Great job ! I am persian, and i love alternative histories involving the middle east. American forces and their fortresses had many places espicially near the northern mountains leading to turkamanistan and other soviet satellite states bordering persia. th-cam.com/play/PLR6iecHCNCGza5sDD4Bq_lDWoNPVk17Qt.html I was helping this channel with scenarios and eventually a Persian kingdom scenario in kaiser Reich (long history of prtoguesse invasion, repelling ottomen, russian and british attacks and inviting german engineers to make railroads and machinary) If its not difficult for you to consider, i am Happy to help with new scenarios especially in the Mideast.
I'm deployed in East Africa at the moment and id like to say your videos and sultry Saxon voice keep me company during my nights in the guard towers. I love your videos and this channel, and the effort you put in for your content is astounding! I wish you great success I cant wait to watch this new series!
I have a background noise playlist that is pretty much all of Hapless' and Battle Order's videos. Also has digital battlefront and GI history handbook.
I think the book "The Third World War" by Gen. Sir John Hackett had a similar start, with a conflict in Iran? Which was also the setting for Team Yankee, I believe.
@@michaelaustin310 Ah that was it, thanks. I remembered tensions in the Gulf, and was pleasantly surprised (on digging out my copy) to find that the timeline gives the following: "10-18 January: US declares that it must have more naval forces in the Gulf in order to stabilize the situation there. A US task force is dispatched to Bandar Abbas."
Great scenario writing and presentation. It feels heightened enough to bring true intrigue and excitement without going overboard up the escalation ladder or pushing forces *too* far out of logistical and risk-calculus based believably.
I can't help but think that the Americans are going to develop the Stryker concept a decade early in this world - assuming anyone's left when the dust settles! My money is definitely on the Soviet armoured vehicles, unless the timer is really rough or the Americans have brought a lot of dragons.
I have been watching your videos now for a few years and have been fully remiss in stating just how good a job you do with both styles of presentation. Thank you for your efforts as they are much appreciated.
It's been an Year already (And road to damascus was 2 years ago????? wtf) ? Holy hell, I'm getting old fast. Can't wait for it to start! Amazing stuff Hapless, can't wait for it!
Don't think like that Hapless, think as your content is awesome and I can't wait to remember "road to damascus" being 10 years old! Love you man, thanks for all the joy and knowledge this whole time!
The effort you put into each video especially this one deserves more recognition. Always enjoy your content. Keep it going. Hopefully we get some new combat mission content in 2025. I really want a new engine and graphics please. We can only hope.
I was going to film some clips in Sea Power, but the air-to-air combat is still a little clunky. Plus, you know- modern air combat there's not always that much to see.
excellent scenario. got chills in anticipation of the battle. reads like a twilight 2000 scenario. ( I actually own the Iran expansion) the significance of mission name Ridgeway (and his contribution and investment of Inchon) are not lost on me. cheers!
The slide show backdrop was awesome, i dont do as much online gaming as i used to, do alot of wargaming but i can spend weeks creating a backdrop for game that will last 1-2 hours.
Despite it being a year early, I believe Luka also made a Chocolate Chip camo mod for troops after I asked in the discord. It would be pretty cool for these RDF guys ;)
The Americans will likely be very reliant on their I assume to be TOWs AT systems to cut the Soviet armoured recon elements down, Using the AT Jeeps well and keep them protecting will be critical for the US success I think. Along with using the buildings as cover for the infantry and TOW units. The Soviets on the other hand have to try and eliminate the Jeeps and AT systems as soon as possible, using their superior mobility and BMPs firepower and squad carrying ability to get into the compound and overrun those positions. I can see this scenario becoming one where the NATO force has to prevent the Soviet one from putting enough critical mass to punch through in any focused area because if the soviets can close the distance and enough mass into the objectives I think the US forces could be overrun. It's an interesting scenario of course, matches the cold war theme. I think though for this poor US Airborne force they have been sent into an Arnhem situation. The Soviets will be able to bring in troops quicker and in larger quantity than the US could with airborne forces. If the air war starts to get hot resupply and reinforcement might become a costly endeavour to continue or even worse impossible. If the soviets set up Anti Ship batteries near the coast or worse able to concentrate decent amounts of land based aircraft armed with anti ship weapons near the Gulf, I think a US Amphibious attempt is off the books. Likely this is the nightmare scenario for the Americans I think, If Soviet Anti ship capability is allowed into the gulf, The Soviets will have control and say on who sails in there and who is allowed oil from Iran.
There are tricky elements for both sides, tactically. Especially ammo conservation for the Americans and speed for the Soviets. Strategically, the US are really on the backfoot in this region, in this specific time period. Hence they came up with CENTCOM not long after.
It's not directly inspired- Iran is a pretty obvious 3rd World Cold War flashpoint, but yeah in hindsight it's very similar. Maybe Threads can be the bonus video at the end, no matter who wins...
All that fluff written just so we can watch BMPs fire into the tree trunks for two whole turns and for the pixeltruppen dun goofed and walk into enemy fire despite their waypoints :D
It's a mix, mostly the OST from a film called 'Falling Down' and a little bit of a track from the old game 'World in Conflict". I wanted to get more WiC in for the nostalgia value, but Falling Down had longer tracks that were easier to work with.
This scenario feels a bit remainescent of the Iranian crisis that starts the nuclear war in the movie Threads. Let us hope for all our pixeltruppen´s families that it won´t end similarly, lest they envy the dead

ITS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME, OF THE YEEEEAAARRR
DING DONG DING DONG
This genuinely makes an awesome alt-hist TV show opening...
God. Road to Damascus was 2 years ago, already!? 😭
literally thought the same thing when he said that, its crazy
Yep. Don't even think about the Road to Montebourg!

Hi, stay strong and mostly awake ! Good luck outside

This has so much wargame- energy to it, I love it. You have a good sense of imagination. :)
Anyone who has watched the film "Threads" knows how this conflict ends.
I think the book "The Third World War" by Gen. Sir John Hackett had a similar start, with a conflict in Iran? Which was also the setting for Team Yankee, I believe.
@@statstats3724Hacketts book used Yugoslavia as the Flashpoint. Harold coyle has a book that is similar.

Thanks! Things were originally a lot more kinetic (the US Carrier got schwacked by cruise missiles) but I toned it down a bit to make it less crazy
I can't help but think that the Americans are going to develop the Stryker concept a decade early in this world - assuming anyone's left when the dust settles! My money is definitely on the Soviet armoured vehicles, unless the timer is really rough or the Americans have brought a lot of dragons.
I think the Americans be wishing they got to bring the Bradley and Abram to the battle.

Thanks very much man!
OOOOooo, that briefing of the events was very well done. I'm very excited
I already love this. Can't wait to see how it goes.
Very intriguing scenario. Also the picture at 5:18 goes insanely hard.
It's been an Year already (And road to damascus was 2 years ago????? wtf) ? Holy hell, I'm getting old fast. Can't wait for it to start! Amazing stuff Hapless, can't wait for it!

What a great briefing to round the video out with
Thanks very much!
What a gripping introduction!
Looks fun. The air war looks like it could be a great DCS scenario, too!
I was going to film some clips in Sea Power, but the air-to-air combat is still a little clunky. Plus, you know- modern air combat there's not always that much to see.
dude I thought this video was going to be about the team fortress 2 demoman loadout with the base jumper, persian persuader, and the sticky jumper
I don't a scimitar would be much use here. The British recce light tank with the 30mm cannon, maybe, but not the cold steel kind
@@usuallyhapless9481based on how close those tanks got, the sword might have more use than a you think!
Damn, Combat Mission Head-cannon goes crazy

Nice, will be fun.. It's a pretty unique format, I love it 😊
'Tis the best time of year yet again...
I like the slideshow, reminds me of wargame airland battle campaigns
Despite it being a year early, I believe Luka also made a Chocolate Chip camo mod for troops after I asked in the discord. It would be pretty cool for these RDF guys ;)
Ooooh, that's tempting. It wouldn't make much sense, because the 82nd are coming in from Europe, but it would be cool!
@ They stole the uniforms from the 101st before they could participate in Exercise Bright Star lol.
gonna be great! il look forward to it
Hell yeah, Love your videos man
Hey, Matrix Games! Hapless has basically written a new CMCW DLC for you. Send him a big fat check and a fruit basket.
Yay new series!
Superb scenario bravo
Thanks very much!
I love your videos
Reminds me the book by Harold Coyle, Sword Point
I didn't realise he wrote more than one book! Will have to check that out.
Fantastic stuff
Awsome made my day to hear the news
NTC as a middle eastern conflict is genius
I kinda want to make this into an Arma 3 operation
It would work, don't know if there are any maps of Bandar Abbas floating around though

Hapless, is that the introductory backdrop to the film 'Threads' ?
Seems inspired by it, but a few details altered.

Maybe Threads can be the bonus video at the end, no matter who wins...
A bit unrelated but you should give Armored Brigade 2 a look, I think you'd like it.
I'm poking it, but until I sit down and really invest the time I think it's a little bit too CM-adjacent
All that fluff written just so we can watch BMPs fire into the tree trunks for two whole turns and for the pixeltruppen dun goofed and walk into enemy fire despite their waypoints :D
Well, I purposefully picked a region with no trees to avoid the whole tree trunk thing... but there's no cure for pixeltruppen going off script
Do you already know what side you will be playing and who you will be the player on the other side?
The plan for the Turn-by-Turn segment is to play as the Americans against Luka from the CM Discord
Keen! Should be fun.
Oh dear oh dear, what's the worst that could happen?~

You can shorten my name to Badcompany sir.
An excellent scenario Hapless! Looking forward to it👍.
