    Love these smaller Urgos movements. They are for sure built to last if they are maintained well enough!

    I have a UW32/1A model 127E Ridgeway grandmother clock (Lady Lexington?) that is almost identical but the timing was off. I thought I was going to have to reach out to you, but then found this! My exact problem (well one). SOLVED!!! I still had to tweak the hands, chimes ran 5-10 min late. But now I think it's running right! I'm so happy! I got this at an estate sale and had to buy the weights. You're cleaning kit was a life saver! Never did anything like this before but your videos are invaluable! Thank you! ( sorry I ran on).

    I have a Hermle Grandfather clock with Westminister chime - Hermle 461053 H K 23.
    For a long time it was working well, but then the chiming stopped. I discovered that the chiming drum was turning, but it moved sligtly to the right and didn't catch the hammers. So I put a small spacer in on the right hand side of the chiming drum and then it stayed in position and I could hear the chiming. In the proses I did something, (can't figure out what) and now I sit with a problem:
    It doesn't chime at the 1/4 or the half or the 3/4, but when the minute hand gets to the hour it chimes the 4 notes, the 8 notes, the 12 notes and the16 notes without stopping in between and it will strike once with the 12 notes and then once with the 16 notes and then it stops.The same thing happens on every hour.
    I've spent hours trying to fix it and I watched all your videos, but nothing changed. Do you have some advice for me please?

    Thankyou for such a good demo of adjustment and timing of this movement, very interesting, I 've been working on a British Enfield Westminster clock with the most frustrating chiming gear problems in the train, I have to say this one is my nemesis as it will go beautifully for a day or 2 then BINGO when any of the protrusions on the center arbor activate the warning wheel the gear train all of a sudden develops friction and won't chime, even though I rebushed a lot of pivots in the top of the train, anyhow I will persist until I find the problem, I wellcome any suggestions once again many thanks. Jim from AUSTRALIA.

      You really need to check for a bent pivot or a flat on the pivot or both bent pivot and wobbling gear. You may have to remove the rest of the gear train and work with only the chime gears to find the friction. I hate problems like this. Super Nice to hear from Australia. The Bench Jeweler.

      Did you discover the problem on the gear train, I'm betting you have a very slightly bent gear pivot causing the problem. Just checking to see if your fixed or found the problem. The Bench Jeweler.

      On the hour is the strike off every hour or just at the 5 o'clock hour? The Bench Jeweler.

    I have a 1984 Howard Milley Grandfather clock. It chimes sporadically. The chiming is triggered by a cam (4 lobes) on the main shaft. But that shaft has play in it, and I am 99% sure that play is causing the chiming issue. Is that fixable?

      If the bushing is bad and can be taken apart and a new bushing installed requires special tooling. There is probably more bushing in the gear train that will need to be checked and fixed. Is your clock a cable with a crank up or pull up with chains? The Bench Jeweler.

      @@rhjgold It's a chain drive - Hermle movement . . . 451-050H 94CM pendelum swing. I have gotten estimates for close to 600 bucks to fix. They all say replace the movement . . . . Their quotes are on a movement without the chimes. Yet I can find these movments for 350 or so . . . with chimes. Seems like kind of a waste to ditch the whole thing when it could be rebuilt. But I don't know about clocks. I can rebuild a motocycle engine easily though!

      @rhjgold  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickcasey330 I don't know what the new movements run these days. You don't need the chimes just the movement. We replace or rebuild them for 450 dollars on average, including parts if required. If this is a Grandfather clock you already have the chime rods. I'm thinking you just need to have the clock re-bushed. The Bench Jeweler...Mike E.

    Can you help please. I have an Emperor Grandfather clock with Westminster Chimes that my grandparents bought in like 1972. For a long time it kept perfect time chiming each quarter hour and then chiming the 16 notes on the hour and then striking the hour. I wound it a few days ago and nor for reasons I cannot figure out and cannot find anything on the internet about it strikes the hour at the first quarter hour. For instance at one o'clock it will strike the 16 note chime then stop. at 1:15 it will strike the four notes of the tune and then strike the hour. The chime strike on perfect time but the hour always strikes on the first quarter. What have I done? Can this be fixed? Thank you.

      Darn, it has something to do with the lift arm cam on the strike. On the full hour, the chimes play, and then on the last for notes, the lift arm should come all the way up and trip the strike cam and run the strike chime. So one of the cams is out of line. Without watching the front movement move without the dial on I'm not sure what's causing it.

      Yes, it's not a hard fix but needs someone who knows clockwork. Something in the cams slipped causing the problem. Mike E the bench jeweler.
