I'm running Nitto Ridge Grapplers 295/70R17 which are slightly larger than 33". I have really enjoyed the 4.56 gears as it no longer downshifts at the slightest uphill. I have lost 1-2 MPG on the HWY, but well worth it in my opinion. My last trip to Colorado I think I averaged 16-17MPG most of the way there.
@@FJCruiserChannel Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, really appreciate it. I'm in the process of building my FJ and not sure what gears and tires I should go with, 4.56 or 4.88, 33s or 35s?? Any help and advice you can do is much appreciated. Great job on the fj keep the great videos coming, thanks again.
@@markmiguel3350 I guess it all depends on where you live, what you plan to do with your FJ, how much driving you do on a daily basis, and how much you care about gas $$. For me, 33's are large enough for most typical off-road duties, and still a pretty good daily driver. 4.56 is a good match for 33's, but if you decide on 35's then maybe not. Only you know what you want from your ride. Definitely more torque and power with 4.88, but your gas will suffer. Maybe that is no big deal for you. I know it is a hard decision to make... I went through the same struggle. I decided on 4.56 because I knew I had many years of riding on 33's and I'm not consumed with the urge of going to 35's. Frankly, I think 35s look way too big for the FJ on 2.5 or 3 inch lift. Not sure any of this helps, but whatever decision you make, you will be happy... I promise. As long as you are true to what you want out of your FJ, you will be happy.
Way cool. Has been a while since I took my FJ out, awesome video guys.
Going to Big Bend next week. I will post a video of Black Gap!
What size tires are you running and how's the 4.56 drive and what's your average mpg with the new gears?
