Manapouri is a really nice place as is Lake Te Anau which is not very far away. My girlfriend and I went out to the underground power station at the end of the lake on a tour, which was amazing, then many years later I was the pilot of an aerial photography aircraft that photographed the power lines from Manapouri to Mt Mary near Lake Tekapo from altitudes around 25,000 feet which allowed me to see from one side of the South Island to the other. Hope you enjoy your time in the Deep South as it is a very nice part of New Zealand.
Have you listened to the song by John Hanlon called Dam the dam, it was a protest about raising the height of Lake Manapouri, which in the end restricted the height they raised the lake.
