Mike Ness and Social D are legends in the Punk scene. He had an apartment that he would let young punks stay at when they needed it. I believe it was called Black Hole. I believe the Adolescents did a song about it as well as "Kids of the K-Hole" by NoFx.
Social D's punk rock for similar reason to why Frank Turner is punk rock. Came from the socal punk scene, sounds completely their own and all of Social D's music is really good when youre in the mood.
Surprised that you guys are just now hearing Social D. Very glad to hear it. They are in my top 5 punk bands of all time. I recommend you guys check out their songs ‘prison bound’ and ‘bad luck’ at some point.
Funny, a maintenance guy came to work on my furnace in the garage and noticed my Social D sign on the wall. I told him about how I was a punk rock fan and he said he didn't realize they were classified punk. He said it was more seen a "greaser rock" where he was from.
Their album "SOmewhere between heaven and hell', is great. All killer.........no filler. Bruce Springsteen called it his fave record the year it came out. Joins them on stage many times.
im glad you both loved this song., i had a pretty good feeling you would. i was a little surprised at the ratings as they were just a bit over where i was guessing (7.5 for joel and flat 7 for chuck.) braincell to Joel for the south park reference in the beginning of the video, and that social distortion pun at then end.
Check out the album "White Light, White Heat, White Trash"... Don't Drag Me Down, I Was Wrong, Through These Eyes, Down on the World Again,. The self titled album and Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell are on the Rockabilly genre of punk.
@@gregvanbeek9797 Ball and Chain is a great song. It was punk in 1990's, compared to what was popular back then. The Terminator movie back then was awesome, watch it today and it doesn't have the same affect (or video games).
Fuck yeah, Bois! I'm surprised you went this long without listening to Social D. The band is legendary. Highly recommend you do more of them. And see them live, if you can.
You guys should try something off of mommy's little monster. My favorite is Telling Them but Another State of mind and the title track are near perfection too
This was off their self titled album from 90, and they were definitely not mainstream they’ve been around since 79 and they still don’t get radio play but that’s ok because they like my other favorite band Depeche Mode(don’t hate) have a following that’s been around for a long time.
First of all when was social distancing ever cool?? lol The genre you are looking for is Punk Rockabilly with a splash of the blues! A 60's style vibe with a punk twist! Mike Ness (the singer lead guitar) is one of the greatest song writers of his era! Every album is good with no skippable tracks! I highly recommend off thier 2004 album Sex, Love and Rock N' Roll their first track "Reach For The Sky" ! Its an Anthem, its a spiritual uplift when you need one! Its helped dig me out of that negative energy I get stuck in from time to time!
listen to mommy's little monster, mass hysteria or 1945 to get a better taste of why they are punk. they were on the forefront of socal punk in the late 70's while Mike was still a teenager. I consider the album White Light White Heat White Trash peak social D. such a beautiful album.
Always been a favorite band of mine. If you like the kind of more acoustic rootsy type songs check out Prison Bound. Also their "newer" stuff is very classic American rock feel check out "Bakersfield " or "California Hustle and Flow"
If you wanna see more music reactions, other content, and gaming vids, give Joel's solo account a follow!

Social D is definitely punk, but more Americana/Country tinged than most of their other contemporaries

This an amazing description of drug addiction and alcoholism. Such an ear worm!

Funny enough the first time I saw Frank Turner, it was opening for Social Distortion.
@@joemiller7082sounds like a dream. What a gig man
This was called California Punk back in the day.

A go to in my setlist. Love watching people realize they know it and it turns into a singalong.
Hard not to love any Social D song. They definitely align with punk yet sound their own. And you can instantly know it’s them.

This takes me back to College 🤘

Yes they 100% need to listen to each of them. This was prob not the best choice of song.

I remember once seeing them described as cow punk
Cowpunk legends! Social D!

Mike Ness is God
Ball & Chain released in 1990
Best band ever. AND my favorite song. Any reaction short of total adoration will be disappointing 🙃🤘❤️🔥
Ormond Beach FL here if you need someone to fill in once in a while!

Listen to anything off of the Mommy's Little Monster album. And Mainliner: Wreckage From the Past.
I think you need to check out Another State Of Mind for a more punk rock vibe.
White Light, White Heat, White Trash was more punchy. I'm looking forward to the next album.
