    There's something about those Toyota engineers. The build quality is absolutely incredible on these trucks. Who cares about gadgets and an extra 2mpg. Tundra for life.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      Really? The axles on the Tundra are notorious for a high rate of rear diff failures. The front diff is only marginally better. The number of 2nd/3rd gen Tundras with transmission issues is mediocre considering how few are made each year. The 3UR-FE powered Tundra gets 3 to 5 mpg worse than the most popular brands of full-size trucks. That's thousands of extra gallons of fuel simply because Toyota is too cheap to do anything to improve the fuel economy of the Tundra.
      Are you familiar with a guy by the name of NoQDRTundra? He owned a 2nd gen Tundra and in the first 60k miles owning that brand new Tundra, he was in the dealership several times due to a major lack of quality, durability, and reliability. Anybody that has visited TundraTalk and looked at the kinds of issues that the typical 2nd or 3rd gen Tundra has would be *very* unimpressed with Tundra quality. Especially considering Ford, GM, and Ram sell several times more fullsize trucks than Toyota sells Tundras. People look at domestics in a negative light, but when you take into consideration that those manufacturers sell several times more trucks, the issue rate with those trucks is right in line with what Toyota Tundra owners will experience. Toyota quality these days is very overrated. Look no further than the 3rd gen Tacoma, Consumer Reports "least reliable midsize truck" for 3 years in a row.

      @Kyle Magnuson you never want to flush a transmission though if you weren't flushing it on a regular basis according to the booklet in mileage because you will ruin it you will ruin that transmissionif you already have a ton of miles on the transmission and then wasn't getting flushed never flush it if you get to it in the first hundred thousand miles and keep on continuous do it then you'll be all right and even then it's kind of risky at a hundred thousand miles it really should be done it's according to whatever the booklet says.

    I just flipped 5k miles on my garaged and no drive winters Mag Grey Tundra TRDSport 5.7 DC. I am 55 and believe it will be my last truck.....I just installed the Wet Okole seat covers front and rear on it. It came with integrated running boards , spray on liner and tri fold solid cover. It really is a nice truck.

    What is so interesting about those who love to hate on the Tundra in stating it has not kept up with the other 1/2 ton full size trucks is why should it when it is so much more reliable and capable. I had a Ford with a 460 that was 3000 lbs lighter fully loaded with RV and yet it had many more issues and much less power than my Tundra with a 5.7.
    Another complaint by those who trash the Tundra is gasoline mileage, while it is true that mileage is the lowest, the reason is not that the engine is inefficient and needs updating as so many state, it is simply that the rear end is 4.30. This is so much better for towing, but not so much for gasoline mileage.
    Compare this to the Ram 1500 which comes with at best a 3.92 ratio and at worse a 3.21 ratio. Both provides better mileage, but lowers towing capacity.
    Sadly Ram rates the 3.92 at the same towing capacity as the Tundra, but experience has shown this to be not true (either Ram is lying or Tundra is under-rating, in fairness to the Ram, I think the Tundra is under rated)

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HAHA, finally someone else has the brains to figure out the Tundra's fuel economy doesn't have anything to do with technology, but has to do with its geared for towing, not to be an economy soccer mom mall crawler car with an incidental truck bed.
      Toyota I believe is the only automaker that actually follows the towing rating guidelines and many actually were downrated a few years ago and an additional sticker was placed on the door showing the updated lower towing capacity due to add-on features for different package options that were added. Several of the components on the Tundra are actually 3/4 ton rated, the rear axle being one of them, but they downgraded the springs to keep it in the 1/2 ton category. They could easily build a 3/4 or 1 ton truck and I am extremely surprised they haven't done so.
      I was happy with the 08 Tundra I had as far as fuel economy, and plenty of power and if you weren't careful too much power LOL. Great truck except I had rear axle bearing failures and front differential replaced due to the Howl/Growl TSB....sadly 2 years later both issues had resurfaced and I ended up selling the truck with 104k on the odometer. I believe 2012 and newer models they had those 2 issues corrected, but other than that it did everything I asked it to do. I still have my 2005 Tundra with 146k on it with the 4.7L V8.
      I still have my 1988 F250 4x4 supercab long bed with the 460, last I checked it was close to rolling over to the 690k mark and no mechanical issues at all with it, just regular maintenance and the old 3 speed C6 automatic is still going strong. Oil/filter changes every 3k, and transmission fluid changes and filter replacement every 40k.

    I'd love to see a 'frequency distribution' chart of truck longevity by model. Especially the newer diesels vs. the ohv gassers

      Me too! LOL. That would be an interesting chart. Sadly, I don't have the resources to even begin to start building it.
