    I came for the duck education and stayed for the duck yoga. Munchkin is always a treat, even when she is half asleep.

    I like how Munchkin poses as a cute lil flamingo most of the video! I hope it's not a foot injury :(

      Munchkin did have a foot injury a few days ago, but she normally sleeps on one foot so I’m pretty sure that’s all this is. When she’s walking in the yard she doesn’t seem to be favoring it

      The ichthammol (drawing salve)works great for drawing out infections and abcsses. I've also found the calendula works as well as a antibiotic cream. Both can be found in the first aid aisle of most people stores.

    GREAT video. I didn't know that pet antibiotics are not going to be OTC anymore!! That's really disappointing! We keep a supply of FishMox/AquaMox (amoxicillin) on hand for emergencies, and we have actually taken them too. For a long time now, antibiotics for fish and birds have been completely legal to buy OTC.
    And Vetericyn/Microsyn spray is absolutely a lifesaver! They also have an opthalmalic gel that works really well!

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can google a list of all of the ones that are being taken off the shelves. I don’t know if it will apply to the fish antibiotics, but at our tractor supply they have signs up with all of the livestock antibiotics that will no longer be available

      I also tend to buy the drawing rolls of paper for kids that they sell at IKEA since I’m nearby one and they’re like four dollars and that’s really really great cage liner since my pigeon cages were made from IKEA shelves they fit the inside absolutely perfectly. If you’re not somebody that subscribes to newspapers anymore, it’s a lot cheaper than puppy pads

      I’ve got a big bag of cornstarch that I’ve used for this for my pigeons over the year but I would recommend getting something a little more professional if that’s an option it just wasn’t available to me at the time and I’m usually working with rescues with major issues, so I tend to be watching them really closely all the time anyway

    thanks for this video! i’m not a duck owner, but a duck in my backyard is hurt really badly. her right foot is curled up and im not sure if its broken or sprained or anything and she’s missing a lot of feathers. im guessing a male must have done the damage because all the feathers on the back of her head is missing. what hurts me really badly is that she was sitting in another neighbors back yard and a male duck rushed towards her to do his deeds and i couldn’t even stop him since she was in another backyard and all she could do was sit there instead of run or fly away. sorry for making you read all of this!

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the duck in your backyard is a wild breed, try contacting a wildlife rehab in your state. They have the proper licensing to help wild ducks, and usually lots of experience with them as well

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should definitely have a first aid kit for your chickens as well. Most products I showed will work great for chickens, but you could also add things like Vetricyn (drying agent so not good for ducks but fine for chickens), corrid, and Tylan

    Curious question, could some of these work for other fowls (chickens, turkies, peafowl etc.)?

    • @thelostronin
      @thelostronin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely 👍

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, most products that work for ducks can also be used on other birds/fowl. Some products that are safe for chickens or other ground fowl are not safe for ducks because they´re waterfowl and their bodies process things differently. Drying sprays are an example of something that works well for chickens, but since ducks heal wounds mostly through hydration it's better to use something like bag balm on their wounds that will keep them hydrated.

    • @KaoruMzk
      @KaoruMzk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. In fact, you'll be more likely to use them on chickens than on ducks. Speaking from experience 😅

    I do rescue work with city pigeons and i use a lot of cotton makeup rounds, a type of blister bandage called compeed (that i will never go without personally) i also make a LOT of bird shoes so i use a lot of sports tape. Also calendula is a flower (kal-end-doo-la) that makes a nice tea but as a whole homeopathic stuff is kinda crap. You are much better off making it from scratch. The flowers grow easily, dry easily and are common in herbal tea. My vet in spain also told me thyme tea is nice for treating eye inflammation. I also keep some pain meds on hand since i tend to deal with a lot of string based constriction issues on feet.

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always feel so bad for the city pigeons😭 I will get some compeed- I never heard of that previously. Good to know about the calendula salve too, I kinda figured it wasn’t great as I’m not too big of a fan of homeopathic remedies myself

    • @FioreCiliegia
      @FioreCiliegia ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DunkinDucks I mean, it’s totally up for you too, but have you ever considered a rescue pigeon? they are very easy to take care of compared to ducks, and they are very very friendly. Consider looking into fostering for palomacy? Frankly, they could probably eat most of the same stuff that you feed the ducks I don’t know exactly what’s in your duck food, but pigeons are omnivores they’ll eat basically anything that’s got grain and stuff in it. They like a nice place to sit up high, and they keep to themselves

    • @FioreCiliegia
      @FioreCiliegia ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually fostered a pigeon, named ducky for a couple of days too XD he was recovering from something called PMV, which to my knowledge is mostly a pigeon illness. I don’t believe that other birds can get it, but it meant that he had a hard time keeping himself clean outside. A random passerby was able to pick him up because he couldn’t fly anymore, and they brought him to me before I sent him along to a long-term rehab facility. I have never seen a non-duck bird try to swim like a duck as much as that guy did xD if he even vaguely heard the sound of dripping water, he just started flipping out, like it was the best day of his life haha not sure if Leigh ended up hooking up, but he was also making flirtations to his travel companion meet on the way to the facility. She really looked kind of like a duck because she had some of the worst splay leg I’ve ever seen so she waddled but was otherwise healthy. XD Boy, any excuse to talk about my pigeons

      First I love your username🤣 Secondly, you could order ducklings from a hatchery, get them at a local farm store, if you have any local poultry shows or fairs you could try to find some there, or you could search Facebook groups for any local duck breeders. Duck rescues typically won’t have ducklings, but it’s worth a shot to ask
