So true..one day we won’t have the privilege of watching these two sharing their car stories and anecdotes while learning about the history of these vehicles .
I had a beautiful 2001 Jaguar XJ VDP that made the world melt away every time I got behind the wheel. I would drive my friend to his chemo appointments and one time after a rough session while we were driving home he was very quiet when he simply whispered "I love this car, I feel like a king". Watching some of these high end reviews remind me of that. I miss that car. I miss my friend.
As time presses on, it impresses upon me more and more that we really need to appreciate every production featuring Jay and Donald like this one - and encourage those in charge of producing such content to do as much as possible with these wonderful gentlemen. I certainly encourage it! - Ed on the Ridge
That green Spectre is crazy beautiful. I'm surprised our Jay didn't use his own full black Spectre. These two friends have so much knowledge, passion, history, OF and WITH, automobiles. I really enjoy these two good friends just shooting the breeze, talking about CARS. We love ya Jay. Edit: Do you guys know that Jay has made plans for his extraordinary collection to become available in a museum for all of us after he moves on to the great garage in the sky? That's the kind of car guy Jay is. He's a national treasure.
This green Spectre is an Audrain Collections car and lives on the East Coast where we shot this video. Jay doesn't have any of his cars here in Newport. Thanks for watching!
I thought Jay’s Spectre was black, glad we got that sorted out, having said that, I love this color, this is rich!!! And, Donald’s face at the very end of this video was priceless…lucky man! And to have a friend like Jay, priceless!
The story goes that way back when a Rolls Royce engineer said to Mr. Royce - "The only thing you can hear is the ticking of the clock." Royce said, "What's wrong with the clock?"
I’ve heard that when Rolls-Royce came out with the “clock” ad, Land Rover came out with there own ad saying “At 60 miles per hour all you can hear is the roar of the engine!” 😂
That was great fun. I was at a car display where a late 1930’s Rolls-Royce had to be moved. The owner/driver stepped out of the car briefly, but did leave the engine running. I leaned in close to the grill and listened for the engine. I think I heard the engine running, but I wasn’t sure. Amazing!
I used to drive a 78 continental Mk4 that was like this and it made me understand why old people drove so slowly. I've never realized it but as a 24 year old I was always 5 under the speed limit
You have to remember that prior to there 1904 meeting at the Midland Hotel in Manchester , Henry Royce was already making high quality motors, dynamos and over head cranes in his premises in Hulme Manchester. So electric power is part of Rolls Royce dna! As an aside Ford built the first Model T in the UK just a couple of miles away at Trafford Park.
Last time I drove a new Rolls Royce was about 1987, parking cars at a celebrity charity lunch. I was only 2 blocks so can't say much about it except it seems like I was in a Jed Clampett's mansion on wheels.
Jay: “I don’t quite get the Cullinan.” Donald: “(Sigh)” 🤣 This is a lovely car. Electric is the obvious choice for a car that is about quiet luxury and RR have absolutely nailed it. Wish I could afford one! 😂
Compared to the Rolls of the pre-war era, I think the biggest leap is the service once per 3 years.. No pun intended :] I think Jay should do his voice over in this car, sound quality is insane.. And they are driving about, lol :]
I can’t remember what music industry individual it was I heard this say, maybe a rocker, but he said that the best car for anyone who produces music is a Rolls Royce because of quiet they are and how great the sound is from the speakers. An electric Rolls with an audiophiles wet dream of a sound system seems like a logical paring to me.
I thought the Camargue was ugly until ..........Sorry Jay , the present line up knock the Camargue into a cocked hat however well appointed and quiet it is . I still rate the series 1 Jaguar XJ6 as the supreme o the supreme !
I remember, way back when, in 1965 or 66, Ford advertised their LTD as being quieter and with a smoother ride than a Rolls-Royce. From actually working on that vintage of Rolls-Royce, Silver Shadow, Silver Shadow II, Silver Wraith, Spirit and Spur, Ford was correct. Driving those cars, I compared them to a firm riding Cadillac. Newer cars can be very quiet because of sound deadening insulation. Modern suspension control can provide both a superior luxurious ride and handling also.
I was straining my eyes to see if it had the front fender to door cut line behind the base of the A pillar but I couldn’t see (it).I saw that on a semi recent car review show and I thought it wasn’t a good look.
At 12:12 of the video, Jay says that "Rolls Royce is a small company..." Seems to me that BMW bought the rights of the R-R name and built a brand new factory for its new designs and production. Not exactly a "small company." Like me, Jay is really showing his age.
RR Spectre! Forget that it’s a Rolls-Royce! Pretend it’s a brand new automobile manufacturer with a strange unpronounceable name. Even if it were a Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Tesla, Lucid, BMW, Mercedes-Benz or any other well established car manufacturer! This is just a Beautiful Automobile! End of story!
I didn't like the look of the specter when I saw the first photos. But seeing it again has made me change my mind. Does Rolls know they named it for a James Bond villain?
The spectacular introduction of, and popular acclaim for, the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado touched off a personal luxury car craze that lasted through the 1970's. But the reaction of the British public to the '67 Eldorado was nothing short of amazing - an American luxury car taking the United Kingdom by storm! This admiration for a Cadillac really struck a nerve at Rolls-Royce, the development of the Camargue was their response to the "Personal Luxury Mania" of the 1970's. The poor reaction to the Camargue has been a thorn in the side of RR ever since, and with the Spectre comes a chance for redemption, at long last.
@@BubbaSmurft You are so right! The 1963 Riviera courted acclaim from around the world. At age 6, I was too young to catch all the buzz at the Riv's introduction. By 1967, I was in awe of the overwhelming reception the FWD Eldorado received. News stands around my city had photos of the Eldorado on the front page. British tabloids shared "man on the street" reactions. This was a Cadillac, it made the Toronado seem small. Nothing this size had the Eldo's sporting style. Europeans were fascinated by a huge car that looked sleek and well proportioned. Rolls-Royce wanted a pin-up car that matched the admiration sown to the Eldorado. In 2024 - they still do.
Oddly enough, here in Prague, CZ as I sit in suburbia surrounded by Communist built "Krushevska" housing blocks, there is a new Roll Royce showroom 500m up the street. It certainly looks incongruous in postcode where the average gross monthly salary is $1000
Fantastic car for about 1% of people that are looking to buy a car. The new high HP cars are killing hundreds of people a year, millions in court fines and fees causing insurance costs to go through the roof.
Dear Donald, thanks for mentioning the Camargue, I actually own the last RHD-built one.The Spectre indeed can be seen as the electrified Camargue. Paolo Martin, a dear friend of mine, the designer of the Camargue ...I am going straight away to send him the video linkl and see what he thinks about the Spectre design. But I still imagine the Spectre to have a second version, with the V16 internal combustion engine. What about you?And totally agree to your comments to the Wraith and Jay's about the horrible Cullinan.
The world leading 2 car philosophers waxing about cars...what else can you ask for ? Wonderful

WOW! Donald looks fantastic behind the wheel of this beautiful Rolls! What a glorious automobile.😊
You two are a really pleasant and interesting couple of car guys. Thanks for a great video. Great seeing Jay treating himself with a new RR.

The smoothness and quietness is also what I love at my Mitsubishi Sigma 3.0V6 12V
Two knowledgeable gentlemen talking about automobile history 👏🏾

It's smooth and quiet, check👍.

I agree on the body of the Wraith. Rear end/rear window so beautiful
Love watching these two legends together. Keep up the great work!
I'm convinced too .-that I have a better chance of being hit by one of those than ever being behind the wheel of one.
cant even steal the emblem
7:19- "It has a washer-dryer combination look to it"! Hah ha ha ha! Now that you mention it, I can see that! 😂
I used to drive a 78 continental Mk4 that was like this and it made me understand why old people drove so slowly. I've never realized it but as a 24 year old I was always 5 under the speed limit
"78 continental Mk4" - Looks like you have early onset Alzheimer's, there's no such car.
@@BubbaSmurft 76 you ever heard of a typo
Some earlier British cars had three position heater switches also: hum, rattle, and squeal.
Insert Lucas jokes here lol.
Thank you Donald for a thoroughly enjoyable tour. Who was that guy you brought along?
Finally the design team at Rolls Royce has done a good job. I luv the lights, front and back. They should do the same design in non-electric as well.
I would give anything to meet Mr Leno and see his collection. Dream come true for a life long car builder and fanatic.
WHAT A MASTERPIECE 😍
That was an enjoyable drive!
Makes no sense to me that this channel only has 58K subscribers.
Well, now I'm truly a helpless addict. Watching this makes me want this very car & that's just too much of everything for poor, l'il olde me....
Another great piece 😎👍
I love Donald. He’s so magical to watch!
*Best Spectre talking points review yet. Thanks.*
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!

'washer/dryer' - magic.
That was right fun... as a Rolls fan big time going back to the beginning... very interesting discussion...
Last time I drove a new Rolls Royce was about 1987, parking cars at a celebrity charity lunch. I was only 2 blocks so can't say much about it except it seems like I was in a Jed Clampett's mansion on wheels.
That is a beautiful machine...🤤🤤🤤
Jay: “I don’t quite get the Cullinan.” Donald: “(Sigh)” 🤣
This is a lovely car. Electric is the obvious choice for a car that is about quiet luxury and RR have absolutely nailed it. Wish I could afford one! 😂
I LOVE this car. It is the best Luxury car in my opinion.
Gorgeous car, especially the rear 3/4 view and the su£cide doors!
Yes Jay, it’s quiet! We old people value that. Haha.
Gorgeous car design.
Love it .
I used to hate EVs but this is amazing. Now when old this is perfect car for wwithout v8 someting roaring.

Awesome stuff.
“Phantom has a washer dryer combination look to it” 😂
"I'm working on my tan, Jay".
"You're going to need a bigger Sun".
Well, thanks .. oddly interesting discourse……….& some VEHICLE stuff, etc.
Felix and Oscar 😂❤ thanks for the awesome video ❤✌️🇺🇸
Hah! Right on comparison.
I can’t believe how quiet that is lmao
They’ve improved the styling for sure. Less blingy and more class.
Like driving a living room!!
Jay and Donald in the Car always means Business in the front Party in the rear…maybe after 5th November Jay could be driven by another Donald !
I'm just like Jay Leno. I drive my car on Sachuest beach rd. just like he does. ....except my car is a 1979 Plymouth Volare station wagon.
... and one for me, please! 😎
It was nice of Jay to transport his Spectre all the way to the east coast, just to let Donald take it for a spin for an hour. 🤣
This is our Spectre from the Audrain Collections, not Jay’s. Thanks for watching!
But, does it have the Ernst Stavro Blofeld option? Like the Mercury Marquis with the de Sade option.
"The Sound of Silence" (Simon & Garfunkel, 1964)
Donald was seriously focused on the road 😂😂 didn’t want to scratch it ….not quite white knuckle …..😇
I thought the Camargue was ugly until ..........Sorry Jay , the present line up knock the Camargue into a cocked hat however well appointed and quiet it is . I still rate the series 1 Jaguar XJ6 as the supreme o the supreme !
Wow 🤩 will you buy one of those Donald ? That vehicle would suit you well sir 😉
Thank you...I'll take one.
Hahahhaaaa.....i dont see that coming
First 5 seconds, couldn't recognize Jay's face...
Kinda shocked to see his rapid aging process...
The fastest depreciating car ever? (Biggest loss expected). Name one that'll be worse!

We gotta bring back the luxobarges
I saw Nick in this leaving the show a month ago. It'd be nice to see his opinion too.

I wonder when an electric 4dr Ghost will premiere
I wonder how quiet the Spectre is compared to the Celestiq? I’d love to drive either of these beasts!
They both drive a Celestiq in another video.
What is the range? Why so much camber in the front wheels?
You don’t drive such a vehicle you promenade.

The mileage could and should be better given its price.
MGB from the other day?
EV power is the solution that Rolls Royce should always had
I think they call that a preset button 😂
So, what is the average age of the Bentley buyer? Rolls Royce at 42 average age is cool IMO.
The front isn’t nice. Has two faces because of the lower headlights. Otherwise great.
The rear looks like a ct-5 to me.
Hey🎉 why buy a RR that looks like a Nash Rambler! Lol
