    I can see why people prefer Salazar over even Jack in this movie. I think he is the best written character.
    If he was in a better written movie he could have been a villain as great as the likes of Barbossa and Davy Jones. He has a unique motivation amongst the villains, he isn't a pirate, he isn't an scumbag government official looking for people to exploit, he's a fanatic crime fighter that takes immense pleasure and pride in doing his job and serving his country, he and his crew always stayed faithful to their mission, in fact his merciless ways, as sadistic and evil as they may seem, made the sea a safer place to sail.
    His first motivation of his father and grandfather being killed by pirates were not only a great catalyst but also very accurate, as the main victims of pirates were the Portuguese and Spanish navys.
    Honestly, such a waste of potential!

    • @lorantpapp07
      @lorantpapp07 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A small correction: his father made a deal of some kind with pirates(even though HIS father was killed by pirates). Hearing about this, salazar killed his own father and enlisted to become a pirate hunter

    • @quandaviousgooch4726
      @quandaviousgooch4726 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@lorantpapp07It wasn't only hearing about this, but there was a horrible rule at the time where the wife must pay for the actions of her husband as well. His mother got dragged off to a warehouse, died there and then he greeted his father returning from prison by ending him. He then later enlisted to become an admiral himself.

      So much background writings were there. All the more frustrating because Salazar had SO MUCH potential to be More amazing than he already is, and he's only got like a total of 15mins maximum screentime total. Imagine if they only treated the character better. A lot of us already love him for good reasons. And yes, the movie, personally for me, was ultimately saved by Salazar.

    • @Bonjourpeter23
      @Bonjourpeter23 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      He is a Beckett rip off. Beckett also was a military guy with an extremist goal of killing all the pirates, and who makes a deal with a pirate captain to capture Jack Sparrow with who he has a personal relationship in the past. It’s the same character as Cutler Beckett.

    I love how utterly miserable Salazar looks when he's trapped in The Devil's Triangle. This film was mediocre at best and Bardem got some lame dialogue, but he really sold the character slowly going out of his mind from boredom and despair in those moments. I was totally on his side from then on! By the end I was cheering for Salazar to skewer Imposter Jack Sparrow with Poseidon's Tridant!

    Lots of plot holes occurred in this movie and here are the main elements to point out:
    👉🏻 Jack Sparrow is completely different from the previous four films. He used to be the one of the smartest and strategic pirates despite his charming and drunk personality. He outsmarted Barbossa and Lord Beckett, bravely facing the Kraken, and duel Davy Jones in a maelstrom battle. But here, he is completely a shadow of his former self. Drunk and broke, as well as cowardly running away from Salazar.
    👉🏻 The compass itself is the biggest plot hole. Back in Dead Man’s Chest, Tia Dalma/Calypso mentioned that Jack bartered it from her. But here in Dead Men Tell No Tales, it was given to Jack by his former captain during Salazar’s battle.
    👉🏻 If I were to connect the dots on this compass plot hole, I think Calypso must have bestowed some supernatural powers on this compass, as she is the goddess of the sea and a voodoo priestess. Jack must have obtained it when he was a young teenager and gave it to his former captain, who could have learn about how the compass works and its ability.
    👉🏻 Another plot hole occurred on Jack’s journey to piracy with the Wicked Wench (aka Black Pearl). Firstly, the Wicked Wench was once under Beckett’s Royal Navy with Jack being the privateer. When Jack used it to free slaves from Beckett’s rule, Beckett burned it to the depths and Jack made a deal with Davy Jones to revive back the Wicked Wench and rechristened it as the Black Pearl. In the midst of this conflict, when does the battle with Salazar prior to his death at the Devil’s Triangle occurred? Is it during Jack’s attempt to free slaves from Beckett’s command? If yes, my guess is that Jack (still a young teenager as a privateer) must have done it several times without Beckett knowing it, and over the years, most of these slaves turned to piracy (add up with the compass and Jack’s former captain), and it was until Salazar started his pirate hunting campaign. After Salazar’s defeat, Beckett must have known it sooner or later, resulting him to destroy the Wicked Wench.
    👉🏻 Speaking of Salazar, how does he have any knowledge of the compass ability? Prior to his first defeat, he was only obsessed on capturing Jack Sparrow as he chased him towards the Devil’s Triangle. Then, during his meeting with Henry Turner, he mentioned that the compass is the key of releasing him. My guess; he must have known it after being resurrected by the Triangle and that’s when he started to piece together the puzzle by leaving one man to tell the tale on every ship that has entered the Triangle.

      If you remember correctly, Jack had also taken a coin from the safe he stole but the first thing he prefers to take out of his pockets, this and other details just makes me believe that the writers didn't care about the plot they wrote much less the directors

    • @dabalma
      @dabalma 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I think it was "Jack's crew" and not "just Jack" that got the compass from Calypso. I mean, Jack's captain (the one who dies fighting Salazar) and Jack (probably his first mate) got it from Tia Dalma. Then the captain dies and gives Jack the compass.
      BOOM plot hole explained
      and the betrayal thing isn't even a plot hole. Jack didn't betrayed the compass when he gave it to Will, Elizabeth and Gibbs cuz he knew the compass would've come back to him. Instead, in the 5th movie, he definitely betrays it just to get a fckn bottle. so it's not a plot hole
      I agree on the fact that this movie was written poorly, but it's not on the level of star wars sequels or Jurassic World Dominion. I totally consider Dead Men Tell No Tales canon with the other four movies just because it doesn't ruin the rest of the saga and I don't feel the need to throw something to the screen while watching it, unlike Dominion and Episode 9. I think this movie is the perfect ending to the franchise, more than At World's End (unpopolar opinion) but, yes, they definitely could've done it better
      edit: At World's End is better but the ending of this movie is PERFECTION (Jack gets the Black Pearl back, Will and Elizabeth are finally together again, Barbossa redeemed himself, the true Captain Jack Sparrow is back and is no more drunk and depressed, all the curses are broken, the power of the sea is free and Henry and Carina seem to be happy together)
      But what I really mean when saying "perfection" is Jack heading towards the horizon at sunset with the Pearl, Gibbs and his crew (and Jack the monkey on his shoulder)
      "I have a rendezvous beyond my beloved horizon"
      edit 2: according to me, the post credit scene is just a dream of Will

      Another thing that is bs is that the trident of poseiden always had the power to "break every curse at sea" but Barbosa, Davy Jones and numerous others never tried pursuing it themselves. And to not pursue it is one thing, but to not even so much as mention it is something else entirely.

    Jack, the legendary pirate lord who outplayed Barbossa, fought against Jones, faced the Kraken head on, escaped death, freed the Caribbean from the ETC, and more, all reduced to a bumbling buffoon. Not only does the writing not make any sense, the charm that once radiated from Jack's character is no longer there. Honestly I wonder why didn't Salazar attempt to contact the spanish armada. I get he could consider himself powerful enough to go and clean the seas by himself, but we see he is still loyal to Spain, he assaults english ships and also when he started killing Barbossa's crew for the second time, he sentenced them "in the name of the king". And the spanish in this universe seem to be more competent than the english, as seen in "On stranger tides". Salazar had potential to be a bigger antagonist but remained as a one-time villain.
