    I can't tell you how helpful this is. I have a 6 mo old Pekin who has started acting like yours. I thought he was begging for peas, and if I pick him up and cuddle him he leaves me alone. But I had to laugh when you showed your hickey---- I got one this morning just like that. If he wouldn't bite QUITE so hard, it would be cute, but his little jaws are strong!

    Thank you for this demo. My drake Bailey started doing this to me suddenly when we moved he and the Mrs into the big coop with the chickens and took their small coop away. We did this for their safety. He seemed extremely pissed off about it and started getting aggressive with me the very next morning. He does to me exactly what yours is doing. I read an article as well and started pinning him down but found the lesson didn’t always take. Seeing you do it here has shown me what I’m doing wrong… not holding his head down! I will try this tomorrow!

      As long as it's held in that position and can't move until it fully submits that should be enough. This is could take several minutes before you can release it.

    He is already acting dominant with his constant quaking and coming right up next to you. 2:55 He is testing the waters and trying to keep that dominant position real hard here, but you all ready have been working with him so he is getting slower about it and more timid, testing the waters, so-to-speak, to see what he can get away with.

    I had a yr. old Peking who was acting aggressive like yours. I did a similar move to show him who the dominant one is, which worked. Lately he has turned his aggression on the younger females . We have 3 India runners, one who is a male (also 1yr.) & 2 females who are 6 mo.. It has come to the point that we will have to re-home him asap as he took out the rt. eye of one of the females. His aggression absolutely escalated & he now sits in an empty chicken coop until we can redo w the drake.

They had no idea of how fast they grow and how much they poop. Long story short. I am taking care of Juicebox. He does this to me off and on. I grip his bill(gently) and he stops for a while. I have the same problem. I feel so sorry for your drake, they can't help how they are. And I believe I've read that article too, it's one of the only ones that doesn't say just eat him. I'd hate to resort to rehoming (and let's face it, no one wants and aggressive muscovy, so it'd probably just be a death sentence). No way in hell am I eating my baby.

    • @nic.h

      Know this is a year late. But my understanding is you need to do it long enough that they completely stop resisting and literally just lay still. This maybe on the order of a couple of minutes, and to repeat it similarly every time they act aggressively, until they accept your dominance and stop acting aggressive.

    dominating any pet is bad, you should not do that. you should try getting a dominant rooster and have him where the duck is for like 2 weeks and it will be good. i have a trained female duck that protects me and when a young chicken or rooster is dominant, i release the duck and it fights the chicken and its ok then

    • @nic.h
      @nic.h 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe this is recommend because this emulates natural duck behaviour. It's doing it an a way that they can understand, as it's essentially exactly what they do to establish pecking order.

    To be honest you seem to be way too gentle, and you're even petting it. You won't hurt it if you are just a lot firmer and harsher about it. It's the only way to impress dominance. Even the bit where you hold and pull at the back of its head is like you're pet-scratching it.

    • @nic.h
      @nic.h 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need to use much force. The objective isn't to hurt it, but gently not allow it to move from that position until it stops trying.

    oh, I just butcher them if they're too aggressive, I don't want any aggressive genes in my flock. also thing this drake was doing was he was trying to mate with your legs, he treats legs like female cause this is how they inprint, drakes are very bad for females, on average they will force them to intercourse. that's why it's important to never have more drakes than hens.
