we have also had the argument at our barn about straw versus hay. I like hay for the softness but straw really is a better insulator. they both seem to break down about the same way. thanks for addressing this because I think a lot of people may not realize there's a difference also I never heard of wet feather so great to learn!
What also helps ducks to withstand those really frosty January clear-sky nights is a good supper. Carbo-Hydrates are king on those evenings and my ducks go bananas for *cracked corn*! Otherwise a rather useless food - except you want to fatten up your ducks quickly - those extra carbs will be burned over night and generate a lot of body heat. A full duck is a warm duck.
New owner of two calls and 2 mystery byms and I just wanna thank you so much for these videos. I've been scratching my head for what the heck to do over the winter with their water and this video saved me some more sleepless nights. Thank you so so much.
Great ideas. Learned a lot from you today. Three ducks across the road from me with a large pond. I've been very worried about them in severe cold weather. It's been -4 for the last two days.
New duck mom. Kinda got thrown into this by a rescued mallard duckling. Now I have a Welsh harliquin and a swedish black. I live in Oregon and we have already dropped below freezing and I'm scared to put them outside all night
I have 2 questions about mallards in winter (I'm from Minnesota). What can I feed them in winter to help them fatten up other than whole kernel corn?? Also what can I do to give them a place away from the wind?? They are wild ducks, I have a creek in my back yard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your beautiful duckies with us. Keep up the great work. 😁
My mallards got fat from chicken food/feed, the kind made for raising + plumping up poultry . Just don't feed them that if they are still young ducklings in development ! And I would put a tarp over their cage for the wind. unscented candles in sturdy lanterns in there will heat up the whole coop as wel
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your schedule to give advice to people that are new to the duck raising game I care for 14 dogs six cats one tortoise two ducks Aphrodite's and plucky my beautiful little white duckies one of them is disabled he has no feathers on his chest and his wings are weird but I love him just the same thank you very much what is this video keep them coming I need more device to keep my duckies good happy and healthy
I have chickens & I never knew straw was better at insulating heat!! I had pine shavings in their coop last winter, this winter I should totally try straw.
Do you have to have a cage for your duck or can your duck just live in the creek and not fly off? I’m curious cause I am feeding ducks, so I kind of need to do everything possible before I get ducks 😅❤❤
Honestly, I just let them sleep inside the house, they make a mess, but I don’t want them getting cold in the night, Then again, I only have two ducks.
I had to nurse a duck this morning, she couldn't open her beak and something happened to her eye. We been having terrible ice and snow in Alabama with temps in single digits. Her beak was frozen shut. I guess her eye froze too but now she can't see. It's bulging out. The wind has been brutal
I'm hoping to get 2 or 3 ducklings soon and I am wondering what food is best for them. I'm ofc going to try ice water since Munchkin loves that. Thx its ok if u don't respond I just want to know :) 🙂
Your ducks are really gorgeous and I presently using hit lamps for my chickens and ducks but I never really use hit water bowl and also I want to hatching my ducks eggs naturally but you told me they are not really good mother so I decided to using broody chickens and pigeons and turkey as well but I have no idea how I swapped their eggs with ducks eggs please gave me good advice.
Our duck pen is now snow packed. Do I need to be sure that the ducks can get off of the snow when they are out during the day? Or do they have the ability to keep their feet warm by sitting on them?
4 mallards were hatched on the roof of the 3 story building I work at. They are 100 days old and mom is gone. I’ve been feeding the and giving fresh water every 2nd day. Is it possible to bring them to the pond at my home ? Will they survive?
...my ducks moved into the dog kennels with my beagles i'm gonn assume thats ok since the kennel is set up with straw...my ducks are bigger than the dogs though 😂 I'll try and post a video of this insanity
I have a question so is it ok if you have ur ducks outside and let them play in the day and when it’s night time you let them sleep inside the house ??
Predator proof their enclosure. I use 1/4” hardware cloth on all sides plus it’s buried underneath the pen and covering the roof. Have to make sure you get even the smallest of gaps so that mice, rats, and snakes can’t get inside
I have a question ⁉️ I have two runner ducks that live outside in my creek and I don't think they are going to migrate. We feed them they come up to my home but we can't touch them. Any advice
Correct, domestic ducks can’t migrate. Most runner ducks can’t really fly. Are these your pets? If they are then they will need a coop for the winter. You can work on gaining their trust by feeding them out of your hand. Slowly toss food to them and bring it closer to you until they eat from your hand and you can catch them. And if they aren’t your pets you can call a farm or waterfowl rescue to take them in
They aren't our pets but they have been around us for a year now and I would be so sad to see them go 😕 I'd do whatever I could to take care of them they are wild but I'd love to try and take care of them both
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION for ANYONE WHO CARES FOR DUCKS! And a big plus: we get to watch Munchkin be a charming marshmallow floof for 11+ minutes! 🥰

I love how during the whole video Munchkin is like "Hey! She's talking about me! Also... am I getting paid in ice water after? 🤔"😌
I have an exam about neurons and motor proteins but hey LOOK DUCK LADY IS TALKING ABOUT DUCKS IN WINTER YASSSSS
Thank you! My grandparents bought 3 ducks, and I'm helping them prep for winter here in Maine.
we have also had the argument at our barn about straw versus hay. I like hay for the softness but straw really is a better insulator. they both seem to break down about the same way. thanks for addressing this because I think a lot of people may not realize there's a difference
also I never heard of wet feather so great to learn!
My city slicker ass didn't know there was a difference between straw and hay until today, lol
Good video 👍
Munchkin, you quacking marshmallow 😍

Honestly, I just let them sleep inside the house, they make a mess, but I don’t want them getting cold in the night, Then again, I only have two ducks.
My duck would eat the pingpong ball. He swallows large walnuts whole, he runs away so I can't stop him

Do you live in Canada or the u.s just wondering your ducks are really cute.
Why are ducks so cute?
wind is essentially opening- SPLOOOSH
I'm hoping to get 2 or 3 ducklings soon and I am wondering what food is best for them. I'm ofc going to try ice water since Munchkin loves that.
Thx its ok if u don't respond I just want to know :) 🙂
It's better to do research on your own. I mean you have the internet at your hand. Good luck on raising your ducklings!

Would a crockpot work for those cold winter days ?
Duccccccc❤️❤️

We feed ours lots of corn to keep them fat
I would love to know more about the breed of the ducks, we had chickens but I'm now ready to get ducks, love your black and green duck I want some
How often should I clean my coop in the winter
...my ducks moved into the dog kennels with my beagles i'm gonn assume thats ok since the kennel is set up with straw...my ducks are bigger than the dogs though 😂 I'll try and post a video of this insanity
I want to learn about that what is poisonous for ducks bc in the future I want a duck so badly
Obligatory comment to support channel but can't be bothered to ask a question comment
I have a question so is it ok if you have ur ducks outside and let them play in the day and when it’s night time you let them sleep inside the house ??
Nice
Ducks feet don't ever get cold. Look it up.
What are the breeds of your ducks? btw I love your channel.
There call ducks
They’re all call ducks except for Raven! Raven is an east indie
@@DunkinDucks that's cool! My favorite duck that I've seen is either suger or Dunkin. I also have some ducks but there Muscovy.
Just starting out and I'm scared of wildlife that wants to eat them. How do I keep them safe.

When my ducks were ducklings their heat lamp exploded it was so scary and from that day I don’t use them
