    The references to the laws of the game has made this segment so much better than in the past where this had a "lets share our opinions about the calls and all are equally valid" type feel. Fans can actually learn why the calls are the way they are and appreciate the difficult job of a referee rather than react to their feelings about the plays. This matters especially for youth soccer where refs have to put up with a loud entitled parents who know even less about the rules than their own kids.

      Completely agree, and thanks for possibly suggesting a 'special You Tube VAR video FOFA rules on these typical situations, Anderson. I tried to alert, in vain, ESPN etc. during last/recent Euro 2020.
      We all know that humans don't have 'eagle's eyes', despite the official top games referees and linesmen/women are regularly trained with hundreds of hours for dissecting and quickly
      ... 'autopsy'-deciding on those situations. Tough job! That they also over their hearing plugs get the (sometimes late alarm) help of their other specialist colleagues in the dark room, confirm, and truly show, the role of good VAR multi angle cameras in football, and possibly the best tool and renovation in human 'soccer' history. Yeah, a history that contains, among others, 'The Hand of God' by Matadona, and the 1966 Wembley's Final, a highway robbery technically, some 55 Yeats ago. Let put them to rest, just water under the bridge now.. Amen. ;=)
      It's just a game, a Beautiful one.
      Kandahar and Kabul, and/or 'No Panic on the Titanic' are much, much more ugly and "real" now.

      I agree. Whether these rules are good ones or not is a different one. And there is no room for interpretation.
      Wow, Montreal's penalty taking is, even with the slight encroachment by the keepers, woeful.

    • @kyledarling1236
      @kyledarling1236 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keeper should be able to move as soon as the whistle is blown imo. We're already grossly disadvantaged in the scenario and the line rule has to be the icing on the cake.

    • @kyledarling1236
      @kyledarling1236 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Victor van Doom Race to the ball? Keeper would then be chipped because the taker would know to adjust their distance for the new rule, effectively forcing the keeper out for an easy chip. The meta would be for the keeper to close at least a 3ft gap from the goal line or yes to attack the ball if the taker is 20ft away. It's a penalty tradeoff, plain and simple. Their far away? Jump onto the ball. Up close? Close the gap enough to where reading and reaction saves are more doable.

    In terms of the official rules, I have no issues with the outcome of that crazy penalty situation with NYRB. But, it’s really crappy that a player can stutter so much that he essentially comes to a complete stop, and the goalkeeper then is penalized for assuming the last second stutter won’t happen and coming a small step off his line. The stutter step should be outlawed, or a keeper coming off his line should not be penalized if the kick taker doesn’t maintain a fluid run up and kicking motion.

    • @mintphysicaltherapy9148
      @mintphysicaltherapy9148 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I like this take. If the kick taker does stutter step then the goal keeper is not penalized. That would be a good fix to PKs. Or just get rid of the stutter step. The kick taker is already at a huge advantage. The stutter step feels like cheating. Let’s get rid of it.

    If VAR is going to be that hard on goalkeepers, then they need to have a camera showing the 18 to see players entering the box before the kick. I am sick of seeing one sided reviews on adherence to the rules. Also, NYCFC should get red cards just for playing at their rival's pitch.

    That "Leg on the line" rule is not fair to the goalkeepers, if you have to stand on the line then the kicker shouldnt be able to do a slow walk, jump or any other bs they do before kicking. It is only fair. I don't get why the kicker gets all the advantage

    I agree the 1st Cascante tackle was a red, the 2nd was a joke. The offensive player kicks the ball past him and flops so easily when Cascante 'pulls' back on him. Aside from the fact it was offside, it was a clear flop. The VAR protocols are a joke when it comes to 'clear and obvious' error in regards to diving. To have VAR say it's a dive, there has to be 0 contact. Dives can have contact, it's a joke that it has to be no contact for the ref to consider a dive.

    Why does the referee use a on-field Review for the penalty retakes? Thats a factical decision as the VAR protocol says and so it would be enough, if the VAR just communicates to the ref to let retake the pen. That would be so much faster. Same with the offside calls.

    These tackles where a player extends himself beyond control and gets his leg stomped, kicked, or twisted is as much the reckless endangerment of oneself as it is for opposition. Much like where the player was unlucky that his knee was caught in a follow through (which I disagree as unlucky since there was certainly no expectation of being able to launch a ball downfield in a clogged middle), when two players stretch for a ball and either one of them gets hurt its on themselves.

The “could have resulted “ mantra is so sad. For years English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish (both of them) football was hard but fair. Sadly years ago FIFA started inferring with the domestic game. Refs were told to ref the continental way or your never get to ref EUAFA /FIFA matches. Jimmy Greaves a great footballer, said he no longer liked football because the lack of contact. The interpretation of dangerous play is now at such a low bar. Just a few thoughts from a guy who loved football ⚽️
