The Ultimate Build: Meng Panther G Revealed

  • This time I'm building the Meng 1/35 Sd.Kfz 171 Panther G with Air Defence Armor
    I will be constructing and modifying this scale model, adding extra detail into what is already an excellently detailed kit.
    This tank is a great addition to any collection and is sure to impress
    Hopefully viewers will pick up some Tips and Tricks along the way and will get the chance to review the kit before buying.
    The Panther was Germany's answer to the Russian T-34
    It was an excellent design, but like with most of Germany's 'super tanks' it was over complicated, time consuming and expensive to build.
    It could never be produced in the numbers needed to stem the tide of advancing Russian forces.
    Issues with reliability, although addressed, could not be fully fixed within its production cycle.
    The Ausf G was the last version of this German tank to be produced with production starting in March 1944.
    Approximately 2961 were produced up to the factories being captured in 1945 at the end of WW II.
    Enjoy the video and please comment and I will try to respond in good time.
    Thanks for watching.

    Wonderful craftsmanship on this build. However, I do have one nit to pick. You have made this Panther a late one with the exhaust shrouds and the foliage loops on the turret. You also added the additional turret top and intake armor. To my knowledge only one unit in Italy used these additional armor plates and they had only early G's, none of the late G's were sent to Italy due to more pressing problems closer to home. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I've never seen this combination in any photo.

    • @christopherpeavey100
      @christopherpeavey100 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, the crew heater however, though some associate it only with lates, was present on some of the Italian Panthers. There were also though some A's with the additional armor plates as well.

    • @afv-studio
      @afv-studio  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching John and taking the time to comment.
      The tank built was the option of one from the 26th in Italy. It was the only option that had the added armor and did include the exhaust shrouds.
      I'm not saying Meng are right just that i followed their instructions.
      I did however do a little research myself and found that late G's with added armor were used in the defence of Berlin and it turns out Dragon do such a kit. Dragon | No. 6897.
      The Dragon kit has the added loops as well although it does also have the later gun mantlet.
      It is known however, that late G's were being produced with whatever mantlet was available at the factory at the time.
      With all that being said I felt that i wasnt going to be too far off the mark if i depicted this vehicle as a late G defending the homeland.
      I'm not a heavy researcher but i try to do enough to depict a vehicle type from a era within ww2.
      Thanks again and please watch the painting episode when i get it done.
      Im sure you will fall of your seat when you see the camo patten and colours used. 😉
      I'm joking 🤣❤

    Thank you for the good build, but I have a few observations. First, I do not see the fascination with putting tarps on a vehicle, other than one traveling in a peaceful area, because no german tanker is going to have tarps on the vehicle in the heat of battle where it could catch fire and possibly destroy the vehicle. Second, it appears that you modeled one of the last variants of the vehicle with the anti aircraft armor and the flame damping exhaust and yet you used a chinnless mantlet, not impossible but not likely. Thirdly, why would the crew place the "pie" wedges in the configuration you have them in on the heater "tower," not sending the hot air into the vents to the crew compartment, but allowing it to escape at that point, just a few observations.

      I see you're observations and the points you state,they are all correct and valid,but you are rivet counting..and yes that is fun but can be very dull if you are not going for period correct. The idea of doing everything he did is geeat,great, displays many different effects and talents,this also gives others inspiration to do something like that,so both are valid. I myself do like the visual appeal that it brings,and if you.are not being judged for period correct have fun. Great job man. Looks awesome

    Excellent and an enjoyable watch. Amazing attention to detail. Question if I may. I've built a few models recently with photo etch parts and have difficulty finding an adhesive that works. I have ended up using superglue which leaves a white residue on the etched parts. I may have missed it it in your vid, but what do you use please. Thanks for an entertaining video.

    • @afv-studio
      @afv-studio  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      VMS do a black CA glue that works well.
      Also Gorilla glue CA gel is good to have
      To not get residue you need to use CA remover also from VMS use the remover while the glue is still wet around the edges and it will take it straight off without the part falling off,

      Its not necessary to redo welds on this kits. The welds are pretty good out the box. only a little touch up is necessary as seen at 5:17 where you can see a line from the moulding. this could be covered with a little filler.
