I am Jim Boat. I am documenting my journey in converting regular power boats into electric boats. From finding the right project boat to installing solar, batteries and electric engines. I am new at this, so I hope to get lot's of input from you, my audience.
EP 4 - Roof Prep Done
The roof prep is done! I removed the railing and filled in all the holes. I also washed and painted the entire roof.

Hello and Welcome to the Project. Lets get this going!!
Fasten the panels to the railing then you have under panel access.
Looks a lot cleaner without all them railings! Nice job!
Yep, now I have to clutter it up with solar panels :-)
We use our rv oven every trip. Primarily for biscuits.
Yum, biscuits and gravy! I want to go camping with you all :-)
Subscribed!
Thank you! I'm almost finished painting the roof. Video soon :-)
Can't wait for your motor selection. Cool boat.
Thank you, not much of a selection. But I have to have the room for the batteries to power it.
Jackie the Joke Man does electric conversions?😂 Great video. Ba Ba Booey.
I try not to take myself too seriously. Thank you for the comment.
Jim, what an amazing start to your adventure! Episode 1 we loved it - congratulations! And we love the boat! It's perfect for your project and offers plenty of room to play. Beate says the oven is a must if you're travelling for a long time. You'll be able to bake fresh bread, sandwiches, soufflés, and pizza! There's no fast food on the water, but you'll have plenty of time to cook up a storm. (;-)) We can't wait to see what you do next! We wish you all the best!
Thank You for the nice comments. But......Baking...me. If Wifey's not with me, Its Canned food, and Microwave hot dogs. :)
Congrats on the getting your Lil Hobo Jim! Awesome video and looking forward to the conversion.
Thank You!
i use the oven in my 5th wheel, for storage. haha
HAYYYY...That's a Great Idea. (Wife slaps me) NO! lol
Congrats with the Lil Hobo. Thanks for the video. I work alot with solar and batteries, and I can say that you have more space then you need for solar panels. How much battery capacity are you looking to use/fill? This will help determine the amount of solar you will need. I can imagine that "e-propulsion" will use alot of power. So your expected commuting distance will be the factor that helps determine a battery capacity. You can save a ton of weight/space by replacing the fridge with electric only since you will have the power. We put a lake water filter system on ours and it was probably the best spent time and money uypgrade that we did. Since it appears as if your are not in coastal salt waters, it can be very very useful and you dont have to carry around tons of water/tank weight to slow down your electric effeciency. Keep making the videos and have a great day and I will see you on the lake!
Hello and thank you for your comment. That is a lot of great information, I had thought about the water system and it is awesome to see that it would fit on a little boat like ours. You are correct about the power requirements for the motor and however since I'm only going to be on lakes my travel distance is not a really big requirement so I can just pull over and go fishing for a day or so. However my shortage conscience I want to get as much solar that would fit on the roof as possible so my travel distance can be more. I'm going to do a little bit more research to find out how much propulsion I need to move the boat approximately 5 to 7 knots as I have calculated that the whole speed for that boat is 7.3 knots.
We loved the tour guys!!! Your shirt was perfect for the tour too 😊 I totally use rv ovens especially around the holidays. Looking forward to your maiden voyage 🍾
thank you for watching and commenting :) - wifey got me the tshirt for my bday
Looking good Jimmy! I don't think I ever saw you without a beard. Looking forward to see the video on your new boat.
it's coming!
Awesome video Jim!
thank you!
Congrats Captain Jimmy Boat for pursuing one of your bucket list goals. It's been many years in the making and I'm excited to follow your journey from the conversion of your boat to your great loop travels.
Thank you Mr joe, I'm looking forward to the first milestone where I can say, hey honey, we bought a boat! 😁 I think it might be better than buying a zoo😁 poor movie reference?
I had a boat and a zoo. Definitely get a boat!
