I deal with these mothers in DR by cancerlling immediately. I use DiDi service here in Santo Domingo but as soon they ask if I have cash or where am I going I cancel immediately and there is an option for cancelling if they asked you for more cash or a different payment form and no charges are incurred when you cancel immediately as soon as the ask for more money or cash.

I took so many Uber rides this month in Santo Domingo and I never had a problem. But when I go back, I’ll definitely look out for this. Thank you.

Great video. Especially with them just accepting the ride and sitting and not canceling. I been living in DR for 3 months now and use Uber 3-4 times per day, the only time I have experienced Uber drivers asking for cash is when you are in Boca Chica and you request an Uber back to Santo Domingo. I thought it was a scam however it was explained to me that the trip from Santo Domingo airport into Santo Domingo is about 1200 or more pesos however the trip from Boca Chica Beach to Santo Domingo, which is further, the app only gives them 800 pesos minus whatever Uber takes. These are estimates but pretty accurate. So this is why they say it’s an error in the app and they do not want to take rides for that cheap. The only other time this happens is if your ride is going outside of Districto National in the nighttime. They request more money and it is negotiable. Obviously, this is not how the app was designed to work but welcome to the DR. 😂
P.S: I also have heard of someone being robbed through inDrive. Absolute great video. 💪🏾🇩🇴

One thing I have learn about traveling is one must have a native contact in each country. You get through much red tape when you visiting the country and have a friend that lives, speak, and knows the culture.

This happened to me when I was in DR as well. My Uber driver wanted me to cancel the ride and pay in cash. I paid in cash and reported him to Uber after my ride. The money for the cancelation was immediately refunded. The bottom line is these countries are struggling so much financially that I don’t even want to visit them anymore. I am currently in Colombia and I hired a driver and I don’t even use Uber.

The fact is that that the app companies are scamming the drivers and the passengers, I am just quite doing Uber here in the states cause in the beginning was very good to drive for these companies cause it was 80 % of the fare for the driver and 20% for the app company and now is the apposite , sometimes you feel like we are just getting pay to put gas in the tank and this is what people don’t understand that app companies are inflating the prices with surges and shit trying to get the most from the riders and pay a little to the drivers , if you are going to the dr I would recommend to just negóciate the price with the driver , inflation is here everything is expensive let’s be fair one to another , sometimes the app companies , don’t have a balance on prices and today you can be paying $20 or $15 for almost 30 minutes drive and out of the $20 -$30 drivers in getting less then half so , same ride you would be paying about $40-$50 to a taxi which is the real cost , everything is expensive now and we can’t be driving and for free and that is how it feels like sometimes for the drivers , next day app companies can me charging doble of or triple of wha a taxi would charge and drivers are just getting paid less them minimum wage , let’s say you are paying $100 for a ride and you happily paid that to the app and the drivers are getting that money but the truth is that the app companies are pocketing that money and drives may get About $20

I don't get it, people pay a ridiculous amount of money in the US to use Uber and you go to other Countries to nickel and dime the uber and taxi drivers? I travel frequently to DR and South America and I never have any issues with drivers.
You need to keep in mind that Uber is taking between 50%- 60% of the rate you're paying and this drivers are trying to make a living..
Instead of wasting each other's time why don't you just throw in a couple of 100's (less than $4 dollars) and watch him go the extra mile for you as happy as peanut butter on jelly.
Some foreigners got a bad rap that they don't tip that's why they get the second tier treatment.
I'm not advocating for this drivers, but calling it a scam is a bit far fetched..
Stay safe on your travels and enjoy the Caribbean life👍💪
