Absolutely beautiful it's really hard to beat the classics Davie I am planning on doing a box of classics butchers, all the teal and mallard type Peter Ross, mallard and claret etc so just going through your library for inspiration and reference.👌
Davie, I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your time sharing your craft. Your videos have helped my tying immensely with both technique and proportion. I wish in some way I could repay you for the joy you bring to my tying... I think every fly I tie I hear "Take your time" in my head.
Hi Jerry Engelman, I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that you have found them helpful, I know I keep saying take your time when tying, I really need to tell myself at times too... All the very best Davie
This video brought back some fine memories of old... you might say 'halcyon days'! When I was a boy I caught some of my first trout on this pattern, in the reservoirs around Edinburgh. I haven't fished a Kingfisher Butcher for years but now feel inspired to tie a few... thank Davie.
Mr McPhail, I just got started trying to tie wet flies and I just loved how simple you made this look. What a great color combo and I'm sure the fish hit this quite readily! Thanks again for sharing your talent.
Davie you may have tied worse would be my exceptional however over the two years I've been tying my flies have steadily improved. Many many thanks for continuing to post. Hope things continue to go from strength to strength with the fulling mill crowd. Yours sincerely Lewis.
outstanding job on your flies. I started tying flies when I was 7 years old for salmon fishing. I just got back into it last year after being away from tying for many many years. I've lost some of my touch, hands don't work as good as they did 42 years ago and my eyes aren't even close to being what they were. I fine myself having to rewrap the ribs on all my flies and I just can't seem to get the perfect uniform ribs. You nailed it perfectly first try.... Grrrrr.... LOL I've watched many of your videos, outstanding job on all your flies. Thanks for sharing Charlie
Great tying as usual Davie. I like fishing with nymphs, but I love tying traditional wet flies just for fun but I don't usually fish them I intend giving them a try next season.
Hi Davie, any chance you could make a video showing how you tie the traditional. butcher or bloody butcher? Would be very interested to see! Thanks, Steve
Beautiful tying job Davie. I'm interested in where you get your materials, especially wings for marring. Most of what I can find is just not good quality.
Great tutorials, I’m struggling to keep the fibres of the wing feathers together! I wasn’t to shabby fly tying as a nipper but I’ve not had a bash at it for nearly 25 years and my dexterity isn’t what it used to be! Help lol
Hi Quincy M-e, Secret Weapon flies like the Medicine Fly, Black Pennel, Butcher and a Delphi Black are patterns that I have tyed in the past to hold a maggot for seatrout and the Kingfisher Butcher would be an ideal pattern as well...They can be deadly though unfortunately we don't have the great runs of seatrout that we used to get which is all down to the salmon farms that litter our coast now which have caused the coastal fish to disappear due to the sea lice infestation that comes from them.. All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail I done some black pennels last night , were away up loch lyon at the weekend we changed from stockie bashing . I have been watching alot about these farms it boggles my mind why there allowed there studies in Canada that show there 100% to blame for the fall in migratory fish runs
Lovely looking fly Davie. Can I ask please, that when you do a 'wing', you use two feathers ? A feather from the bird's left and a right wings to correspond to a left and a right wing on the tied fly ? (Married feathers ?) Thanks.
Beautiful fly as usual Davie, I do have the feathers for the wing, I only have that blue for the tail in Duck wing. I think it may do though. I have the old gold mylar too but I hate using mylar, Sometimes I do use it if I have no other choice. Unfortuantely, that is more often than not as real tinsel doesn't come on those great size spools you have anymore. If they do, I can't find one. All the best to you, Sean
hi davie, i've just looked through a book of australian fly patterns, and on the butcher they have used peacock blues for the wing. what's your thoughts on this?
Hi robin watts I would certainly recommend using peacock blues for a wing as I have used them myself both for seatrout and brown trout... All the very best Davie
Hi Slick Roode, I bought the Chinese capes and very similar Indian hen capes from the Glasgow Angling Centre but I did look through them to get the ones I liked...I also like Whiting hen saddles which are also worth looking at... All the very best Davie

Really marvel at how you set your wings. Also glad to see a pattern where I can use these beautiful Mallard feathers! Thank you Davie.
What fun. I often find myself admiring your skill when I try to duplicate some of your flies. Thank you.

that was really amazing to watch, very fun, what an art it is, I see why they are costly!!! :-)
Great colors for a fly. Like to try for panfish
This is a great spider pattern after a few fish and the wings are chewed up snip them off and fish it point down and across

I look forward to the "aged" also! McPhail is becoming an important part of my day.
Davie is very cool, thank you very much!I also removed the video, you can see Мой фильм Gold Core
Where do you get your Chinese hen? I bought some in the past and they have been very poor quality with large stems, the exact opposite of yours.
Hi Slick Roode,
I bought the Chinese capes and very similar Indian hen capes from the Glasgow Angling Centre but I did look through them to get the ones I liked...I also like Whiting hen saddles which are also worth looking at...

👍
Nice!!!
