When you were putting it together, I literally said "oh no, Rus failed! That's not a copycat. That's WAY better!" lol...And then you both said the exact same thing.
Fantastic looking sammich, buddy
Haha Justin! Last time I bought a McRib I could barely get it down, but doing this with fresh ground meat really makes a huge difference and no preservatives needed. Thanks Justin!
Lol hey having worked for McDonald's many moons ago..lol I approve of yours a bunch more..a lot more charecter..the claims don't do as good with making any real crust..so right through the gate you were in the lead..great cook bud

This video makes me happy. It means winter cooking season is near. You guys have flung a cravin on me with that McRib. Homemade is always better. Thanks and TGIF

@@SmokyRibsBBQare you from Mississippi?
Yes I am
@@SmokyRibsBBQ mcrib is a pork product.
@carlosrivas1629 yes I know and that’s why I used pork. What is your point?
I’ve been searching for a video as authentic as I could find . Appreciate your work on this !
Glad it was helpful!
Best and most informative video i have seen in a long time. I'm going to try it!
I made this McRib at home with great success, except I used Smithfield ground pork and ignored the "mold." A fake rib shape does NOT affect the flavor. Easy and DEEEELISHH!! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic!
even went as far as to use the flavor additive, that's commitment to authenticity.
Thanks for this inspiration. I am not a fan of the McRib like so many others but thought what the heck make some at home. Easy enough with store bought ground pork and a Pork Seasoning. Oven heating up now while the patties are in the freezer firming up. I didn't go into the detail you did getting the bumps on the patty but it will work for me. We have a popular sandwich around here called a Hot Dago. It is a sausage patty shaped in rectangular form to serve open faced with a marinara sauce, shrooms, peppers, onions and Mozzarella. Politicians have considered Hot Dago to be derogatory but I've yet to hear of a general public person think so. I want to try that in a closed Sandwich to eat with hand instead of knife and fork like an open faced sandwich. Recipe for the patty is similar to a pork meatball. Shape into rectangle shape put in a hoagie Roll, add peppers, onions, shrooms (all optional) sauce and lots of mozzarella. Would be cool to have you make some for your channel.
Man, you’ve just hit upon my favourite Guilty Pleasure. I don’t even know why I love them so much. I cook and eat so many things that taste much better. But when Mickey-D’s puts out that “Back for a limited time only” notice, you can guarantee that I’ll be in the queue waiting for one.
Thank you so much for this recipe and tutorial! I am looking forward to seeing how the taste of this homemade sandwich compares to theirs.
Your welcome and thank you for watching and the comment!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ I’m a long-time lurker, but this topic moved me to leave the shadows and make a comment.

Nice job. The dextrose is used for weight . Takes a lot of dextrose . Compared to sugar. At hormel, we add 200lbs of dextrose to 6000lbs of turkey meat. Great job rus
So Hormel uses 3.3 percent dextrose in their turkey meat. Dextrose is also used as a preservative as well, but it does offer a bit of sweetness as well. I do know that water is added to most turkeys, hams etc. which also increases the final weight which converts to $$. Thanks for watching Scotty
I’ve never had a McRib but I’ll take a McRus!🤣🤣🤣 great cook Rus!
Haha, thanks Luis!
Mc Rus, i love that! 😂

Dang that sandwich looked great Rus. You did a great job explaining everything. Love the research you do before you put content out. Also that was a great looking tshirt you were wearing in that video.
Thank you Quint! I truly enjoy researching this sort of things. Somethings I learn can be eye opening for sure. Yeah, I'm loving the new shirt Quint, thanks for sending it!

I know i'm late to the party, but this is going to be my weekend grill meal. Thanks! ✌😁
I love making these at home as well Rus.
It's fun and rewarding at the same time. Thanks for watching
Recreated to the specifications.....Dang Rus you went all out! These look tasty. I've never had one but I'd say you nailed this! Have a great weekend Bud!
Thanks for checking it out Rob! I appreciate it as always!
I make these every year (sometimes twice). Here's my technique: I use a food processor, and lately I've been doubling the recipe to 4 lbs - half chicken thighs and half pork shoulder (or country ribs), water, sugar, salt, any spices you think might be good (garlic, onion powders, paprika, pepper, even thyme if you're a madman). The sugar and water and salt are really the only necessities, however. You don't need to mold it like the OG, you can just make oblong patties - slightly larger and thinner than you'd think, as they both shrink lengthwise and expand vertically when cooked. Put the patties on parchment on a large cookie sheet and freeze them solid. Once frozen, you can toss them all in a freezer bag and pull them out individually when you need a quick and easy meal. The only other things you'll need is a skillet, some neutral oil, BBQ sauce, sliced onions, and quality dill pickles (the refrigerated kind like Clausen or Grillo's are the best). Toss the roll in the pan and crisp it up before you fry the meat, and you may want to pat down the patties once they're cooked so the BBQ sticks. It's easy, great after a night of drinking, awesome when you're lit, and way better than the OG McRib. I doubt they're very healthy, but that's not why you're here, is it?
I’m gonna try this Rus,but with regards to the onions I think I’ll throw them in the buns as seasoned onion rings rather than raw
Great video Rus. I'm gonna get me some ground pork and make these. They looked like the real deal. Thanks!
Thanks Troy! Enjoy em when you make em.
i love that someone said its a “mc Rus”, thats awesome! 😊

Thanks Dwayne! Cheers!
I like McRibs, Glad you showed how to make them !!!
Easy peasy Gary. Hope you give em a try. Thanks!
This was a fantastic copy cat Rus! I definitely think yours is much better than the real one! Have to try this out. Thanks for sharing, cheers brother 🍻
Thanks, and I hope you do try them. Pretty sure it will surprise you. Cheers!
The McDonalds McRib over rated. It was AWESOME when it first came out but has gone downhill and way overpriced since then. Can't wait to try this out. Thank you for this video.
Totally agree! Thanks for checking it out!
so interesting the rosemary extract being used as a preservative. the sandwich looks soooooo good.
This kinda stuff interest me for some reason LOL. I've always looked at preservatives as some sort of unhealthy chemical based product, so I was a little surprised to find out the antioxidant properties of rosemary and completely natural, or at least natural before it's processed into a powder . Thank so much, I appreciate it!
exactly. I would have never thought of rosemary extract as a preservative. I was totally surprised. I guess everything is a science 😊
I used Rosemary and it actually translated well into that distinct flavor.
Awesome video Rus, The McRib is a seasonal product...but we can have them year-round now...thanks to Smoky Ribs BBQ. Nice job on researching the BBQ sauce!..I don't know what's better this McRib or suckin' on a Chili dog??? 😂✌🏼
Your exactly right NBL! You can have them anytime you want and better tasting. LOL @ suckin on a chili dog
Hi Rus I hope you’ve been well. That sandwich looks much better than McDonald’s one ☺️ awesome seeing you again
Hi Angie, thanks for stopping by, good to hear from you. Thanks, I appreciate it!
I just use the On-Cor brand pork rib patties with a decent BBQ sauce. It's quick and easy with very little cleanup.
They bring them back every November, since the mid 1980’s.
I enjoyed this. Thanks for all your research and work to show off this copy recipe.
Rus, I thought everyone old enough to remember the 1990’s had a George Foreman grill that would cook them on both sides at once!
Yeah they have been doing that for a long time. Your welcome Lew and thanks for watching! I can’t remember but doesn’t the George Foreman grill have raised grids like a panini press? McDonalds presses and the one I own, are flat plates, but just a cast iron skillet would work good for cooking these
@@SmokyRibsBBQ yes they do, have raised ridges except for a few upscale models that were flat. you are right, even so I still think it would cook those rib patties.
@@BigLewBBQ I'm sure it would to
This Mcrib looks awsome
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
Great video, those looked great. Have a great weekend.
Thank you! You too!
Love this video oh were can I buy that mold
I ordered mine from Etsy
I'm definitely making those. Homemade is always better. 😎👍
Heck yeah Jack, give it a try. I had a lot of fun doing these. Fresh homemade is definitely better!
Beautiful Mcribs
Thank you!
This was awesome! If you want a challange for the next one...look into Taylor Ham (PORK ROLL). Ya got meat grinding, smoking, fermenting... and not many have done it! :)
Thanks, I will look into that. Cheers!
Your sandwich Rus looks fantastic
Thanks Sheena, I appreciate you!
One for me, one for the Mrs. And I'm set!!
The mad scientists of bbq. 😁 Awesome job bro.
Hahaha Scott! Not sure about that but I do appreciate it!
I live in Germany and we have McRib here all the year. It is not a seasonal on-off product, there.
However, when i do my variation of McRib, i take (left over Baby Back) Ribs. Take out the bones. Shape them in size (sometimes i shred them) add sauce, add pickles and add diced onions. I can tell you, there is no need to get one from McDonalds if you can make it that way.
Yes, I have a older video from 7 years ago and I called it a boneless rib sandwich because that's exactly what it was and it tasted like a real deal BBQ sandwich. I didn't call it a McRib copycat because it wasn't. On this video I purposely wanted to get as close to the real McRib as I could and I must say it's very very close, and actually better because of fresh never frozen ingredients and no preservatives. Thanks for watching
Great video Rus! I am not a fan of the McRib but that looked like a perfect copycat!! If McDonald's is going to discontinue the McRib, maybe you need to start selling the Rus McRib!!!!???!!! Hi Candice, about time you get on camera again!!
Yeah, I've had a few but not much of a fan, but I will be ordering more of these molds for future family cookouts. This version was really tasty and enjoyable. The McRus haha, I like that! Yeah Derek requested her to try one because she does love the McRib. Cheers brother!
Heck yeah Rus!....it always amazes me you can use the same ingredients as the fast food outlets and the results are always better 😆.... now that when you put your heart into it. Those outlets got heart but it's all 'bout the profits lol 😂😂. Well the your copycat version was properly executed....Cheers!✌️🍻
Thanks for the comment Stephen. Fresh meat is always better than frozen.
Russ, being you did this, the McRib that they usually sell for 2 for $5 or something close, go ahead and start 2 more and I wil be by in a bit to pick em up!! Thanks for the video!😀
Haha 😂 thanks for watching! Cheers!
So tasty looking.
I’m sure that’s better than McD’s. That could be an interesting party meal too; make a batch of them.
Hi Larry! It taste just like a McRib, but a delicious McRib LOL! Yeah I was just thinking I want to buy 4 more of these molds so I can make up to ten patties just for cookouts and parties. Cheers Larry!
Please explain more about your mold. Maybe a link ??
I found mine on Etsy. Here is where: www.etsy.com/listing/909138660/mcriblet-rib-style-riblet-press-mold?ref=yr_purchases
Great recreation but yours looks much much better and you didn't just throw it on there lol. Great share my friend! Chef John & Rebecca
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
This might be the funniest video ever you recreating this
I don't know about funny, but it sure was fun to recreate this. Thanks for watching!
Yeah rus. This is me placing my order for 2, I'll be at gate 6 waiting for Uber eats😂... great video as usual!...
LOL, you would enjoy them Randy. Thanks brother!
I need me a griddle like that
well, I don't feel like the odd guy, I've never had one of these either. I agree with you looked a sausage patty, that's hot sandwich didn't look bad either lol, great video Rus that defiantly looked great. Thank You
In all honesty, I may have had 3 or 4 them ever, but heck, I'll just make them myself going forward. It's kinda fun to do as well. Thanks Lance!
Lol Id definitely eat one try one but its Mc Ds and BBQ thing
This was great, I love McRibs even though they are kind of strange . I spent a week reverse engineering a Swaanson TV dinner with Salsbury steak a few years ago. Getting the mashed potatoes right was the hardest part
Most of the Swanson dinners with mashed used reconstituted mashed potato flakes. That’s why they are hard to reproduce; you are using real honest to goodness potatoes in yours.
Freeze-dried potatoes may keep you alive but it isn’t Living, let me tell you!
They do give you that “made in the 70s” taste tho.
@@TatewakiGaming Thats what I ended up using along with a blob of the cheapest margarine I could find . And BOOM, it was 1975
@@BradYaeger😂👍🏾
Every time I had the ones from the clown house, I got SICK! I know these rock cuz my awesome hubby made them!
I was just in Louisiana a little while ago but man did I miss the chance to have Beneights
Best beignets are at Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter of New Orleans
How much Rosemary extract do you use if I wanted to add it?
1.5 to 2.5 percent of the weight of the meat
I heard somewhere that the sauce that's is close to the mcrib sauce is hunts BBQ sauce.
Yeah, I heard the author of Top Secret Recipes say that. I couldn't find Hunt's brand BBQ sauce anywhere, but this Wally world brand was very close so all worked out well.
I was never a fan of these, and just don't understand peoples obsession with them. But, I'd definitely give your version a try because yours look way better, Rus!😋👍
I don't get it either Kevin. Something about some of these fast foods that will make people even fight, like the Popeyes Spicy chicken sandwich a few years ago. Usually these food items can't live up to all the hype.
Why don't you use ice to push the last meat thru the grinder?
So easy for any change over and a little crushed ice usually can only help.
I'm not running ice through my blades, nope not gonna happen. Takes 10 seconds to remove it the way I did. Thanks for watching
Might have to try one of these but without the onions and pickles, I have weird taste buds one of the biggest things I think pretty much most the world likes is mustard and that makes me gag because its so disgusting.
That looked like the real deal ...... I wonder who makes the BBQ for WM ..... I might have to look that up .....
McDonalds makes their own sauce from what I found. Thanks for checking it out Boo!
Banquet makes a BBQ rib dinner. The ribs and barbecue sauce are a good match. Just get some buns.
Sounds worse than McDonalds haha
*You Go, Guy, you're very own, McRus, BBQ sandwich!* 🍺
Haha, I should have named it that
@@SmokyRibsBBQ 😂
I got a powerful hankering to try that
Its supposed to be a cornmeal bun. lol And maybe brown sugar can replace the dextrose since its less sweet than sugar.
Yes I know. Could not find them. Sara Lee makes them, but I struck out everywhere I looked. Dextrose is less sweet than brown sugar. It perfectly balanced the salt without adding any noticeable sweetness in the patties
I have missed the mcrib, now I shall never again, homemade all day extra pickle
The only thing that would make these better is more sauce on the buns & fries!
I have done about 8 different searches on Amazon trying to find a mold remotely close to what you used and nothing even comes close. Everything keeps showing burger pattie molds. Can you give a link for it?

The firstMcRib i ever had was in the Summer of 89 was visting Family in another State for the summer . When i got back to my own state the Next day i told my mom about McRib we go to are local McDonald's and ask for a Mcrib the lady taking the order askdd how we knew about the McRib i told i had it she told us it was coming out on so & so date . To me the McRib taste different the first time the took it a way then put it back menu . Subway had a rib Sandwich in 90's i used get the foot long and make just like the McRib maybe that why when McDonald's put it back on the Menu it taste different to me
I've noticed that with other food chains such as Taco Bell. Some of their items that they bring back are different from the first release. I guess they are always trying to cut cost.
Damit another single use item i have to buy for the kitchen, at least the mould for the ribs will be used. Thanks for the video great details, suprised about the walmart sauce but considering micky d's have increased there profit margins to 33% maybe not. Just the image of a micky d's worker tanking into walmart and buying the bbq sauce by the case made me grin.
Last time? How many final tours did the Eagles do.
Nice cooking 😎👍
Thank you so much 👍
@@SmokyRibsBBQ your welcome and good health
👍
DAAAAMMMM
Do you think it would work without the dextrose?
Absolutely it would work without dextrose. I only added it to keep it as authentic as I could.
Down there at the Mackdonalds
Will that mould also work for a Crusty burger Ribwich
It will work any riblet sandwich, even the Simpsons sandwich haha
@@SmokyRibsBBQ Yeah but it won’t taste the same since the insect they made it from is now extinct

Should have used a million McDonald's bbq sauce packs for thr sauce
Right 🙄
The next time you do a cook at maybe a charity event go ahead and do your usual , but maybe on the side make up a mess of these. Then watch peoples faces light up. I would not bypass any of what your known for, I would not want to miss out. I just feel that these would be an unexpected addition. I bet they would be a hit.

This makes me wonder how much a mcrib will cost next time it returns
I don't know, but I don't plan on buying anymore after making it at home. Way better
