Thanks to the professionalism of the RNLI Lifeguards (Penwith) on Porthminster beach army officer Colin Prentice’s life was saved. Barely conscious and suffering from a severe bleed to the brain, he was able to receive almost instant emergency medical aid and airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Truro.
In recent weeks Colin has slowly but surely made a remarkable recovery and may well be home for Christmas. For their actions that day Lloyd Davies, Yasmin Matthews, Elis Richards and Katherine Woods were awarded The Cornwall Emergency Service Award 2019 at the Landal Gwel an Mor resort on 5 December 2019.
This annual ceremony and dinner was founded in summer 2017 following the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy when the resort got together with the Rotary Club of Redruth to celebrate and recognise the work of all the county’s emergency service organisations.
