satisfying to me). For emulation I'd rather just use my 3ds xl (yes android has more options, but it gets a little ridiculous emulation an n64 on a phone), and then I don't need to spend an extra 80 bucks. It seems silly to me to buy an extra controller to lug around for a device which isn't really even designed for gaming. I guess this just isn't for me.
GFJDean35 Funny you only agree with Terraria, that's the one example I actually felt strongly about. I tried Terraria on Android and thought the controls were just dreadful. I have 700+ hours in the PC version, so it was a bit disappointing to say the least. I bought Minecraft Pocket Edition when it came out on iOS, but once again I couldn't get into the touch controls so I didn't buy it when it came to Android. I also have reason to agree with your standing on emulation, as I have a SuperCard DSTWO in my 3DS XL for emulation. To finish it off, I don't play any games on my phone or even own a working controller. I probably wasn't the best source to answer you.
I got a HERO brand new off eBay for $25. Apparently the entire MOGA line's been discontinued? Anywho, excited to get it, as I recently started emulating PS1 games on my Galaxy S5, and the original MOGA Pocket just isn't cutting it, especially for the plethora of fighting games the PS1 has.I'd also like to get into Game Boy and SNES emulation, and the analog nubs for the MOGA Pocket just doesn't cut it. If anyone does want to try out a MOGA Pocket, they're on Amazon for under $10.
these controllers are less than 30$ on amazon. i got the hero for 22$. i like how i can simply take it anywhere and play my emulators. love playing crash bandicoot and spyro the dragon on my ps1 emulators.
I am currently on a tight budget, but I think once I have stable/good paying work I am going to get whatever top of the line nvidia card is +shield.... until then, I'm sticking with AMD and touch screen android games... 1st world problems. :(
My moga power control seems to be connected to the app and works in the moga app but as soon as the asphalt 8 or grand theft San andreas game launches the control doesn't no seem to work in the with the games can anyone help me?
Leroy Thomas read your booklet. anyways there are 2 different settings on the controller via switch on the bottom center either A or B. you have it on a switch it over to b and map the key bindings in game.
i cant see why these are worth any more than 30 bucks, thats what xbox controllers sell for and thier of much higher build quality than these things... how hard is it to make a GOOD controller and slap a phone holder on it? the software solution looks great i just cant see the justification for the extra bucks
Alright, well i would like to emphasize the built in battery on the controller as well as the integrated hinge design on the controller...Which! If I may say comes with a dedicated app on a smartphone to use. (Which you yourself have clearly agreed with).
Its a cool controller, and has some great features, but I'd stick with a psp if I want buttons and quality games. Quality games that break away from casual or pay-to-win scheme, are still few in number on both android and iPhone. Plus, I think the main draw for people who game on phones, is that they can have an average gaming experience without the need for bulky devices/multiple devices. These aftermarket controllers break that convention, that's why I don't understand why they exist. I guess, I am obviously not the target audience.
hi man i need your help with my pc Im trying to use EZ SMART RESPONCE on my gigabyte motherboard i have a blue WD 500 gb and ADATA SP900 128 gb ssd and when i restart the pc i getting error 25 when windows is booting. can you please help me or any one are that knows how to do it!! ThAnKs!!
Um I just use ps3 controller via bluetooth or usb with my note 3 that supports USB OTG. I have an app called sixaxis to set up profiles for games etc...
I have the 1st gen moga pocket and the latency is so bad it is unplayable with any games associated with the emulators. If it is even half as bad as as the one I have, I do not recommend. Use a spare Sixaxis PS3 controller or a Xbox 360 with an OTG cable.
Whoa. The style has changed so much over the years.

Been waiting long for this, nice review
Don't get rid of unboxings Linus.
I was actually looking these up after you mentioned them on the WAN show last night. I'm somewhat interested.
first I thought it was a video on the older series of controllers but then I saw it is a new generation now I gonna buy the power pro!
Never thought i would have come back this far
While I have zero interest in the products or smartphones in general, very well done for the video. Very good.

Great review Linus!
When are you announcing the contest winners?
You can also use the Moga pro controller in HID mode with a bluetooth dongle on a PC to play emulated games :)
oh man, you have that shield everywhere
If you can do more reviews of these type of controllers for mobile devices, I'd quite like to look into this subject further.
This + Tegra Tablet + Emulator = AWESOME!
is that a phone stand in your pocket linus...
I have the MOGA Pro. I guess I'm not as fussy as Linus, I have no problem using it for emulated platformers.
Could this work with splashtop? because then you have a slightly less ghetto shield!
Archos had the controller Android thingy a long while ago and the bind buttons to game features also.
Off Topic question: Wasn't there supposed to be a winner for the Gaming PC upgrade giveaway with TekSyndicate on November 22nd?
might buy one of these now.
great review man!
Will you upload the WAN show?I'm from Europe so I never get to watch it live :(
@Linus Tech Tips
Can you guys do another version with the current options for Sept 2017 ?
Logitch's also selling something similar to this product but they designed it apparently for the iPhone 5s.

When is the Xbone vs. PS4 video being posted?
that was really a fast unboxing. #linusonspeed
moga ace power pro is the one that I would like you to review
Do they connect to a PC as well? Because if they do they would be a really good base for a ghetto shield.
I think it should since it has HID mode but I'm not 100% sure and am still wondering the same thing.
They do with a software called ZeeMouse
hmm is this worth buying, I mean is it comfortable enaugh to actualy put any game time in it? (I am thinking about the Hero version).
Thanks for the review. I was considering the Pro, but the flaws you pointed are just too glaring. wii motes only work on old devices. you need an otg cable and a wired 360 controller or wireless adaptor
{Looks up OTG cable}

I zoned out & started thinking about pizza....good review.
I am genuinely curious, what phone games are worth buying a controller for?
Terraria, Minecraft Pocket Edition, anything you're emulating.

Would it be worth getting one of these or getting the psp vita and having that with a ps4?
So you didn't show us what is the longer USB cable for in the moment...
Nice, the future is bright :-D

I always see this, but I was never too sure if i should get it.

Matches your Pebble!
I cant wait for the logitech powershell controller for the iphone

It'd be nice if the moga had support for devices that support USB OTG.
These two controller remind me the Wii Classic and Pro controller
Linus give me all that stuff in the background !!!! ;D
Can u pls make more unboxing of razer products. Razer Kraken 7.1 maybe?.:)
I am currently on a tight budget, but I think once I have stable/good paying work I am going to get whatever top of the line nvidia card is +shield.... until then, I'm sticking with AMD and touch screen android games... 1st world problems. :(
I'm not willing to step down my GPU from an OC'd 7950 (1200/1550)

Simpsons reference. That deserves a like in itself.

Could you use splashtop and make this a shield?

does the nvidia shield work with amd cards for gamestream?
If only the moga could connect to a PC. Ghetto shield v2 would be born.
Thumbs Up!
so basically the PRO version, to be legitimate PRO, should have the AXYB buttons and the D-pad from the HERO
Where's the Xperia z1 review!!?!?

22assaf Yes, that's correct spelling but it's not correct grammar.

you can connect dualshock to xperia z1:)
Interesting, I still have my money down for the Phonejoy Play...the ever delayed Kickstarter controller.
...those are the pants that I'm wearing...
@@ I saw this from Logitech the other day , now another brand. But this one seems more impressive.
On all Sony phones and tablets you can use a Playstation controller to play games aswell
