my dude you saved my life with this one. just finally bit the bullet and added the angle grinder to my ever increasing tool kit bc of this video and wow. just. thank you.
Thanks for making this video. I just got done sanding a 577 square foot deck that had 3 coats of paint and is 27 years old. Needless to say, paint stripper, pressure washing and hand sanding didn't work AT ALL. I ran through about 7 of the 7 inch 60 grit Diablo disks but it made the job possible. I will say because how thick the paint was the disks would only last about an hour (10 boards), but the results are great. Thanks again for taking the time to share a good tip. 👍
This is a lifesaver! I’ve spent three 10 hour days - pressure washing, paint stripper, scraping and sanding till my hands and back are destroyed. Finally decided I either needed to find a better way or just burn the damn thing to the ground! Thank you for showing me that better way :)
As the disc fills with paint residue, if you hit some steel edges with it, it will clean it out. You can get 1inch thick discs from fastenal by the case of 10 at $5.50 per disc if you ask. Their brand, Bridgestone i believe
@@kscott8464 the flap discs get bound up with paint so I use any piece of iron/steel like a piece of angle iron and grind the edge of it momentarily to clear the packed in paint or acrylic stain from the disc.
Thank you, THANK YOU!! I always try to pass on tips that help to make things easier to do. Thank you for taking the time to make this video & sharing the info on the exact tool & flap disc to buy:)
Well now I know what I'll be using. Have the pressure washer and stripper ready but already knew it would be a task from hell but headed to buy a disk for my grinder now
Man…I was having a horrible time with a belt sander and 40 grit… some dumb a** put at least four coats of concrete paint on the deck before we bought the house…you already know…smh…thanks for the tutorial brother!🤘
Thanks! I have a small deck maybe 6x10 and i went from "let me power wash my deck" to "let's stain it" and now I'm at "wtf with that latex paint that won't come off".
Dude! Thanks for the tip. I was using a wire wheel on the grinder and was aggressive enough to remove the layers of paint and old primer. (That old primer is a bitch to get to get back to bare wood. Bought the layered grinder wheel you’re using and happened to be on sale. World of difference but you gotta be gentle on old wood. Anyway thanks for the short video. Would like to know what you’re going to seal your deck with?
I just discovered this myself after much trial and error. Stripped the paint off my fiance's deck. Went through many different types of discs until I discovered the sandpaper flap ones work best. They last all day whereas the others lasted about 15 minutes. Plus the flap disc's are cheaper.
Thank you I’m in paint hell stripping my deck right now never thought of the flapper. I’m not scared! I’m going in! Belt sanders don’t like pine it seems, all the sappy gunk jams it up and the heat makes the belts die pretty quick. I’m miserable. I now have hope.
I am also team angle grinder for removing paint. Though I think stripping chemical gels are not all bad. They probably won't get 100 percent off. Plus sometimes you only want to strip the deck and not the railing or siding. And I worry about using the stripping gel in that situation
Any suggestions for the base of deck since larger space and orbital sander? This looks like same paint stain I have same color and all and I’m struggling power washer not working.
The angle grinder I bought is 12krpm but the demon disc is 13280rpm. Is this safe or dies the disc need to be less than 12krpm since the grinder maxes out at 12k?
I'm using an 11k rpm grinder with recommended flap disc and its creating circular burn marks...tried keeping super light touch, different angles, movements etc...no change. If I use a lower rpm grinder would that keep the wood from getting burn marks? Hard enough getting the paint off, don't want to have to spend more time getting out burn marks somehow...
Julie, In case you did not see in the comments section...the exact tool to buy for scraping paint or stain off your deck is the Ryobi 4 inch or 7 inch Grinder at Home Depot. You also want to buy the Diablo Steel Demon flap disc. Hope this helped you...
@@webbertools It was not as simple as I thought. I picked up the tool & blade that was recommended at Home Depot, but when we took the original grinder thing off, the Diablo blade would not lock into place. I took everything back to Home Depot & someone helped me in the hardware dept. Because I wanted the guard shield still left on, I was only able to use half of the Diablo steel blade to scrape off the deck paint. That half did work great at removing the paint:) Just make sure you get the EXACT right blade & fit for your sized tool.
That doesn't work on a solid stain trust me I spent 3000 looking for a way to knock that out even tried some butrol nothing worked let alone in a timely manner. And when you have 300 a hr on the click they expect you to go go go go
I'm stripping paint off my deck rails with a 4 inch angle grinder. I bought the paint and rust remover disc. On my 3rd disc, ready for #4. Comes off fast, you're right. It's dirty, dusty work but beats anything else I've tried. I did get some divets in the wood in a few places but took off 3 coats old paint in a snap. Discs are less than $5 each at Harbor Freight, other places want up to $15. I bought one of there $20 grinders, I'll tell ppl not to do that. It over heats and can only run it about 10 min. Get a good grinder. Thanks for the video. I watched it last year and again just now. You've got over 15,000 views!
no, it isn't rocket science, but it also isn't rocket science to understand the lesson he's sharing from the style he filmed in. don't be so mean to helpful strangers!

Bro i i know your pain its all in the disc they do cake up but what they do for you is uncompared to time saved.
Many thanks for the advice. I have just finished stripping 400 sq ft of deck using the Diablo Steel Demon. Excellent results. Way better than sanding.
Thank you for the info in this video.
I have to add that I really like the look of your old deck railing. It fit the house very well.

My guy, I picked up 2 this morning and already see the benefit. Wish I’d seen this yesterday, but it’s all good. Much appreciated.👌
Hell yeah brother
What brand did you purchase?? I'm so excited to try this.
Dude! You saved me with this... Thanks for the info. It worked and cut a BUNCH of time off my deck refinishing job!
Its a game changer i know

What would you suggest between rail spindes??

Can't wait to go to Lowe's in the morning! I've tried everything to get the paint off my porch.
Gald i could help hope you have great success the new yr is around the corner and its should be a breeze just take your time and wear a mask
Angle grinder 7 inch i believe but the litt ome is a 4 to 5 inch grinder

Does this work on textured paint, paint mixed with sand, i believe?
I believe so it pretty much clears away everything
Thanks for sharing. Saved my day.
Excellent video thank you! Now if I can offer you a bit of advice, wear a dust mask. You want to be around to strip more paint for a long time. 😷
Its a simple solution
A life changer - Thank you for sharing!
What GRIT are the wheels your using? 60 grit? 80,,, ?
80 and 60
Not used to these tools so it's just a hand sander?
Thanks
angle grinder. Lowes. Home Depot, etc, all have these tools in various prices.
That hork & spit was all class. Thumbs up.
60 grit, is that sand paper..
Thank youuuuu
Yes it's a sand type disk
Did this today. Was about 10x faster than a belt sander.

Try 36,000 rpm’s next time.
I am beginning to scrap paint off of my deck. Can you give
Me the exact name of the tool you used and the attachment ? I’m a beginner 😊

U showed the Diablo too fast. What kind is it?
It's a 60 grit sand disk
@@dmlandscapedesignllcatlant8093 thx good video!
Just use a gel paint remover. Paint it on with a brush __ scrape it off with a mud knife. Done.

@@dmlandscapedesignllcatlant8093 Yep, I went through the whole gel stripper deal for nothing, except a LOT of lost time and the price of the stripper.
This saved me a 100 dollars
Thank you.
Thank You so much for sharing!!!!
Thanks bro works so good!
Good stuff but wish now that I hadn’t watched to the end…. ICK!
That was raw and unedited.
By the way its a 4 inch grinder not 7 inch also that was a solid stain not paint which comes off way easier
