You convinced me. After a few years of watch collecting I became a sucker for simplicity and comfort. Every complaint I hear about this watch sound like pros to me. No polished surfaces? Good. No date window? Awesome. Boring dial? Less is more. Butt plug hour hand? I'm into it.

I picked up my new Tudor Ranger on bracelet just 3 days ago at Heathrow airport on my way back to the US. With the low British Pound I thought I got a great deal. Wasn't sure I'd love this watch till I got it on wrist. It's great! I heard all the negative about this watch but you have to actually try it on to get what Tudor was trying create. This watch just works.

Was going to buy the BB36 but I’m glad I waited. I put my order in as soon as it was released and I really love the size, simple dial and that touch of red. Love my Ranger, much better than the previous larger version!

I recently had the opportunity to try this on alongside the new explorer, I found the Tudor much more legible and much more true to the field watch aesthetic, the modem explorer totally has an identity crisis with its white gold indexes and shiny bezel, squashed numerals, no longer what it used to be

That's interesting. I'm currently considering an Explorer for my 'everywhere for everything' watch (I tend to travel a lot for work) but may take a look at the Ranger 'in the flesh' somewhere. Thanks

Agreed, I personally own the Ranger. It really is a utilitarian watch so most people may dislike the look and everything about it. On the other hand, the Ranger arguably may fall within a category of an aficionado’s watch - you need to study first then you spend sometime to learn about it and finally you decide to own it.
    Great review!

I ended up buy BB58, because Ranger looks a bit dull for me, but I have to admit Ranger is more comfortable to wear than BB58. It will be a great daily watch for people who prefer to be low profile.

Nice. I said to the Mrs that I’m buying a new watch once she’s back working after maternity leave but didn’t know what to go for.
I was thinking BB58 but recently decided as the Ranger came out the same month our daughter was born (and that I love the Ranger too) it had the right sentiment. Just need to get her back to work now so I can get the cash together!

On a positive note the last year they upped their game with their bracelets so bravo to Tudor.

I bought the Ranger on March 2023 to celebrate a personal milestone which was 10 years in the making, and I had watched your review at that time, kinda confirming I had made the right choice. Funny enough, you were one of the few praising the Ranger for what it was, a great watch built like a tank with an amazing bracelet. nothing fancy, no applied markers, just a very useful, very legible watch.
I have been wearing that watch every single day since March 2023, and I wore it at my Irish citizenship ceremony (10 years living in Ireland).
I still don't understand why people hated on that watch without actually trying it on first.
This watch is all you need. A watch that keeps accurate time.
And no one, not into watches, know what you are wearing, and I love that. Nowadays, they only know about Rolex, and don't even know the relationship between Rolex and Tudor. Just love that discreet trait of this watch.
Anyway, 2 years later I bet you have accumulated so many great memories with your watch and your girl.

Your thoughts are just as my thoughts. For me it hit all the right boxes for me for what I want in a watch. Its just almost perfect and its my dream luxury watch. I am saving up to buy it as soon as am able and will use it for the rest of my life.

I own a Rolex on jubilee with fluted bezel, very nice dressy watch…I’ve been wanting something else to use as my daily and give the Rolex a rest…had no idea what I wanted until I strolled into a local jewelry store and saw the Ranger…I made the mistake of asking to try it on and the rest was history…it’s been over a month and it hasn’t left my wrist…awesome low key quality watch…exactly what I was looking for it turns out.

Thank you for the presentation. You asked for a competitor/alternative, and I can say that after considering this in a shortlist of three (other being an Oris Propilot) I eventually opted for the Longines Spirit Titanium 40mm. I would have settled for any if the other two had not existed, but I'm glad of my choice. They all have their pros and cons, or you could say preferences. The Oris was my preference for the dial, the Tudor on knowing what you're getting, and the Longines overall on points.
A mention on style: Their could be little between what constitutes a Field or a Pilot watch, but the Longines put a greater share to elegance and style - that and other considerations won me over. It also helped that I got it for a lot cheaper. On accuracy, had it for just over a month, just doesn't want to deviate more than 4 seconds away from zero no matter what I do or the position I rest it overnight.

Even though it’s gotten a lot of hate, I happen to dig the new Ranger, as well. Great choice getting it on bracelet too! I think it’s funny how some think that any Tudor that has smiley text and a rose on the dial, that it makes the older Tudors better than the current ones, but text aside (I do love the rose logo better than the shield), this new Ranger beats the old one in almost every other way. I love simple field watches such as the Ranger because they are so versatile, and as is the case with most watches in the field watch genre, they are wonderfully sized and are so comfortable compared to divers or mechanical chronographs, for example. I do wonder why the current Ranger isn’t as thin as the Black Bay 58’s though, given that they share almost the exact same case design, but 12mm is reasonable, nonetheless.
Also, a great competitor to the Ranger is the Sinn 556. I think it is almost as good as the Tudor in every way except for maybe the differences in the movements (Sinn has Selitta, Tudor has Kenisse). The Kenisse movements are fantastic. My Black Bay 58 with the Kenisse movement runs at around -0.5 per day.

First of all, congratulations for your child! Well, and regarding to your review, I gotta say you nailed it. As a proud owner of this Tudor Ranger, man, its great in all aspects, but is not all perfect. In addition to the things you said, the lume is one of the weakest things that it could’ve been improved as a field watch…is adequate dont get me wrong but other companies for less have better lume. Apart from that, this is a keeper for me and it represents many accomplishments in my life so I’ll keep making history with it!!

Congrats on the new baby and the new puke proof watch! Nice review. I am waffling about getting a new watch. This recently landed on my radar. Will have to go and see one live. Curious about something a little off topic. This vid is the second or third i have seen recently where the wearing of nice watches in London being a potential issue was mentioned. Is London that risky now? What about having a basic camera around one’s neck? I am thinking about travelling there in the spring. Thanks for any input.

I’m not a collector and I personally love this watch. I think the printed dial is perfect to go with a fully brushed finish. It looks like exactly what it should be. Perfect size too. One day, if the market keeps trending in my favor, I am going to get a Rolex Explorer 39 for a more formal option, but not too much for me like most watches. I will have those two a for life. The Ranger will be the everyday watch for sure. I’m not one to see it as a poor man’s Rolex, it’s its own beast.

Good review of a great watch . . . I've been trying to find one (on a bracelet) here in Vancouver over the past couple of months and not only have the ADs not got any but they have no idea when they'll be getting any. One suggested I put down a deposit but I asked them why I'd do that when they couldn't even give me a rough delivery date! It seems that there aren't any in Canada . . . apart from on eBay where they come in from Japan and the USA at inflated prices.

  • @originalboondi
    @originalboondi ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not actually an in house movement. Quote from caliber corner regarding this movement. "MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT”
The MT5402 is another movement that some label as an in-house movement, but Tudor themselves refer to as a manufacture movement. Even more confusion comes about due to the fact that calibers such as the MT5402 are manufactured by Kenissi (not exactly Tudor), but Kenissi is owned in part by Tudor (Chanel being the other part). This just means that the movement wasn’t 100% designed and produced entirely by Tudor itself, but and outside supplier - that happens to be owned by Tudor."
Save yourself 2k and get a San martin Sn0107. Ok it has a lesser clasp, but it does come with an in house "Manufacture movement" built completely in house by Seiko. It also comes with an applied indices version, and, where the lume colour on the hands actually matches the indices.
Don't get me wrong, but I compared both in the hand at the same time and I really don't see what the extra £2200 gets you.

I can agree with everything you said about the Rangers, with one exception. Apparently the availability is not so good after all. I myself have been waiting for the watch at my dealer's for more than half a year, although I was on waiting list No. 2 when I ordered it. If I were to order the watch today, it would be even worse, as the waiting lists at the Tudor ADs are at least in double figures. Anyway, fortunately grey market prices are not (yet) as disproportionately high as for Rolex models.

Love this watch and was super pumped about it when Tudor announced it. It is like they read my mind and designed my perfect watch. My only complaint was that it is 39mm, I'd really like to see this exact watch in a 36mm. I talked to my wife about it and we decided to not move forward on buying one because of the size. I prefer 36mm watches and she is 4'11" and 89 pounds so she has dainty wrists. 39mm is just too big for her to wear tiny wrists and my only rule for buying expensive watches is that she gets to wear them too when she wants, which is understandable! It is her money too! San Martin came out with their homage of it and they released a 36mm version that I got a few days ago. We both absolutely love it and I don't see it leaving my wrist anytime soon. It is absolutely amazing for the price. To anyone watching this video that doesn't have the luxury to be able to afford luxury Swiss watches, I highly recommend checking out San Martin on Ali Express. This is my first San Martin watch and the finish and bracelet are on par with some of my watches pushing the same price as this Tudor. They get 5 stars from me and a gleaming recommendation!

@@Divine-IQ the Railmaster is just a better watch spec wise, but that does not mean I don't like the Ranger. You really have to see the different colors on the Railmaster's steel dial depending on the light. I got a great deal on my Railmaster through Chrono24 from a Japanese AD and had to go for it. The Railmaster's bracelet is high quality, but the lack of on the fly micro adjust is a bummer. I wear the watch loose on the bracelet to accommodate for wrist swelling. But I am itching for the Ranger. I tried one in Manila a few months ago and really liked it.

Spot on and I forgot to mention that about the North Flag, seems Tudor have a new thing to keep rinsing.

I like some aspects of it, I get why the dial looks like it does but it comes across as looking a bit cheap to me.
Congratulations to you and your wife James🎉

I always need a date window on my watch, the ranger and the new blackbay 39 are the only two that made my bucket list.
Might go with the ranger for it's versatility

an oyster prince was worn in 1952, the north flag appears then the ranger. what a mess. It looks a bit like a painted explorer if you squint.

why does it need to be either boring or truly special? so many shades of grey in between. IMO this is a great watch. clean, simple and beautiful, that's all.

If only the Timex was built like this lol, fair enough but I'd highly recommend a Hamilton Khaki Mechanical for an affordable field watch.

This watch is simple and boring in the same way the railmaster is simple and boring, or the Sinn 556. It flies under the radar and is entirely purpose built. Nobody will ever ask how much it costs and if you scuff it up you’ll never feel bad. I think it’s a win!

I like the old one better, personally. The new one is… boring, whereas the old one less so. I own the old and may be a bit biased.

For those hesitant to fork out 3k for a Tudor Ranger, blow 80 bucks on a Pagani PD1751, you will get a bit of a "taste" of a Ranger. A great looking Chinese homage. After wearing it for a couple of weeks I am convinced my first proper Luxury Watch will be the Tudor Ranger.

If you really want a Rolex. Save up for it. You buy these "Substitute" watches that look like a Rolex. Yet still doesn't make you feel complete. Well more than likely you'll fall into that pit of Regret. Sad but True. I see plenty of people go through that especially when they "Want it Now". That entitled mentality often leads people like that to some pretty poor decisions.

Both tudor & rolex have lost all luxury,i guess people are too afraid to wear anything that actually looks expensive.
