    I love watching your videos. I hired a boat with my wife and her family over the Shannon in 2018 and Upper and Lower Lough Erne in 2019 because of your videos. Unfortunately I lost her to cancer last year but I love watching your videos especially that mad one through the Ardnacrusha Dam. God bless you both and I look forward to watching more from you.

      We're very sorry to hear that you lost your wife only last year, That must be terribly painful and you have our very sincere sympathies.
      I do hope that the two holidays on the waterways were memorable ones that you both enjoyed. We're really glad that you enjoy the videos and hopefully you will get out on the waterways again soon. Who knows you may do the Ardnacrusha run yourself some day. Best wishes for the future. H&M

    Hi folks,
    I delighted to see the extent of the progress on linking the Shannon to L Neagh . Back in the late 1980's some friends of mine had a property in Ballinamore. One dull day , out driving I spied through the hedging what I thought was a lock. I made everybody get out and have a look and sure enough it was one of the old Ballinamore - Ballyconnel canal locks. I knew nothing about it at that time, but with some painful research, no internet back then, I found out some of the history. Since then I keep an eye on progress. So much water to explore, brings out the adventurous kid in me. That kid hasn't been very far away for the last 60 odd years.
    I watched your video on castle Archdale. It brought back memories of a holiday there in the 1960's just before everything kicked off for the worse up there. Its where I learnt to row in the little sailing dinghy my father had towed behind his old Ford Anglia. They wernt very big inside! He tied a long rope to one of the mooring rings on the very wide seaplane slipway and the other to a ring on the transom. I spent what seemed like ages rowing about within the arc of the mooring ring. 😄 I do remember there was a regular swell into the caravan park bay. It could have been windy out on the lake , but as you say there is a lot of shelter about the islands.
    Stay safe

      Thanks Loki, hope that you'll get a chance to cruise the Shannon Erne Waterway / Ballinamore Ballyconnel canal. They did a great job on the restoration. Castle Archdale has a wonderful history as you'll know, we were born into a very lucky generation.
      Many thanks

    Love exploring Ireland's waterways with you. The Google Earth overview at the beginning was very helpful in getting my bearings. The drone footage adds a lot too. Well done!

    Great to see the blogs again. I'm itching to get a boat and take it seriously. I learnt a lot about solar and have built a system at home. Doing a lot of cycling on the Royal canal at the moment, must have just missed you in Mullingar. Keep it up, thanks, Sean

    It's really brilliant to see your production skills advance! The drone shots are brilliantly placed, the secondary camera angles off the boat and the close ups of the CLOSE UPS you have with some of the banks and moorings! Brilliant stuff!!

      Thanks Raymond, the Bridy is okay so long as you proceed slowly. A 60ft barge would find it very difficult I'd imagine. 👍

      I can't help but think that some of the local land owners could certainly have been more helpful, but sure it will slowly progress regardless.

      Hi Kim and thank you very much 👍 Boat prices often go down a bit at this time of year, but make sure to get it checked out properly before handing over your hard earned cash. Gavin is a decent lad to deal with🙌 Good idea to look at plenty boats so you know what to expect for your budget. Best of luck and hope to see you on the water. H&M

    Shannon erne is a wonderful waterway.i had a beautiful spring over night stay at castle saunderson earlier this year with a wonderful early morning walk through the forest which I saw 3 or 4 deer enjoying their surroundings and freedom of the forest.I just can't understand why waterways ireland made the bridge so narrow and tight and also I hear a lot of complaints from other boaters around belturbet and the Erne that you cruise all the way up to castle saunderson to find there is no room to moor because there are 3 boat there already.Surely waterways ireland should have fitted a bigger jetty??and whoever built the bridge must have had road users in mind and not boaters any boat over 40ft is tricky.but that said I will be back very soon.Thank you for sharing.

    • @DriftwoodBoatBlog
      @DriftwoodBoatBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Derrick, ye it certainly is a great waterway. I'm with you on the bridge, clearly designed by someone who never set foot on a boat 😀👍

    hi Harry I was talking to you and your wife at ballyconnell with my dad just before the video lol. my question is do you need to get a different map to see were you are going I don't see it on my map to Castle saunderson

    • @DriftwoodBoatBlog
      @DriftwoodBoatBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alan, good to hear from you and we really enjoyed meeting you in Ballyconnell. This part of the navigation doesn't appear on most charts yet because it's just too new. But I use the electronic charts (csig) on my phone. They're freely available to all iwai members. They show this navigation 👍
      Hope that helps. H&M
