I've been doing mechanical work since I was a teenager. Some of my early projects include the Action Age 6 wheeler and the indestructable 90cc Yamaha trail bike. My first car was Plymouth TC3. I'd like to find one of them again some day. If you have one, let me know! My friends and I learned a lot about cars working on our own.
I'm hoping that this channel will inspire a lot of people to find the enjoyment and fulfillment of working on mechanical devices. Along with that comes frustration. You will learn a lot of patience also.
Feel free to message me on FB messenger.

Replacing Coolant Hoses on the 83 Shadow
In this video, I replace a couple on coolant hoses on the 83 shadow VT750C. One of the old lines developed a leak. I wasn't sure which one it was so I replaced both of them. There is one other hose that I didn't replace. It's located at the top of the engine. That one still looked good so I left it go. Hopefully it doesn't come back to haunt me later.
The entire cooling system took about a gallon of antifreeze. I forgot to show where the overflow is located also. Its on the right side of the bike. I'll make a short on that. That's about it. Thanks for watching. Please like, share, and subscribe. Stay safe and thanks for watching.

Repairing a Catalytic Converter
มุมมอง 4714 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video, I repair a leak that was in the left catalytic converter on the 2001 Ford F150 with the 5.4 Liter engine. Initially, I was going to replace both of converters. After receiving the cats for a rear wheel drive truck and finding out that the four wheel drive ones were almost $2K for the pair, I decided to fix the one with the leak. The repair seems pretty solid. I don't know if it w...

Hey great videos Wonkster....I wonder if I should be concerned and just start changing lines?
Thanks. If they are original and the bike is from the 80s, they should be replaced. I should have replaced mine a while ago. Two of them were coated with oil. I think that weakened them. I was not able to find replacement hoses online. I stopped by the auto parts store, though , and they were able to get me a close match.
@wonkster1970 oh GREAT INFO about how you got them replaced THANKS!
Wheres the loctite?
That's a good idea!
@wonkster1970 recommend green or possibly blue but blue is a bit stronger grip might be over kill. Remember they only need 1 drop if you ever want them to come out. Can't heat them like a regular thread on a engine due to the plastic and rubbers surrounding them.
@houndofhell93 Never tried green. I'll have to get some.
You're going into hard core bicycling ? Cleats are are menace to untrained knees heheheee
I installed the 9" shields on my batwing, at 6.0 tall the 9" shield comes up to just about chin level and pushes the air above my head.
That's great!
Can I control my Samsung TV with it?
I don't know if it will work with a Samsung TV.
Thanks! And congratulations on passing 2k.
Thank you for supporting the channel! Greatly appreciated!
Also check the choke cable inlet at the carb. Mine was full of tiny black particles.
Thanks!
I need this on my 1983 Shadow 750. Looks similar.
They are similar. I've done the fork seals on my 83 750 also.
You could go to the auto parts store and get a pressure tester(most places will lend them out for free) and test to see exactly where it’s leaking, that way you aren’t just chasing it down with parts.
Good idea. Thanks!
@@wonkster1970other option : Wipe it clean. Ride. Check again. And change those clamps wherever possible.
@farrider3339 Yes. I have a parts bike. Going to check it and see what clamps it has.
Good work. Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Best thing i ever did for myself and my family. Moved to the southwest. No more chipper vac ,trimmers, lawnmower equipment, and snow removal equipment. Have fun with all your work toys and weekends. We ride our toys on the weekends on endless trails on BLM land.
I like it 🤩
Thank you!
Is break cleaner not an extremely harsh chemical you should make sure you don’t digest even a bit of?
Use compressed air or run it under water to clean it. I left mine dry after cleaning it and haven't had any issues. Brake cleaner evaporates quickly.
Thanks for the video. The plug prevents the water or mud from getting inside and also you can adjust the parking brake. How do you know that your rotor needs replacement? I have a 2015 RAV4 LE going to change the brake pad but not sure if I should replace the rotors or not as there is no issue so far and it has 76K miles on it. Also If you provide the links of the torque wrench you used and the tubing for brake bleeding purposes that would be great. Thanks
Thanks for watching. I was informed that the rear rotors needed replaced when I took the RAV in for PA State Inspection. The rear rotors would need replaced if they are warped, damaged, or beyond the minimal thickness. My brake bleeder is mason jar that I put hose and some fittings on. I've got an vacuum pump that I connect to it. Here is a link to the one torque wrench that I use: www.harborfreight.com/38-in-drive-5-100-ft-lb-digital-angle-torque-wrench-64915.html The 1/2 torque wrench is from Mac Tools. I've had it for over 20 years.
@@wonkster1970 Thanks so much Brother, keep up the great work.
How did you remove the starting motor without removing cover, L. crancase ?
I think i was able to because the starter gear was broken. I was not able to get it back together without taking the side cover off. The clearances are too tight.
Excellent, thank you so much!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
This also works on the Asus Chromebox 3. Found one while cleaning out an abandoned rental property and took it home but couldn't get into it. Thanks for this awesome video!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Thank you for the super!
Worked great!
😄🤤YumYum
I like how you don’t over tighten the pulleys and blade nuts. Nice work!
Thanks!
Mine just says check connection after headlight on for 10 seconds and off
Sounds like either the battery is completely shot or you have a loose connection on the battery terminal
@@wonkster1970 Nope new battery. i will try on another car maybe its just broke
Will they fit the 2001 5.4 f250?
They don't list the 01 5.4 f250 on the website.
Doesn't look too bad yet, you got at least another 10K
The inner one was worse.
Bled my 1100 VT Shadow 1994 this afternoon. The exact same color, and I think I need to keep pumping all that debris out...but after a while the color changed. So not all is lost, hopefully.
Hopefully purging out all the old brake fluid fixed it. Thanks for watching! Stay safe!

is that bad?
Yes. Lantern flies are invasive here in PA. They destroy trees. www.pa.gov/en/agencies/pda/plants-land-water/spotted-lanternfly.html
Yep! Not only are they invasive, but damaging to trees as they suck sap which can cause fungal infections.
Thank you for the video. Is there a bowl drain on the bottom of the carbs.? Thanks in advance
You're welcome. Thanks for watching! Yes. There is a bowl drain on each of the carbs. It takes a long narrow blade flat screwdriver to loosen them.
@@wonkster1970 wow fast response. Thanks have a great day
@Bill-j2g Have a great day also.
Nice!
I also have a 1983 & was under the impression that only the 83 had a square headlight. After looking at a lot of searched 1983 500's, I see several with the square headlight & some with round. Weird!
That is weird.
Can you explain how you repaired it
I took the scale apart, de soldered the corroded connectors, soldered in the new connectors and reassembled it. The wires inside of the scale are pretty small and easily brake. I was going to make a video on the repair but it just didn't work out. Thank you for watching!
It's a shame they use cheaper plastic to make these assemblies. Some cars will never need to be replaced.
I went to a different video simply because of whatever that B side if the 80 bubble gum metal music. I have to imagine many others have also.
How can you tell if the spindle is worn out?
The bearings were making a lot of noise.
@@wonkster1970 Did you use the Toro original parts or did after market parts fit?
@bigjoe2458 i used aftermarket parts.
@@wonkster1970 I appreciate that friend.
@bigjoe2458 you're welcome.
I liked the part where you showed the process
Thanks for watching!
sorry that was an accidental post anyway new filter new oil water seems to be ok could have a block somewhere in the sys. but is that normal for this bike don't remember it doing that before? fixed a leak in the exhaust more power now but it seems to heat up hotter than before. any thoughts?
Might need the radiator flushed. I think there is a thermostat also. Maybe that's sticking.
hey there wonkster so you know I have a 500 also lately its been overheating to a degree when the bike is idling it will continue to rise in temp till it gets to maybe 3/4 of the way and will hold there as the fan comes on about there. this
did you have to take the rear wheel off to install the indicator?
Nope. The rear wheel does not need to come off.
I have a different type of faucet, a flexible one. Hot water is bigger than before and cold water became very thin and today only a wire like. Tomorrow it might dissapear for good. What could be the reason? 😮
There might be a screen on the cold side. Are yout other faucets old water okay?
@@wonkster1970 Yes. They're ok. My dad says it might be rock deposits.
Hi guys great ride, bit snow on the ground 🥶ur braver than me,I’ve got white 1984 vt500e I’ve had for over 24 years,,all ways puts a smile on my face,,only let me down 2 times both my fault, changed the pet cock for a Chinese copy oh big mistake 🙁,, rebuild the carburetors,,didn’t seat the main jet enough and vibrated out ,ah silly me🤪,, just loved ur taco 😀,,ride safe u guys,,😎uk
Thanks for watching. The 500 is a great bike! Need to get it out again. Stay safe in the UK. It's starting to get colder here in Pennsylvania, US.
do you have a video on your process of getting the brake fluid into the caliper?
I might. I'll check. Thanks for watching.
@@wonkster1970 thank you! just got an 85 shadow 700 a month ago, your videos are very helpful
@johnpetkovsky9542 Good to hear. Thanks for watching!
Good job man Gonna get a 14 tax same thing bed all rusted , I’m gonna buy a new bed
I debated getting a replacement bed. It would of saved me a lot of time.
Thanks!
Thanks for the super! I appreciate the support!
In the video you looked at the impeller and the chipper blade on the backside of the impeller. Assuming the impeller grinds up the leaves, and you straightened them out, did that help with the grinding of the leaves? that process? Is there any other maintenance needed on the impeller? Can it be sharpened? Did you have to sharpen the chipper blade? Thanks so much for doing this video!! Extremely helpful!!
Thanks for watching. I haven't had a chance yet to test it on any leaves yet. The chipper side works good. I'll be testing the vac this fall. Also, I will be looking into getting the chipper blade sharpened.
But that's the majority of all Fords get about 70 to 150 before they're f*****I work on Fords and more than anything
So far, this truck has served me well.
Brother you need to get rid of that 5.4 take it from a mechanic I have had to put in more 5.4 then you've probably seen vehicles in your entire lifetime
I've been lucky with this one so far. No major engine issues yet.
Beautiful. Should look into replacing mine.
Left side isn't too bad to replace. The right side has been more involved.
