Never stop making these videos brother, working on getting my private pilots license and your channel has been a blessing, especially love how you transcribe the ATC communications, keep it up!
Martin, I just told my Wife to get her passport renewed and I’ll take her to Bimini in a C182. We had plans to go to Asheville, NC KAVL in November, but the flooding up there has us looking to go elsewhere. Thanks for your videos. Were inspired to take our first trip to the Bahamas!
Awesome! I hope you and your wife enjoy your trip to Bimini. Maybe add a little island hopping once you are in the Bahamas; we didn’t and later thought it would have been a good add-on. Regards, Martin
It really was quite simple, easier than I had imagined prior to this first flight we made to the Bahamas. In reality, the hardest part of this trip was navigating our way through the airport in Bimini to get to the ramp and our airplane. - Martin
I love your videos Martin!.. I used to fly for the airlines and lost my medical, I miss flying so much.. Watching your videos brings back a little piece of flying, thank you.😊
Hi Martin… Enjoyed the video. Brought back memories of flying over to Nassau in the late 70’s from MIA. Your unhurried approach to your flights is a good example for us to follow. Very professional! 👍
Great video as always Martin. I had always thought you were suppose to stay in the plane and they came out to you and that they would get very upset if you exited the plane before they came out. Good info to know.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Different customs offices have different procedures and expectations. That’s why the CBP GA Fact Sheets are so helpful; they tell you exactly what to do at a specific location. - Martin
Just come cross ur channel so getting caught up and I agree 12:01 view with ship is stunning!!!. I live in New Hampahire cross near a lake with airport called Dillant Hopkins Airport. Its in Keene NH where that incodent I've heard a few years ago with a plane NTSB release the political report saying had something to so with failing injectors.
Good to see you and Becky living the good life! You both deserve it! Tomorrow morning, we head back to Iowa one more time this year. We should be in Cedar Rapids Tuesday. You're probably down in Florida for the winter already? Rick in Tucson. Enjoy!

3 Aspens...would you do that again if you did it over? I'm making the decision now and I don't see the 3rd screen being used much, other than the timers....any advice would be appreciated. Love your channel thanks!
@@robertsummers5264 Good question... I think that's a toss. I do like the Aspen setup which gives e the ability to see things like a dedicated traffic display and timers at a glance. At the same time, all-Garmin would have slightly better integration, e.g. display of autopilot modes on the PFD instead of the dedicated mode annunciator panel I have now. I could be perfectly content with either one, as both companies know how to get the job done well.
The AC has made a huge difference to our flying this summer. And while not quite the Bahamas, we are planning another trip to Florida in the Bonanza in October - that should be a good test for the AC. - Martin
That was a fast "three mile final" from the Embraer jet, and cleared quite quickly. Makes me think about non-towered. Is there a rule once a plane broadcasts their "on final" what about if your holding in a L39 jet and some smuck in a "buck fifty" radio's 'on a straight in five mile final.' 🤪 Beautiful blue water around the island. 🌏🇦🇺
Thanks, John - I agree, the whole area (and the water in particular) are stunningly beautiful. As for a clear rule which says when to hold short and when to go: no, there isn't one for non-controlled airports. Back in the old days, even the distance from touchdown was at best a rough estimate. So it's at our discretion, and of course we try to be careful and not take chances, while also being reasonably efficient. - Martin
The GDL52 can do that, but as you correctly pointed out, my iPad already gets ADS-B data (traffic and FIS-B weather) from the GTN 750Xi. The additional function which the GDL52 performs in my setup is it receives SiriusXM weather and feeds it to the iPad and Garmin Pilot. I highlighted a few of the reasons why I prefer SXM over FIS-B weather in a previous video: th-cam.com/video/EoVtAgW5vsA/w-d-xo.html Regards, Martin
Nice Saturday morning bonus. Nothing beats Bahamas flying as it is truly one of the most beautiful places in the world in my books. Did you have a chance to take in any of the other Outer Islands? Thanks for sharing.
Maybe I don’t understand what precisely you are asking, but yes, that is what customs does - they inspect arriving aircraft (and their passengers). The instructions said to leave the doors open so that customs officers could visually inspect the inside. Regards, Martin
Good question. Turbo-normalization would indeed be very nice to have (who wouldn't like the extra speed and altitude capability!), but it's not something that I think of as required, based on where I live. If I lived in the western half of the country, I'd probably think differently. And who knows, maybe one day I'll get a TAT system added. - Martin
That was Awesome!! Thanks! So, you moved. That means that gives me MORE Jaarsma bakery goods that you don't get. LOL I will send you some Dutch Letters or whatever you would like. :) KPEA
@@martinpauly. Yes. You can get your clearance on the ground by phone but that doesn’t mean you can cross the ATIS. Have to be squawking and talking. So you will still need to get up to around 6k before you can continue.
So if it's IFR or a ceiling below 5000, we can get a clearance and release on the ground? Just wondering how we could depart legally and fly through a ceiling to 6000 to reach Miami.

With close proximity of Bimini to florida was it really necessary to gain altitude before contacting miami?..did silver do the same?
Yes, gaining altitude was necessary. Maybe a little less altitude would have been ok.
