I once saw Mike Ness(The singer of Social Distortion pull a comb out of his pocket while singing this song and comb his hair back *mid verse.* Didn’t miss a beat. What a performer. One of the all time great frontmen.

If you want Social Distortion with more lyrical depth, Don't Drag Me Down off of White Light White Heat White Trash, or Reach for the Sky off of Sex Love and Rock and Roll.
Don't even save them for reactions. Just give them a listen. Those two albums are absolutely solid through and through.

I commented for Reach For The Sky as well! Its an Anthem! A feel good uplifting song that I always jam loud when I need a pick me up!

Social D is essentially a giant nostalgia bomb with a '50s greaser aesthetic. While I'm not a huge fan, they def have their own unique sound.

    More REM!!!

Lol the REM reference I would have never compared the 2 before but you are not wrong at all! As soon as you said REM I instantly thought of Stand in the place where you live.. As much as I dont want to compare them together lol But you are right! You happened to have listened to their 2 biggest radio play songs! These 2 songs were on KROQ (here in Los Angeles) 10 times a day back in the late 90s - 2000s! I love these songs but if you want the songs with soul and substance you got to go with non radio hits! I recommended on your ball and chain reaction video to listen to "Reach For The Sky" so Ill stick with that lol. Another piece of info about Social D is their amazing Live! Everyone should go see them live. Id even feel safe taking the kids to a Social D show!

Mike Ness & Social D are known for incorporating a rockabilly sound in a lot of their music. And this song was released in 1990.

Oldest Social D is pretty punk. After the first two albums they’re basically the best country punk band ever.

I find it hilarious that country fans never seem to notice the country influences, but set this in front of someone who isn't around country a whole lot and it's the first thing they'll mention. 😂

Both Ball and Chain, and this one, are from their self titled album that came out in 1990(their first for a major label). The REM song Joel mentioned came out in 88.
This doesn’t necessarily have to do with the song, but REM were among(if not actually leading the pack, I forget) the first handful of bands that helped make alternative rock a thing. And Alternative was born from the punk scene. Not that anyone ever considered them a punk band(I don’t think?).
PS - SkaPunker, recommend on of their earlier songs would ya? These are great, but everyone knows these, and never learns where they came from

@@skapunker21 oh, cool. Look forward to seeing what they think of I Was Wrong. Mommy’s Little Monster would awesome. Reach For The Sky would great too. Sex, Love, and Rock N Roll was pretty disappointing, but that’s definitely one of the bright spots
