Simply the Best duet with Jimmy Barnes is a brilliant song to sample
Jimmy Barnes and Tina Turner (Simply) The Best is a must watch it is simply the best song and duo
Omg guys you must must must do her live version of Proud Mary and Nutbush on her One Last Time tour in Wembley in 2000 - she is incredible in this concert - her energy is out of this world considering she was about 60 yo at the time! That’s my two cents! 🙋🏽♀️
Agreed @Liz that is a mind-blowing rendition - great suggestion!
Yes 👍
I had to run out the door so i just got back and watched the Tina and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named version. Just brilliant, as always. Love Tina and her backup singer's energy and moves. The band is great but 'that guy' is a major drag. Anyway Tina on her own puts on an amazing show. I saw her many eons ago in Toronto and then saw her the next day at the Royal York Hotel sitting on a shoe-shine chair with a small crowd around her and had to go up to say hello and say how great the show was. the thanks with a wave and a smile just made my month. i was a-glow!!
I knew you’d love Tina’s performance. The whole thing, and especially the Ikettes going wild in the background.
Showmanship at its best.
By the way, imagine if you were booked on a show to play after Tina doing her thing in that sort of performance. How do you follow that?
So good!
Creedence was the first cassette I bought in about 1972. They were really big in Australia. Loved them.
So the original is brilliant.. and then someone comes along and does that! Man, that must have been amazing to see someone do that to your song.. Ike may not have been a great human being, but he was a brilliant musician who arranged both the vocals and the band. There's lots of versions of them doing this live. I do like this version though. And I love when Ike is trying not to smile and how on point she is. That band was tight. The Ikettes were brilliant and there are not enough words to describe how brilliant Tina is. I'm so surprised that you guys didn't know this song and weren't familiar with either band. Tina is absolutely the Queen of Rock. Would love to see a Tina Turner feature week. And CCR are great in their own right. You should really check out River Deep Mountain High. And she did a couple of live TV appearances after leaving Ike with Cher and Ann Margaret which are classic performances in their own right. Tina pretty much had three careers and she was brilliant across all three. And by the way, she never thought she was pretty... which breaks my heart because she is one of the most incredible looking women that ever walked the planet. We might be a bit obsessed with Tina in Australia. Ask Chris about the Nutbush dance we do here in Australia.
Big CCR fan as a teenager in Nz. A school friends dad had a stereo with big speakers we’d put Cosmos factory on loud. Run through the jungle was my favourite
TINA dared to perform this song on her final farewell tour at the age of 70, and she still rocked it. This is HER song. Actually, John Fogerty ( the creator of the song and leader of the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revival was an open act for some of Tina US Concerts in 2000.
CCR had kind of passed me by for many years until one day I fell down their rabbit hole and have never looked back since - a treasure trove of classic songs.
Personal favourites of mine which really should be checked out are Ramble Tamble and Keep On Chooglin'. You won't regret it
Thanks Chris!!!!
CCR´s "Midnight Special" is really worth checking and Ike & Tina´s "River Deep Mountain High", and many other Tina really good stuff "beyond Thunderdome" 🤣
Great reaction guys
So many songs to mention but I will anyway😆
I heard it through the grape vine.
Fortunate son
Bad moon rising(from America werewolf in London)
Down on the corner
Have you ever seen the rain
Suzie Q
Looking out my back door
I put a spell on you
Up around the bend
Long as I can see the light
Green River
Hey tonight
And the list goes on.
One of my favourite all time bands.
Thanks again guys you are the best 👌
Ps.
I know aussie week is well and truly over but I would love to see you react to Hoodoo Gurus in the future.
Another great favourite of the pub and BBQ scene here in Oz.
Loud is the best way to listen this group. 🙌
Party time 🍺
WOW
@@TheThamesmen Hi Alex and George I'm flip, just signed up for patron but I used this email by mistake.
Tech can be so hard for an old bloke like myself🤣
Keep on Rockin'
Just loved CCR in the day and was so disappointed when they stopped. A sad, sad story but I see John Fogerty each and every time he comes to town. Always brilliant. Make it a date, put it in your calendar. just a great evening with an incredible catalog of songs and a fantastic guitar player to boot.
Very cool
Yes, Proud Mary is a riverboat. CCR are so cool, they were/are very big in Australia and New Zealand.
Tina Tuner has a strong connection to Australia, other than Mad Max - Thunderdome. In 1990, the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) got Tina Turner to sing Simply the Best to promote the 1990 Winfield Cup Rugby League competition.
This is the promo video: th-cam.com/video/Z-P0085ii4Q/w-d-xo.html
In 1992 Tina Turner and Jimmy Barnes recorded Simply the Best. This is the studio recording of Tina and Jimmy in 1992: th-cam.com/video/crAgnI9BF6M/w-d-xo.html
In 1993 Tina Turner performed Simply the Best Live at the Rugby League Grand Final: th-cam.com/video/-14FAwiWF1Q/w-d-xo.html
Well I urge you to see the last live version of Tina doing this at a stadium show (02?) anyway it’s mind blowing how good she is (at any age). So lucky to see a double bill of Tina with Tower of Power back in the 70’s. So funky!
Great reaction guys. Tina Turner live was just spectacular. She really was a Stadium Rocker I loved her shows. My favorite of hers is a song that David Bowie wrote called Girls or her Privat Dancer Album is just brilliant
CCR. Part of the soundtrack of my childhood, here in Oz.
Ditto Kel, big time
The reason why CCR was playing so close to each other is because those short amp cables wouldn't let them go anywhere! 🤣
Seriously, though, when I think of the term "classic rock," they're the first name that comes to mind. So many great songs in such a short period of time. Fogerty is a legend.
That season of Black Adder is amazing. I love actually getting obscure references.
John Fogerty needed a much longer chord connecting his guitar to the amp. Love CCR and Fogerty. Lots of classic tunes.
I'm far more familiar with the studio version of both. Seeing Tina Turner nail that opening to the song live is incredible.
Man I loved CCR's Proud Mary almost as much as Grapevine The good old days
The way I this song its about a cleaning lady hence the following lines
"I left a good job in the city
Working for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleeping"
"cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
Pumped a lot of tane down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
Until I hitched a ride on a riverboat queen"
but it could also be about a paddle steamer or both
As already mentioned , One last time tour 2000. Also ccr is well worth a deep dive. Either of these you won't be disappointed. As for the intro- Do you remember the seals playing air horns at the circus. Great work all round. It might not sound a big deal but I look forward to your reactions.
Noted - What's next?
CCR were fantastic. They hold two records in the same sort of category. They never achieved a number 1 on Billboard’s Hottest 100, yet had five Number 2 singles and nine Top Ten singles. No artist got more number 2s or Top Tens whilst still having a number 1 elude them.
John Fogerty is a guitar riff machine. If you watch his Long Road Home concert you can see him being the absolute powerhouse of CCR, although the band was a monster rhythm section behind him.
Born On The Bayou is his real killer track for me, in spite of his never really having been a good ol’ boy. Sort of like Brian Wilson having been such an influence on a generation of surf culture imagery without really being into it himself.
Here’s their Born On The Bayou performance at Woodstock ‘69:
th-cam.com/video/_9KKo8mZ5Eo/w-d-xo.html
They were the first band signed on for that concert, I believe.
Didn't even know they played
Alex & George, it's terrific that you've just had a first taste of CCR; as far as songs to look for, I'll try to lay these out in album order from first to later. (Of course, you could buy both of the greatest hits compilations too, but, let's try to do better!)
Off of "Creedence Clearwater Revival: "I Put a Spell on You", "Suzie Q", and "Ninety-nine & a Half (Won't Do)";
off of "Bayou Country": "Proud Mary" and "Born on the Bayou";
off of "Green River": "Green River", "Bad Moon Rising", "Lodi", and "The Night Time Is the Right Time";
off of "Willy and the Poor Boys": "Down on the Corner", "Fortunate Son", and "Effigy";
off of "Cosmo's Factory": probably just buy this entire album, but I particularly like these songs..."Ramble Tamble", "Travelin' Band", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Up Around the Bend", "Who'll Stop the Rain", "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", and "Long As I Can See the Light";
off of "Pendulum": "Have You Ever Seen the Rain";
off of "Mardi Gras": "Someday Never Comes".
Hope you will enjoy some of those in case you are looking to add songs to your personal favorite playlist or playlists. Thank you both!
It is odd but so many are having the same blind spot for CCR as you 2 do........but its a good thing because their huge catalogue is still waiting for you and is filled with absolute treasures. Incredible that they produced so much greatness in such a short time. It's super Americana next level stuff. Ike and Tina were fantastic too and totally different. But they did recognise the simple brightness in CCR songs. John Fogerty is a great songwriter, singer and guitarist. The band was solid as a rock. I hope you do some more. Fine choice.
Cool!!! Thanks
Thanks!
No problem!
Who doesn't love Credence Clearwater?.... Rhetorical question, cos I don't wanna know.😅 I knew about them before I knew about Tina Turner, but have much respect for her too. Anyway, I've always thought of CC to be the coolest band ever.
Angry played Tina's character's right hand man in thunder dome. He also played king Herod in the Australian 90's production of Jesus Christ superstar.
I do love Ike and Tina's performance of this song, it's my go to version when jamming.
What's next?
@@TheThamesmen Maybe Mollina? 😁One of my favourite songs of theirs, that no one ever plays, although I can't think why.🤷♀️
Cool that you did both versions! You'd love 'I Put a Spell on You' by CCR and by She & Him (Zoeey Deschanel's band live on Conan. This live performance will blow your mind).
In keeping with the covers theme... Redemptions Song: Bob Marley vs Johnny Cash with Joe Strummer, Ball of Confusion: The Temptations vs Love & Rockets, Be my Baby: The Ronettes vs Travis, Head On: Pixies vs Jesus & Mary Chain. Just discovered and am loving your channel Alex & George, and the curation Chris!
CooL@
Love and Rockets - Jesus and Mary Chain yessssss
@@TheThamesmen And if you'd like any suggestions next time you work your way back up to Canada (great choices so far), there are some great lesser known bands: The Stills, The Dears, Sloan, Platinum Blonde (the lead singer is from England)...
For Australia: The Church and Dead Can Dance also have some great songs for a reaction. Keep up the very high brow yet entertaining work :)
Cold Chisel covered a CCR song "Long as I Can See the Light" on their Swingshift live album. Worth checking out.
Glad John Fogerty wrote this, even though at the time never saw the Mississippi or hitched a ride on a river boat.
Maybe as a person that grew up in Australia we were just lucky. We were exposed to music from the States and the UK as well as having great local music. The style of Australian music was more heavily influenced by American/Canadian soul blues and country as well as the English invasion - Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck, Gilmore, Blackmore and the bands they were associated with . It was and is common for Australians to have a wide appreciation of music from Jazz, Blues, American songbook, American R&B, , Rock, Heavy Metal, Texas Blues, Country, English and Celtic Folk, English Invasion, Punk, British Pop (yuck - Stock Aitken and Waterman should have been drowned at birth) Reggae, Scar, Northern Soul. I live in the UK now. It still amazes me how insular the music is here still and often (but not always) how under-aware ppl in UK are of otherwise world famous music.
Cool - What's next?
Creedence for me is = John Fogerty and Proud Mary = Tina Turner
CCR Discography;
I put a spell on you (This is a must!!)
Suzie Q
Fortunate son
I heard it through the grapevine
Always loved Status Quo cover of John Fogerty's Rocking All over the world
I did not know that was a cover! Amazing
@@TheThamesmen Quo performed it well at Live Aid
Check out Its Only Love duet with Brian Adams and Tina Turner
John Fogerty wrote some amazing songs and Proud Mary was one of them one of the most covered songs of all time and there is a better live version of Tina Turner doing Proud Mary with the Ikettes in color as well
Tina's legs were insured for 3.2 Million dollars.
*Fun Facts I:* C.C.R. disbanded in 1972. Years later, lead singer & guitarist John Fogerty in 1985 released an album called Centerfold. The first hit single from that album *"The Old Man Down The Road"* was a big.hit. Credence Clearwater Revival's old record label Fantasy, who owns the rights to CCR catalog, sued John Fogerty for sounding like CCR. Fantasy lost their suit. That's why Fogerty wouldn't play any CCR songs for a long time.
*Fun Fact II:* In 1995, former members of Credence Clearwater Revival bassist Stu Cook & drummer Doug Clifford formed an offshoot CCR named Credence Clearwater Revisited. This time John Fogerty, who by this time acquired the rights of the old CCR songs he wrote & arranged, sued Cook & Clifford for using the name Credence Clearwater Revisited. John Fogerty lost this case.
My bad. That 1985 album was called *"CENTERFIELD"* by John Fogerty. Not *"Centerfold".* Centerfold was a song by the J. Geils Band off the album *"Freeze-Frame".* Both are good albums.
Great popular song by them. For another great one by CCR. I would suggest Born On A Bayou.
Cool!!!
Creedence takes me back to the Zen colony in 1970-ish, discussing poets like Yevtushenko, hitch hiking to a moon-dance, cooking up some magic mushrooms. Looking Out My Backdoor was my favorite of their songs. Sadly the band ended in recriminations and law suits.
Tina Turner does a great duet with Brian Adams
Really?
Could you please react to HammerFall - Hammer of Dawn or Brotherhood
Wi check. Thanks
Another Aussie link with Tina, she did a duet with Barnesy of her song The Best (aka Simply The Best) which they used as a promo for Rugby here).
Hi Guy I like both versions Creedence Clearwater revival, and Ike and Tina Turner. Ike was an a,hole to Tina Turner. Anyway. If you want to do a reaction to 2 bands singing the same song, you can't go past The Animals, and, The Angels. Singing, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place. They are both awesome, if you haven't done them yet. Anyway keep up the good work from Dave in Australia.
Thanks Dave. What's next?
Tina Turner was abused by Ike. She is fabulous as a solo.
Yeah, he was a dick
Hi Guys you could try Tina Turner Jimmy Barns and Diesel, Simply the Best Cheers CCR are great
Nope. If you cannot differentiate between the authenticity of CCR and Tina & Ike, you need more alcohol!
Isn’t Tina fantastic? Not to mention the Ikettes.
G'day, You try to pass yourselves off as music critics and you dont know CCR. Everyone should unsubscribe.
PS. The Tina Terner version wont ever come close to CCR
We don't pass ourselves off as anything - we are idiots.
@@TheThamesmen G'day I suspect you grew up thinkink Clif Richards is the king of rock and roll while Roy Orbison is the wild child on stage preformer.
Keep up the entertainment. I need a laugh at somebody.
