    A part of what makes this channel so special is the way you adapt to what works best for you, and that means thinking outside the box to create new ways of doing and building. Also, all your farm family benefits because they are never left out of the equation. 👍🐣🐕🐈‍⬛🐇🐔🐶🐈🐖🦆🐾❤️

    Chad, I love your creativity on the farm! You really think outside the box and that is what we all should be doing instead of relying what's already established. Good for you!!

      The fact that you’re watching and commenting regularly is enough, cause it tells TH-cam people are interested and it helps my channel grow. Everyone has lives to live and you gotta work. I appreciate you watching whenever you can. 😊♥️

    My 4 ducklings will be arriving next week. My daughter is raising ducklings (they have grown so much in just 5 weeks!) and she is sharing the journey with me, then it occurred to me that I have an acre of property in a part of the country that rarely freezes. But we do have a lot of predators , so I am researching how to raise them and then keep them safe when they move outside. Really appreciate your videos, I’ve learned so much. Thank you, have subscribed.

    Great channel! I have 5 Golden 300 ducks and I have them in a very similar run and duck house set up. To keep the mess down, I have their drinking water in a large storage bin with holes cut in the side (so they can't get inside but can put their whole head and neck in) and I laid plastic grass throughout the run- it's super easy to spray down when I clean. Of course, 5 ducks is a big difference, but I can't free-range them due to pretty rampant coyote predation, so they're in there all the time. They are, indeed, so cute and comical!

    Great video. We have 13 African Guardian Geese , 9 Kacki Campbell ducks and 2 Muskovy ducks all living in decent harmony . I have just move them on some new grass, I love them, we plan on hatching some more. You provide a lot of good tips.

      I’m sure they’re enjoying that new grass eh. Nice mix of birds. Muscovies are supposed to be good mothers too and very quiet is that true?

    I enjoyed this. We used to have ducks, years ago when our children were younger. Unfortunately, we also had coyotes… we’ve talked about adding ducks out here, but we have a small gator who has taken up residence in one of our ponds - and we’ve seen a couple of others over the few years since we bought the place. We had a wild duck nesting on a small island in the back pond, but that didn’t last, sadly. Ducks are so entertaining though, and like chickens, are great pest control. 🙂

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow good thing we don’t have gators up here. I don’t think a goose would be any match for a gator either. You’d need an awful lot of fencing just to have a few ducks. It can be done though or just fence in an area for ducks or other animals. Gators can get chickens too right? Or maybe the really just stay close to water. Thnx for the comment 😊🐣🐊

    • @jodilea144
      @jodilea144 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HiddenSpringFarm they can, but yes, “our” gator tends to stay on or right around the pond(s). He likes to have the occasional marshmallow or meat treat, but he stays to himself, mostly. We just recently spoke to a local gator farm about possibly taking him in. It’s been interesting watching him, and it’s pretty cool to get to show family and friends how he comes when we call him (Sidney 🙂) up for a treat, but we have a young granddaughter who adores playing outside, fishing with her Papaw, and going for walks with us in our woods. The gator isn’t as small as he was when we first noticed him 3 years ago, and we are concerned that he may become a problem as he continues to grow.

    When I was a child manydecades ago my grandparents gave my sister and myself a pair of ducklings and a pair of dyed chicks. One chick died before day one went bye because my little sister snuck out and put the chick in with the ducks to make friends. The second chick died probably from toxins in the dye. The ducks went home with us to S Texas where we backed on a natural canal called a resaca. The ducks grew up quite wild and quite large. One day some boys from us sent their retriever after the ducks who swam around the dog until it began to drown. My father had to swim out to save the dog and explain why it was a bad idea to the boys.

    This is my first year having ducks. I have a lot of land and have been scared to let them out of the run. Can a goose live in the same coop as ducks? That sounds like a good way to put my mind at ease about the hawks

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      A goose could definitely live with ducks. I separated ours cause one goose got a taste of duck eggs and was eating all the eggs 😆 especially if you have young ducks and a young gosling they will think they’re all family. I was scared too but I took the leap and it’s so much easier to have them free range.

    How do you keep rats away

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The rats have been eradicated by the cats. We have 8 cats called the Claw Crew that handles our rodent issues. We still have mice and moles come and go but they don’t last long cause the cats do a great job.

    Can you house a goose with a small flock of ducks

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      sure can, especially if they grow up together. I raised these 4 geese with the ducks in the duck house. I had a situation where the geese somehow learned to eat the duck eggs so I separated them, but I don't believe all geese will eat eggs.

    Where do you purchase your water bins from? The ones similar to a rubber tire. Im located in Innisfil so anywhere local would be helpful! Thank you :)

      I've gotten them either from Princess Auto in Barrie or PeaveyMart in Orillia. I also use cement mixing pans from Home Depot, they are a bit bigger and work great.

      @HiddenSpringFarm thank you so much! I'm new to this whole duck thing and was not really expecting to ever have a duck... but here we are! We had a little duckling hatched in my lifeskills class with a twisted leg. Now I'm bonded with her and need to figure out how to raise her right!

    • @HiddenSpringFarm

      @@kattm2319 what feed are u using? If chick starter you need to add niacin. Fowl feed can be hard to find. I always add brewers yeast to the feed. Niacin is needed for the good development of their legs. I have lots of decent duck raising videos if you need more info. Just make sure it has heat, food and water at all times. Don’t let ducklings swim either cause they can get a chill. Wait till they get some feathers or can dry out in the sun. Best of luck 😉

    I've never eaten a duck egg. Are they similar to a chicken egg in taste?

    • @HiddenSpringFarm

      All eggs have sone similarities, but duck eggs have a more earthy flavour. Bigger eggs, more nutrients and makes everything you bake better. I still like the taste of chicken eggs though.
