Hi Davie Great little fly and the profile is awsome. Will have to try to ty some up and see if the panfish will lie them. Thanks for the Great Videos Chance
Thanks very much for the dressing Davie, your videos are top class and well explained. I haven't tied flies and did very little trout fishing over the last 8 years. I tuned into your videos and took a liking to this fly. Well I gave it a swim on Mask today as a size 12 top dropper. I caught 8 fish and 6 to this fly. Needless to say I'll be tying a half dozen of them the next time I'm at the vice. Thanks again Davie and perhaps I'll bump into you one of the days down around the Corrib or Mask. Regards Conor.
Hi Conor Ledwith, I'm sure I'll be over some day fishing and that we'll meet and have a good yap.. The Claret Dabbler is a favourite of many anglers especially in Ireland so well done and keep going... All the very best Davie
Hello Davie, My team fished this fly in the 2012 Canadian National Fly Fishing Championship. It was one of 3 flies that we fished at a time, we did well! Nice Pattern Chris
Davie, i have tried making dabblers in more sombre colours (body is brown or black and without any shining elements) and on 12-10 hooks and tried them on chub. And it worked. Cheers and thanks for great ideas Aleksandar/ Serbia
Hi Davie, I am an old fly fisherman but a novice in tying and I do learn a lot from your videos. Very elegant and detailed! The best on TH-cam. I have some questions: Which wax do you use? Which whip finish tool? I finish by hand. Do you think it is wrong? All the best Marco
Hello Davie McPhail (I like very much your work) I want to know that puts a thread within 2 minutes 3 seconds, what does it do? excuse me, perhaps you can explain in the video, I can not understand.
HI Davie, I have a couple of requests, I constantly watch your video's and have searched for your version of the Welshman Button and Sooty Olive, I cant seem to find the video, perhaps you don't feel a need to tie them but I am sure you are aware they are very popular in Ireland. Have you ever had need to tie or use these patterns ?Thank you so much for all you videos .Keep up the good work.
Davie this is brilliant and thank you for sharing and teaching me.
A masterclass in traditional fly tying. Exceptional skill and quality tying. Thank you for sharing , and teaching us these vice skills .

Is it ok to put the Mylar on a bobbin holder please Davie, or any other ribbing spools for that matter to avoid wastage?
Dewi
Hi Dewi,
Yes you can as long as it's strong enough and it does help save waste as you you said...
All the very best Davie
