But yeah, that's basically the second campaign from Critical Role. Vox Machina should be 3-4 seasons, and Mighty Nein's first season seems like it's going to start around the time that the third VM season does.

Fun fact: Ancient Dragons have a special sense called Truesight, which allows them to see in magical darkness, see through illusion magic, and see the true form of a shapeshifter. Brimscythe, the dragon from season 1, was between the Young and Adult stages of dragon maturity so he hadn't developed Truesight yet.
Hate to be the guy, but um, actually: ancient dragons don't generally have Truesight. At least not RAW. Either this was a homebrew addition of it onto Vorugal, or that effect was meant to represent their insanely high perception modifiers (+13 for ancient white dragons). Many illusion spells let you do a perception check to see through them, and dragons get a special action called Detect that lets them roll perception as an action; so with that high a modifier, the DM would have to roll *real fucking low* for it not to see through the illusion.
@@IceMetalPunk Damn, you're right I got them confused with Greatwyrms! Tbf, the Chroma Conclave are heavily home-brewed to have more HP and other buffs so its entirely likely Matt gave them Truesight.
@@dragonicdoom3772 in the campaign yeah they don’t have truesight it does genuinely look like the show is giving them that to also show like hey these are not just bigger versions on Brimsythe, they’re smarter, stronger and far more powerful.
Not thruesight but they do have 60ft blindsight
Vorugal, like all White Dragons, has Blindsight, which allows them to hunt in total darkness or a blinding snowstorm, and the oldest Dragons (as laid out in the Treasury of Dragons sourcebook) develop Dragonsight, which is a form of interdimensional awareness they can use to communicate with alternate versions of themselves.

Worldwide, not just in Emon though
Those are puny numbers. For a city the size of Emon, there should be at least a hundred thousand people that died there alone among the civilians, maybe ten thousand for the militia of Emon. Worldwide, at least a million.

Second season was funded at the same time as the first, so they were already working on it when they first started everything. And then the first season went crazy and now there's also a third season AND a spin off for the next DnD campaign with The Mighty Nein. So the animation studio has just been going HAM and has plenty of work ahead of them.

@dan_mnght You would be incorrect. As Percy notes in the episode, this plan has long been in motion. No spoilers, but the Brimscythe incident was at most a minor setback. This was always the plan.
For reference, imagine Emon, the city attacked by the dragons, is Los Angeles; then Whitestone, the city they fled to, would be Maine. So about as far away as they could be while still being on the same continent

Not sure that scale lines up, I think someone crunched the numbers and Tal'dorei was barely as big as Texas. Still a far distance though.
@@CrownofMischief you're right, scale is way off, but relative position, those are where i usually drop them. It's something like 600-700 miles from emon to whitestone, but their relative positions are about LA to Maine scaled down by like 1/5th
@@CrownofMischief The mental perception of distance is pretty accurate though. Since they don't have planes and cars, and magic is a relatively rare ability among mortals. I'd picture Emon closer to San Jose or San Francisco. That's partially from the map of Tal'Dorei and partially because I don't remember Matt ever describing Emon as being really hot in the summer.

The Chroma Conclave are the most destructive and ruthless dragons I’ve seen in almost a decade. Thordak alone is like a nightmare fusion of Smaug and King Ghidorah!
And the true nightmare of that fusion is that he’s smarter than both put together.

Apparently, Matt Mercer (the DM of the group) is a fangirl of Lance from his time on The Wire and was ecstatic he agreed to voice Thordak.
They raised so much money on there kickstarter they were guaranteed fans for 2 seasons. So they were working on both season 1 and 2. Then amazon agreed to put it on there platform and because it was such a hit they greenlight season 3 and recently anounced They are doing Their Campaign 2 show The Mighty Nein, A different group of adventurers and there story which happens 20 Years after Vox Machina.
@@Squeekysquid each Campaign has it merits, I prefer Campaign 2 more cuss it starts from the very begining of the group coming together and while it doesnt reach all the way to level 20 it tells a complete enough adventure with potential to tell more. Campaign 1 feels like a classic dnd tale that reaches all the way to highest level of the game which most games never accomplish.
@@jaredreyes5056 I think 2s best because by then, they had time to really get into the flow, and the characters and intercharacter relationships reflect that as more polished and less stereotypical.
Season 3 is already greenlit and saw is the mighty nine
@Juan Driver those are 2 separate things. Vox Machina is getting a 3rd season, and a Mighty Nein animated show is in the works.

As cool as it looks, I still prefer the design of the dragons from the 3.5e monster manual. There is just something more primal and frightening about those dragons. They look like a more natural creature that could possibly exist. But they still exude a sense of power and superiority.
I was nervous they weren’t gonna watch. I’m so excited to see y’all react to this! It just gets more and more wild every episode

I remember watching this happen live. There was some real panic on the players’ faces as a whole fantasy world got totalled.
God I remember watching that episode. Shit definitely got real during that moment.
I think a Percy moment got me hooked on the campaign, but this moment got me hooked on Crtitical Role as a whole. Watching Matt have absolutely no mercy and craft a story out of an encounter that could've ENDED the story then and there? It was powerful to say the least

It was such a mixture of awe and terror. Like... Matt. That's was brutally amazing

The ACTUAL descriptions Matt Mercer gave the designers of the dragons for the show.
Red: Lion, Regal, King
Green: Separantine, Slithering, Deceving Creature
White: Bulldog, Beast, Hunter,
Black: Florida Dragon, Shitty Weasel Dragon.

The Dragon used Truesight to see through the illusion. It's something all Ancient Dragons can do and it allows them to see through all forms of magic basically.
Also also, the blue one from last season was just an adult dragon. These guys are Ancients, with the red one technically classifying as a Great Wyrm, so he's the true boss bitch around here
Now this is how you show how terrifying Dragons can be. Like most shows hype up Dragons as if they were extremely dangerous and almost always the dragons gets destroyed so easily. This show is a good reminder that true dragons are legit demons.

The DM has said in an interview that Emon had about 100k people when the dragons rolled up, and about 70-80,000 were killed by the dragons in the initial assault. Epic.
No, the population of Emon was about 365k at the time. 75-80k then died when the dragons attacked, leaving the remaining 70-80% of the remaining population too terrified to even oppose Thordak and the rest of the dragons. In the campaign, Thordak's occupation was even further supplemented by an army of lizardfolk.

It's awesome to see an epic animated fantasy series that isn't just another isekai anime.

The Chroma Conclave attack on Emon when they played it on the original Critical Role show ended hilariously. All the players looked at Matt like "What the actual FUCK dude?!" and he just smiled like a little kid and said "I just destroyed something I created."

can't believe we went from janky horse animation in season 1 to D&D dragons on steroids.
Brimsythe was an adult dragon while these dragons are Ancient as Keyleth says. Dragons become bigger and more powerful the older they are.
As for how the white dragon saw through Scanlan's illusion, all dragons have blind sight. Basically, his eyes told him something was there but his 'sixth sense' if you will, told him otherwise.
Brimscythe had it too, but the illusion was likely just too far away for him to be able to tell something was off.

True but blindsight does not protect from illusions. It just means they can sense you without using their sight. But if the dragon didn't have a reason to doubt what it sees probably just assumes what it sees is real.

@@Ragdefender Reasonable argument. But counterargument: The way I see it, blindsight absolutely works against illusions. An illusion isn't tangibly taking up the space it appears to be. Blindsight effectively tells the dragon nothing is actually there. Hence the illusion not working if it's in range.
Edit: To not sound like an ass, I will contend that my logic only applies to purely visual illusions. The stronger ones would still have some effect.

1:06 Season 1 was funded through Kickstarter before the pandemic, so when it came out to Amazon they were already working on a greenlit Season 2. Plus, Season 3 was already confirmed and a new series for the sequel campaign.

Back in Episode 2 of season 1 there was a carpet on Kriegs floor with 5 different color dragons on the floor. Kriegs was the blue and the other four came when he went missing and he told them "they" used ruled rule the world. The red white green and black dragons were foreshadowed long ago

dragons in dnd get more powerful and get more magical as they age, brimsythe was a young adult, these other 4 are ancients and are WAAAAAAAAY more powerful than brimsythe, the thing the ice dragon did with its eyes is an ability called truesight (lets u see thru illusions and see invisible ppl) an ability brimsythe did not have which is why he was fooled by Scanlan's illusion in s1e2

That ability that Vorugal the white dragon has is called Truesight. It does what is says on the can.

Brimscythe was an adult blue dragon, which is strong. But these guys are ancient chromatic dragons. Raishan, the Diseased Deceiver, Umbrasyl, the Hope Devourer, Vorugal, the Frigid Doom, and Thordack, the Cinder King.
For studio on the title card you could put Titmouse since they animating the whole show, but if it's for the publisher then Amazon of course.

So I believe that Matt Mercer mentioned that about 75k-85k died in the attack of the chroma conclave on Emon. Emon has a population of somewhere like 365k-400k or there about. A lot died, but there are plenty of people to rule over

I’ve seen a lot of people ask why the dragons demand people’s servitude but they wipe out the city anyway. You gotta realize they don’t need the whole city to survive, they don’t even need half the city to survive. Literally all they need is a tiny handful of survivors who are so terrified of them that they’ll pick through the wreckage and bring them every scrap of treasure.

Little do we know, Uriel actually survived Raishan's poison attack, though his eyes were blinded by the gas. Ridden with shame that the nation he had failed was now ravaged by dragons, he fled Tal'dorei to Wildemount, and took up a clerics mantle, growing out his hair to disguise himself. Hushing anyone who tried to enquire about his past, he took it as his moniker. He would patrol the regions near Alfield, checking to keep the people safe, until years later, he happens upon a curious group in a gnoll infested mine...
