      This story is awesome! I drive a 1994 F150 (single cab, 8ft bed, 5.0, E4OD) with 130k miles on it and it still runs like a champ. It was a farm truck that I purchased 3 years ago with 102k miles on it, but it's served me well. I don't know if it will make it to a million miles, but I would be happy with 200k.

    • @midos6767
      @midos6767 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason the older gentlemen managed to get over a million miles of use out of his Truck is because it was obviously all highway miles. Highway miles don't put as much wear and tear on a vehicle; as repetitive city driving. For that reason it's common for big Semi-Tractor Trucks to have over 1 or 2 million miles and still be running.

      @Swampy I've been keeping an eye on the 6.7 for years. The very early ones had issues, which seem to have been worked out, but late 2012 and up seems to be extremely solid--the bulk of the owners of them agree that it is well on its way to being "the new 7.3" in terms of reliability despite the emissions hardware. After having a Duramax spit its head gaskets entirely by 360k miles, among other issues, I wouldn't mind trying one but work insists on buying more GM products. So far our '19 Chevy 3500 hasn't had any major issues but time will tell.

      @keepitmoving And not driven like a total fool. The way the head bolts are laid out even bulletproofed they can run into issues, though far less likely. That said, a 6.0 that's had all of the work done to it and driven intelligently will do a million+ miles.

    • @406Steven
      @406Steven 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @keepitmoving A 6.0 driven intelligently is still a solid engine. With a few side modifications like bypass filters they last better. Bulletproofing is the best way to go but you really should lift the cab to do so. For someone with a lift and the right know-how this is easy and you can make a million+ mile engine out of the 6.0 for a couple grand but it's a matter of time, money, and know-how. I've seen this done in a driveway with some jacks and some really sketchy stands so I know it's "doable" for the regular folk but, honestly, I'd rather stick to my V10. It guzzles gas but it just needs an oil change every now and then (1/3 the oil of a diesel and the filer is 1/5 as expensive) and then I do a fuel filter every 30k miles. Cost per mile is pretty cheap unless you get a diesel that manages to just go forever without anything but maintenance!

      The more people we have tuning their trucks to blow smoke the worse the emissions crap is going to get. To the point that the EPA has started cracking down on companies such as SCT which provide the hardware and individual companies which install illegal modifications (I.E. "deleting" trucks). At this point it's a race between making a clean, reliable diesel and a hybrid (or full electric) powertrain which will take the place of the diesel engine in light duty trucks.

      no Name technically if you are willing to pay extra and go directly through the factory. You could choose the time and date each part of the vehicle is pulled from the line. But to answer your question. Every part of a vehicle is tracked through the whole manufacturing process. If you ever see a marking on a part that looks like 2 clocks side by side out of dots. Thats the date marker. You would have to choose the components that are most important and trace them. At a certain point though you have to decide how much effort is worth it

      @@FerrariTeddy Precisely. You cannot find a seat for a Super Duty in a salvage yard with a good seat. My F-250 had destroyed seat edges when I bought it from people sliding in and out (contractor's truck, the hired hands don't care about the vehicle) and I got lucky to find a passenger's seat in a truck that had just come in (of course they had buddies waiting on the driver's seat) and paid $100 for it in good shape and even the right fabric--the hard part is convincing your passengers to use the running boards you bought and installed specifically to avoid this problem. As for the driver's seat, I found a factory Ford seat foam on Amazon and will have it reupholstered and nobody but me drives it so I'm sure it will last.

      @@FerrariTeddy Definitely with the XL (my F-250 is an XL as well). I have even gone so far as to check car-part(dot)com and call up salvage yards looking for a seat that wasn't destroyed. The passenger's seat I got was 4.5 hours away, fortunately they also had an '08 F-250 with the step tailgate and a good rear bumper (my tailgate and rear bumper were messed up when I bought it) so I made a day trip to Idaho and loaded up on parts. The driver's seat will get redone one day, I have all of the stuff to do it, just need to call up an upholstery shop and get it in to be redone.

      @Swampy Exactly. The 6.4 is, generally, a 150k-200k mile engine. Some last longer, some last less. Deleted, tuned for the delete but not cranked up, and driven like you have a brain they can last (just like a 6.0) but the 6.0 is actually a stronger engine when driven intelligently. I don't know if it's because it makes less power and torque or what but the only way I'd buy a truck with a 6.4 in it is because it has blown its engine and I got it cheap enough to swap in a Cummins. @Kenneth Obando makes a good point about the coolant, something about Ford's coolant is more acidic and can cause issues. I don't know what the trouble is but when we swapped our 6.0s out to the Cat coolant with the bypass filters we had substantially fewer issues with them. Cat has it figured out (hence why they've pulled out of the onroad market--they can't build a reliable engine that can meet modern emissions) and we ran their fuel filters with an external booster pump as well--it really helped the injectors and injection pumps last better. Diesel fuel itself is a lubricant and if you're not supplying enough fuel to them a lot of issues arise.

    The crew truck I drive for an epoxy flooring business has over 700,000 miles on it. It's a 7.3 Supercab 2001 F250. It's beat to hell but we still go cross country at 85mph all day long in it.

      Sold my '96 at 330k, still ran strong. Follow a strict maintenance schedule and fix the little problems before they become big ones! Got an '01 I'm looking to offload right now around 146k, had some work done to it but starts up on a 0 degree day as well as my V10 gasser.

    Econoline vans are known for this too. The 4.6 will run forever if you drive sensibly, change the oil on time, and hope the spark plugs stay put. I've got a 4.6 that runs like a top with 697,000 mi on it. Yes, I had all the plug heli coiled just to be sure...

    • @406Steven
      @406Steven 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anti-seize on the plugs when they go in, 18 lb-ft. on the torque wrench when they go in. 4.6/5.4/6.8 this works for them all. If you have a blowout don't bother with a Helicoil, go for the Cal Van kit. I've only done 2 cylinders with that kit but it has worked beautifully and was recommended to me by Fordtechmakuloco here on TH-cam.

      What’s the point. The new ones they sell won’t go the distance like this one. Notice he didn’t tow with it; only hauled. I bet not that heavy either.
