My cockapoo got one in his nose a few years ago. Ugh, they are our arch nemesis and I'm absolutely paranoid about them on every walk. Two fox tails got stuck onto his shoes this evening! Glad your pup is okay.

Was your pup alright? I always check paws after every walk too. So much foxtail everywhere, at least in NorCal where I live rn.

Really appreciate you sharing this! I live in an area heavy wuth foxtails and get a bit anxious whenever my dogs cough or sneeze that they could've breathed in a foxtail.

And they can get imbedded in their skin happened to my GS he's recovering from surgery. He has double coat so hard to find them. Had no idea they were dangerous

I am so sad, I think my dog has one in her ear. I took her to the vet same day and the vet didn't feel comfortable sedating her because my dog is old and has a heart problem, he started talking about a chest x-ray instead but I declined. All he did was prescribed an otic solution. Called another vet and told me to take her to emergency where there is a cardiologist. It's very stressful and now am scared to put her under. About a year ago my other dog got a foxtail inside his nose and blood came out. Took him to emergency around 6 PM (after hour prices), was told he would be done in a couple hrs. Picked him up around 2:30 AM after I kept calling if he was ready but they hadn't even started until later that night. Vet told me he didn't find anything and that possibly my dog had sneezed it out, he also pointed there was too much blood inside his nasal passage and wasn't able to completely search further down the passage. $930+ later for incomplete procedure. Ever since that day my dog has a weird head shake when he gets excited. Hate when vets are inept and suggest to come back if things get worse, as if we pick money from trees.

Argh that sounds so frustrating. I’m so sorry you and your dog are going through this. Honestly this is precisely why I’d never want to be around foxtail again - if you don’t find it at the vet, it’s either happy story (=no foxtail) or super sucky story (=it’s gone too far and vet can’t do anything). I really hope it’s the happy case for your dog! ❤️

My German Shepard had this happen too. I had no idea they were that dangerous and could get under the skin like it did in mine. He had to have surgery to remove it. We are in recovery mode June 2024 it was scary. My dog got it in his neck. His whole snout swole up we thought it was his teeth. But they found several and one imbedded. Since he is double coated German Shepard you can always see them. We are just hoping that it's not something else besides the foxtails. I warned the GS owners in a group to look out for them. I have lived in Az and it's dry here and can't get rid of them. Have to check him every time he comes in from back yard. Glad I saw this post because I was looking for if this happened to other people. because a lot of people have no clue they have them and that can mess up your dog Glad your dig is ok hoping mine continues to get better and this doesn't happen again
