    Now I'm on Amazon looking for incubators. Thanks a lot. Lol. Really, that was well done and great to know results. I just literally watched a fox snatch up on of my hens the other day and before I could react with dissuasional tactics, he was gone with her. I really need to start hatching my own. The flock is dwindling.

      Oh no bad fox!! that is the hardest thing to deal with :( It was a good time to get the incubators going! we went over two years with out losing a single chicken to predators and then this really last few months has been brutal we had I think three separate break ins? Lost a total of I think 11 chickens its sooo awful :( The only thing to really keep in mind with incubators is 1/2 will be roosters! We need to get a better plan in place for what to do with all those alarm clocks ! ;)

    Sooo many babies!!! 🥰🥰🥰
    When I finally convince Anthony we need chickens will you hatch us some!??
    Why do you think the eggs exploded??

      OH MY GOD WE WOULD BE HONORED! and you would get frizzzzzles! No clue on those eggs. We are in some hatching groups on FB and it apparently happens sometimes but it has never happened here before. I am looking forward to next time seeing if it happens again and maybe its that incubator somehow.

    Our Brinsea 56 ex have an amazing hatch rate. We have a second that has a little damage but still great hatch rate. 99.6 temp 43 humidity first 18 days. At lockdown we set at 65. We also live in Washington State. Very low humidity levels. Numbers would drastically change in southern states. Dry hatching would be their option.

      Interesting thanks for sharing! With your Brinsea 56 ex have you had any luck with the turning motor burning out? We have had to have the motor replaced three times ! What a pain in the neck. At least its under the warranty.

    Really silly and dumb question, but when going into lockdown opening the lid and taking out the cradle and taking the eggs out and back in does it not affect the chicks inside the egg, it's gonna be my first time and I'm abit worried

  • @EventheSparrowHomestead
    @EventheSparrowHomestead 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a good comparison between the two. I wonder what factors contributed to the different hatch rates🤔? Age of eggs, color, etc...time to break out the Pareto charts lol

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We tried to make everything as random as possible with egg ages and colors and all that... but Josh said that sometimes electronics take some time to get acclimated to doing their job (he is a robotics programmer so maybe that is a little different) but if its true it makes sense because the little one was WAY better on its third turn than on its second and the second was WAY better than its first. so hopefully the big one will be the same

    Ordered Brinsea EX 56 and can't wait to use it. I live in the South and have been advised to dry hatch due to the naturally high humidity down here. Anyone have dry hatching experience?

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theres a whole facebook group about dry hatching, should check them out. We haven't ever tried dry hatching. Especially since we do a lot of hatching in the winter so we have grow outs for spring.

    So,so interesting, I love when you get baby chicks. I need a farm visit!

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chicks are looking like gangly teenagers now!! Let us know when you want to come by! Ann and Rick got the maiden voyage of the new kitchen but you need a home cooked meal in new kitchen also!

    Interesting the automated one wasn't as good. I wonder if and times using would turn into better results since machines sometimes run better after a few cycles through and setting up the "smartness" of it

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh really that is an interesting thought because the smaller incubator we have used three times and it isn't getting any smarter because its not automated but this is by far the best hatch rate it has ever given us. Maybe the big one will be the same! But since it is getting so cold we won't do any more hatches till spring so... it will be a while!

      @@OldReddingFarm Have you used the incubator since? I am wondering if due to the size the temp or something wasn't 100% I am looking at getting the 56ex but I am super novice, so I want something as hands off for me as possibe.

      @@ka3134 what did you end up getting? I am convinced that the 56 would benefit us so much, but a few bad reviews are quite scary about this bator.

    You can’t go wrong with the Brinsea. Until !!!
    Has the turner motor gear fallen off yet? Keep an eye on it. Brinsea knows about it and want to sell me another assembly. Instead of just sending a gear.

  • @ronnelechavez
    @ronnelechavez 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those incubators are overpriced. There are lots of cheap DIY wooden/styrofoam incubators that have the same (if not better) hatch rates and they can hold way more eggs.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We tried a styrofoam incubator many moons ago and could never get it up to temp and ended up selling it at a tag sale for $20. But since this video was posted we got one of the big sportsman GFQ cabinet incubators and its really very nice.
