  • This is the 1995 Catamaran Cruiser Lil' Hobo I will be converting to electric propulsion. This video shows the boat interior at the beginning of my project. I just bought this boat and wanted to give a walkthrough. The Lil' Hobo is laid out so perfectly for my project. I am excited to get started.

    Awesome setup on the boat. As to the oven, we use it most every time we go out. Not as much as to stove top, but biscuits, cakes, pizza...

    Jim, what an amazing start to your adventure! Episode 1 we loved it - congratulations! And we love the boat! It's perfect for your project and offers plenty of room to play. Beate says the oven is a must if you're travelling for a long time. You'll be able to bake fresh bread, sandwiches, soufflés, and pizza! There's no fast food on the water, but you'll have plenty of time to cook up a storm. (;-))
    We can't wait to see what you do next! We wish you all the best!

    Would LOVE one of these myself. As for the oven I constantly use one more than I do stove top baking foods instead of frying for example.

      It will be interesting to see how I cook after being on the boat for a couple weeks at a time. I believe it will be canned food and microwave cooking :-)

      Thank you, they really are.
      Small enough that you can haul them around to different locations like an RV. And also has a comfort of an RV. But you get to try out all the beautiful lakes and rivers this great country has to offer.

    Congrats with the Lil Hobo. Thanks for the video. I work alot with solar and batteries, and I can say that you have more space then you need for solar panels. How much battery capacity are you looking to use/fill? This will help determine the amount of solar you will need. I can imagine that "e-propulsion" will use alot of power. So your expected commuting distance will be the factor that helps determine a battery capacity.
    You can save a ton of weight/space by replacing the fridge with electric only since you will have the power.
    We put a lake water filter system on ours and it was probably the best spent time and money uypgrade that we did. Since it appears as if your are not in coastal salt waters, it can be very very useful and you dont have to carry around tons of water/tank weight to slow down your electric effeciency.
    Keep making the videos and have a great day and I will see you on the lake!

      Hello and thank you for your comment.
      That is a lot of great information, I had thought about the water system and it is awesome to see that it would fit on a little boat like ours.
      You are correct about the power requirements for the motor and however since I'm only going to be on lakes my travel distance is not a really big requirement so I can just pull over and go fishing for a day or so. However my shortage conscience I want to get as much solar that would fit on the roof as possible so my travel distance can be more. I'm going to do a little bit more research to find out how much propulsion I need to move the boat approximately 5 to 7 knots as I have calculated that the whole speed for that boat is 7.3 knots.

    Hey Jim, that looks like a great project! Someone did a great job on the refit of the interior. I'm looking forward to seeing how you implement your E-drive.

      I really like your username, I hope people take that to heart.
      I was very blessed that the previous owners did the interior remodel.
      Now all I have to do is the conversion and off we go :-).

    I wouldn't use solar panels. I would use the, " alternator battery charger , " with your small generator, or use a lawn mower motor attached to a old alternator . Don't have to worry about cloudy days . . .

    Leve railings put cross members on them for solar

    • @ElectricBoatAdventures
      @ElectricBoatAdventures  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I believe I am just overthinking this :-). I'm just going to mount the solar panels directly to the roof with some expandable brackets that I can lift it off the roof about 6 in. Hopefully I won't be removing them at all.

    Frig / freezer to run on gas it also has to runs on 12v

    • @ElectricBoatAdventures
      @ElectricBoatAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes on gas. will use heater and hot water , fridge and some cooking. I will use a Buck Converter for 12 volts. was going to use a stand-alone 12 Volt LFP, but its all about the room, or lack of.

    • @ElectricBoatAdventures
      @ElectricBoatAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your comment. Hum, Protect the panels from what? humans will not be allowed on the roof except for me to go up there and clean them. and I think they will also cast a shadow over the solar panels in the early Mornings and late evenings. and The railings took up about 6 " off of the edge of the roof for the railing support so I can use that maybe for more panels ,More panels, more power :)

  • @juanvelez7070
    @juanvelez7070 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Fasten the panels to the railing then you have under panel access.

      @@juanvelez7070
      Hum, then I would have to mount more railing to support the fronts and the other sides of the panel.
