- The Meng 1/35 Scale Sd.Kfz 171 Panther G Tank with Air Defence Armor: A Masterpiece in Miniature In this video, I'll show you the process of finishing the iconic WWII Panther G tank from Meng, with special attention to painting and weathering techniques used on this scale model tank. Witness the transformation of this model kit into a stunningly realistic miniature, with an attention to detail that goes into every AFV Studio project.
The Panther was Germany's answer to the Russian T-34
It was an excellent design, but like with most of Germany's 'super tanks' it was over complicated, time consuming and expensive to build.
It could never be produced in the numbers needed to stem the tide of advancing Russian forces.
Issues with reliability, although addressed, could not be fully fixed within its production cycle.
The Ausf G was the last version of this German tank to be produced with production starting in March 1944.
Approximately 2961 were produced up to the factories being captured in 1945 at the end of WW II.
Enjoy the video and please comment and I will try to respond in good time.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing your technique. The results are amazing.

All the encouragement to start again after nearly 40yrs. No doubt the prices will have gone up since the last one i bought was£3:99.😮
🤣 You better get those moths out of your wallet, because its not 1980's prices now 🤣
You know.... what you said in your comment, was me 2 years ago.
If I may, I'll post a link to a great online store here in UK where I get most of my supplies www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/
Yore right there .Not as bad as I thought thought tho. Selected an ISU 152 Tamiya kit from e- bay for £ 44.99. 👍

Can I ask a concern respectfully?
I know you used a commercial stencil for the camo, but don’t the marks look a little too big?
Who’s did you use?!
Of course Gerry. The stencil was from the J'swork Panther 'circle ambush' patten. It may not have been the best choice as I did not replicate the circle patten very well. I did kinda like the effect though
Absolutely fantastic. Could I ask which paint you used on the shells? They look very smooth i.e. no metallic specks visible.
Thanks Steve. The brass paint was Mig Ammo A-Stand Polished Brass (A.Mig 2308). Probably like you, I had about 4 brass paints in my collection that i was never happy with the final result. So for this project I thought i would try a new one out. It is airbrush ready paint. I did use with a brush for the MG belt on top and it worked out great for those small details too.
Thank you for replying, it's very much appreciated. I wouldn't have thought to use a lacquer on such a small item.@@afv-studio

Thank you. That is great to hear👍@@user-qs7wx7kz6p
In real life the grill mesh cannot be covered - the engine would overheat.
Thanks for your comment
Beautiful thing, BUT it seems everyone is Tarp mad these days, a single tarp over the grills and you would have one very overheated Panther engine, a fairly easy task even without the tarp.
Thanks for your comment.
What make of tracks did you use 🤔
I went with the Friulmodel metal tracks. Unfortunately the tracks in the Meng kit are its weakness. It wouldnt be so bad if the guide horns glued in without leaving huge gaps that would need filling and sanding X 170 times. Lifes too short.
Is that piper?
No. The commander here is a Hauptscharführer or senior NCO which was a special appointment given to NCO's that had proven themselves able to command in the heat of battle.
