    Thanks for the comprehensive video for this make/model.
    You made a comment about using shock oil vs the recommended atf; I'm curious why you chose this route?

      I could have used transmission fluid. I already had some fork oil, so I decided to use that. Back when these bikes were made, there may not have been any fork specific oil. Transmission fluid will work, but I think fork oil is better. It also comes in different viscosities.

    hey wonkster
    I'm ready to reassemble my forks now. 14.57 the metal washer next to the spacer is a one direction washer curved on one side and machined on the other but I don't know how it faces can you help me here? don't know your name? thank you

      I put the flat side of the washer toward the spring.

      I didn't really go into detail about that in this video. The flat part of the washer should go toward the spring, It's basically the same procedure for the VT700 and the XL600R. I have videos on replacing the seals on them also.

    Hey i did exactly as you said but the forks are completely compressed no matter what i do to pump the air out of the forks. Its on a jack now, no leaks. The fork caps are off to get rid of air bubbles. Should i put the caps on and pressurize it? Im pretty lost. My forks were beyond a nightmare. Day 4 on this project ..

      You could put on the caps and apply air pressure. I think they recommend only 2 psi. Use a bicycle pump.

      @@wonkster1970 dude. It worked. I actually decided to do as you said before I saw this and it worked. Thank you for the reply man. I REALLY appreciate it. I'm very happy. I created a tool that stopped the dampener from spinning. I welded a 24mm nut to a 4ft aluminum pole for a beach umbrella.i put that in my vice and flipped the fork upside down and put it on my tool. Impact the bottom Allen bolt and it broke loose after nothing else would work. I hope this comment helps someone in the future. Much much love brother. Great video!

    The bottom bolt won't come out on one of my forks, I am holding it with and adjustable and even trid putting it back ok the bike to get more leverage. Any advise?

    Hi I have a parts list for this bike it shows a part number for a foam piece just under the dust seal called "holder Grease" did not see this piece when i pulled mine apart. the part is not available anywhere. is it nesseseary and what is it for? what can i use in place of. thank you Sir.

      I don't recall seeing a foam piece on mine. It might be a foam washer that controls how much oil gets up on the dust shield. I'm not sure. I haven't had any problems with mine leaking after I've replaced the seals.

    Question, do I need to pump in 4 psi of air in to the forks again?

    • @wonkster1970
      @wonkster1970  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. You don't need to put air in the forks.
