    The reason for that 4000 set on the MCP is that’s the missed approach altitude. We set that at the Final approach fix after we cross check the far crossing altitude. Basically that’s the altitude we going to initially climb to in the event of a missed approach.

      Whats a 'far crossing altitude '? Can you not set the missed approach altitude and heading after glideslope capture? When is the earliest those can be set?? Maybe when less than the missed approach altitude? M

      @subsoar5734 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He meant FAF, or Final Approach Fix crossing altitude, if I'm not mistaken. Once you put the airplane on approach mode and it joins the glideslope that supersedes any selected altitude set in the MCP, so you just set the next appropriate altitude. @@markcardwell

    Years ago, I was flying (pax) into ORD from some departure city in the East. The time of year and conditions of this video remind me of it. Somewhere still over Lake Michigan, it felt as if the pilot dialed in the glide path perfectly as we just gradually descended on idle engine power at a constant rate until touchdown. Straight course, steady descent rate. I've never experience that kind of landing before or since and I have traveled the planet many times. I will miss the 757.

    • @Primus54

      I’ll miss it, too. Boeing’s big mistake in not continuing with this marvelous aircraft in favor of constantly adapting a 60s design in the 737. There is nothing like a takeoff in a 757.

Boeing needs to work on building quality aircraft such as these again . .wow .. my mother retired with Boeing in Everett Wa. in 94 circa . i used to work for a sub contractor in early 90's also .. better times back in those days for Boeing .. they have to improve their quality and safety systems now . sad to say their image is tarnished

    Very interesting....no minimums, no callouts until they got the 50.....was this because it was a visual approach? When you fly a visual in by hand, are the other earlier callouts disabled?

    • @flying9249
      @flying9249 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      depends on the operator. at alaska there are NO auto call outs. you wouldnt even hear 50 etc. its all operator specific as boeing is very cheap.

    • @kevindigo22
      @kevindigo22 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@flying9249,,,thanks, I never realized that about the call outs but it explains why you see so many different variations in call outs in the videos on here. I would say the airlines that go for the bare bones avionics to save money are cheap...and potentially unsafe. The MCAS on the Max 8, now that was definitely Boeing's fault for offering a "cheaper" option without redundant sensors, but really was due to the fact they totally screwed up their hazard analysis of the design.

    Touch down zone? What’s that? Ahh that’s right, it doesn’t matter to “professional aviators.” The landing itself wasn’t too smooth, either. Not surprising in today’s hiring climate. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @prorobo
      @prorobo  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @V1AbortV2 now I typically ignore troll comments like yours but this one I have to interject.
      First, that landing WAS in the touchdown zone (barely). The 757-300 is a bit of a pig to grease because of its length and tailstrike threat. You obviously have zero experience with ORD where even greased landings are ruined by terrible runways. That kid who landed is flying for a US legacy while in his 20s and will retire a multimillionaire.
      I just posted one of my 757-300 landings from back when I was on the fleet for you to dream about while playing flight simulator living in your mom’s basement.
