    Great as always Davie, I wish we had these in USA. I might tie a couple just to try. Not necessarily for fishing but for tying experience. All the best to you. Sean

    Hi Davie, I'm new to fly tying/fishing. I started last Christmas with a basic fly tying kit. I have watched hundreds of your videos and would like to say they are they are fascinating and very educational. I have managed to tie some of your fly's which have netted me a good few brown and rainbows this season. Could you recommend some wet fly's for Autumn/winter loch fishing....cheers brybo

    Killer pattern i have been taking a lot of Crappie on it. I tied mine with copper wire a chartruse body black wings with chartruse heckle. I fish dingy murky water.

    Great video as always.quick question do you have to tye the hackle in by the tip or can it be tide in by the base 🙏

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi max man.
      Traditionally you would tye the hen hackle in by the tip and the cock hackle in by the base which works mostly but if the best colour is in the tip of the hackle which can be on some small cock like Indian or Chinese capes then I would tye them in by the tip..The stem can encourage you to do this as well with both hen and cock capes..I'm glad you enjoyed the video..

    beautiful fly, im looking forward to trying in on sheelan in March, really appreciate you videos, only started trying again last year and your vids really helped me get back into it! I have a back pocket fly i got from a gillie a few years back called a jack stacks which i caught several fine trout with on Mask, perhaps if i sent you a pic of it you could help me copy it? i asked a few people to copy it but with no sucess, and people that would be well respected in the cyrcles of fly tying. I only ever had the 1 fly and reluctant to fish it. maybe you could help?? would also like to see you tie the yellow fan wing, was a great fly on the Corrib and also the red arsed green peter!! again would just like to say a big thank you for sharing your talent.

      Hi Aidan Gonnelly,
      I'm glad that the videos have helped you to get back to tying your own flies again, I would happy to try and help you copy it..I'll send you my email address through a PM so that you can send the photo as you can't attach any here...I do have a fan wing mayfly and a dry and wet version of the green peter on youtube...
      All the very best Davie

      Davie - did you ever tie this fly for Aidan? Video?

  • @davidthomasmartin1075

    Davie, I got some veniard wax. how do you soften it to prepare for tying? Thanks for your vids. regards David.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David,
      What I do is to cut a small piece off the side of the wax just enough when softened about the size of a small button..I then hold it under the warm water tap until it becomes soft, which doesn't take long then work it between your fingers until it gets tacky you can then stick it to the side of your finger ready to be used when needed...
      All the very best Davie

    Whats the thinking behind mixing the slf with seals fur Davie ? is it to make the seals fur last longer or does it just make the seals fur easier to bub?.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi particlepete1,
      The SLF and the Seals Fur are a great mix and has worked well with many patterns that I have tied over the years and like you said it will also help you to dub in on much easier. I also like to add rabbit, arctic fox and many of the flash dubbings which you can buy out there..Great question...
      All the very best Davie
