    You were spot-on in your analysis of it being an "adrenaline song." The portion you're listening to is what's referred to as the "assault phase" of the song. PAYDAY 2 has a dynamic music system where the music changes depending on whether you're in a stealth or loud heist. The assault phase happens when the game is in full swing and the enemies (police) are flowing in at absurd numbers, where everything is at its most intense. You were also right about the lyrics. There's also a full, traditional, non-techno opera you can find, composed by Simon Viklund, the music composer/creator and one of the VAs for PAYDAY 2. It's fantastic.

      The traditional opera version is called Ode All'Avidita and you can find it on youtube. It was made for one of the trailers in Payday 2 (Big Bank Trailer), sadly to my knowledge it doesn't play in game (barring the usage of mods)

    The lyrics in this version are the last part of a much longer song composed by the same composer for the game, Simon Viklund. That version is just a straight up opera piece and goes by the same name, Ode to Greed (Ode All'Avidità).
    You were more or less spot on with your interpretation. It basically tells the story of a man so obsessed with wealth that he is lamenting the fact that, as he is about to die, he can't take his riches into the afterlife with him. As everyone is equally empty-handed in death.

    I like that you're absolutely not afraid to dip your feet into unfamiliar territory when it comes to music. Granted, this was a pretty cool song, too. The subtitles are a nice QOL thing by the way. I also like how you cut in examples of your own singing to better showcase what you mean when you're trying to explain certain techniques in the piece. Keep this format, it's good.

    Payday's soundtrack best characteristic imo is how dynamic it can be
    Since you can play almost any track on any job, almost all of them have four stages, stealth, control, anticipation and assault, with the stealth exclusive ones having a quick ~30 second segment for the point of no return
    Stealth is self explanatory and it can either go hand in hand with the rest of the track or be completely different
    Control is the segment that triggers when the alarm goes off for the first time, regular patrol cops start to show up and you can hear chatter on the radio, some of the units you'll be fighting start to get deployed which vary on the difficulty you're playing. If you've secured hostages, the control phase will be longer and you can hear as command hesitates to approve the assault due to this
    Anticipation comes after control and plays in between assaults, usually staying very much in the same wave length as assault
    Finally there's assault, usually the longest part of the entire track that goes all out in whatever style the composer (usually Simon Viklund) is going for
    That's why there's such a strong sense of progression in much of its tracks, it's just really well executed with how it works in tandem with the gameplay

    @ItsDaKoolaidDude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    It's also an implication in both opera's "I'm dying and none of this wealth is coming with me" and the game's implication of "just how great does your greed outweigh your sense to cut and run with what you have"

    Ode to Greed was one of my favorite soundtrack for payday while playing. Never thought i would see payday 2 on the channel, all the payday 2 songs are bangers and each are all unique. Hope you'll get some more song request from it.
    Edit: forgot to mention the godly composer *Simon Viklund*

  • @NiiRubra

    So for some gameplay context, in Payday 2, naturally, it tends to be about all of these heists, they are very varied in nature, from simple robberies of local banks, to stealing priceless art stolen from other countries by a private military contractor (a bit of a Robin Hood in that one perhaps?), to extravagant heists the likes of which tend to be central to heist movies.
    These heists can be carried out in two ways, they can be done covertly, with all of the clever trickery and acting and coordinated planning that goes in such things, or they can be done in an aggressive way where the heisters forego discretion and just go in taking hostages and such, in which case they have to survive waves of specialized law enforcement. Players tend to be rewarded for taking the former approach, but over the course of a heist things can go awry and it can turn into an action sequence, and sometimes it is worth it to push through it to complete the heist, you know, just finish what you're doing, get the money, let's go before things get worse. The music, of course, fits these "modes" of play, with it being more tense for the heist part, and more grandiose when the characters are just trying to make it out of the place alive with what they stole.

    It's a shame Electonic/Opera mix is not a genre itself. The song features in a mission called the Big Bank and you seemed to of captured it well with your process. that final C note usually plays when a mission is entering a slow point where you can reload and heal up.
    I love the working feel to the beat, it feels a little industrial, the opera takes it to a new level of awesome. I fell I'm love with this song and I love the mix of the electronics and opera it blew my mind when I first experienced it. I called it bouncy opera.

  • @elchjol2777
    @elchjol2777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Yes my favorite track. Now I might be wrong but I only remember the opera singing appearing when the heisters are on the back foot. So I've come to associate it with the law closing in when everything has gone wrong. Almost like the singing is in opposition to the more electric elements of the tune,just like the law enforcement officers are opposing the heisters. And when the singing is heard,the law has got the upper hand.

    Payday 2's soundtrack is great. The dynamic nature of it is implemented so well. When playing it during an 'Assault' phase, I could always tell when the next wave was about to kick in because the soundtrack would start building to a massive drop.
    One of the voice actors has recorded an entire Payday-themed Christmas album. In character. 'A Merry Payday Christmas', it's called.

    Really love him to react to more Payday 2 OST songs.
    But their are just so many, it could just be a mini-series.
    Its important to also understand, Each payday song has 4 sequences:
    1] Intro
    2] Buildup
    3] Intense loop
    4] Cooldown
    Then their is things like the "Bridge" which can be placed between 1 and 2 as well as 3 and 4. This is because as a FPS game, the music needs to be fluid, so this bridge leads into the next phase.
    Each sequence has its own meaning:
    Intro] Stealth and preparing
    Buildup] Things gone loud, ready for the wave of police
    Intense loop] All out war
    Cooldown] combat has stopped or died down, often for the police to regroup.

    • @kekgaming420
      @kekgaming420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      inside the game, each song is split into 4 parts, stealth, control, anticipation, and assault. it starts in stealth, and if things go loud it instantly goes into control without any bridging, and heads into anticipation when the wave is about to start, and into assault when it does. then, when the wave ends, it goes into control and repeat. from stealth, to the control-anticipation-assault loop

    I don't think opera singing in videogames happens too frequently, which is a shame. Although I remember two particular games with it and those are Parasite Eve and Spyro: Ripto's Rage. PE has an introduction scene/area that happens in an opera house showing a partial scene before the plot starts and Spyro's final boss fight had an opera singer in it, which makes the confrontation more epic. You should listen to those if you have the time.
