5:23 they also overtook on double solid lines, which isn't allowed. For this very reason.
I had traumatic open book injury in high school when the teacher made us read "War and Peace"... ba-dmp-tsss...
The genius "ba-dmp-tsss" 👏 if there was a correct spelling 😂 that was it
With the near-encounter with the deer 11:35 in just a few seconds he safely dropped 10MPH and in another few seconds he was down from 55 to 37, it just shows how much control you can have in ideal conditions if you're being responsible and paying attention and how little difference there is between a fun day on the bike and a life changing event.
I got my bike, took a class, and got my endorsement! Still have something to wrap up but I'll be riding soon. Watching DanDan's training videos a ton to know what to practice.👍I appreciate these videos a ton so I can know what situations to watch for.
Open books can also happen with your feet up on the dash of a car, among other things.
The crash at 5:00 could have been easily avoided if the rider had taken note of the solid double white lines in the middle of the road meaning no overtaking
it's driving me crazy listening 😂 they are going hecka fast, and passing at the EXACT point that a No Passing Zone begins 🤦🤦♂🤦♀
The guy on the blue sport bike should have gotten closer to the car in front of him before getting over. He would have seen that car and appropriately waited for a safe moment. You can typically always catch up. That was scary....😢
Hey Dan love the content, personally I am in aviation as both a pilot and a safety role, oddly enough your view on motorcycles and the responsibility/vigilance is extremely close to what we exercise as pilots. Recently got trained to apply first aid, torniquets/packing wounds primarily and I am soon to be CPR certified, love your content. Don't have a bike as of yet but am definitely planning to get one soon. Keep it up!
13:50 "Deer Couldn't it make it, we hit the deer, Oh Deer!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad we barely have any deer in the UK, they are a nightmare. It's like they wait around just to jump in front of you on purpose
As soon as I saw the guy postured I was screaming at my phone to call 911 and don't touch him. The fact that he was conscious shortly after is less worrying but he absolutely 100% needs a hospital. Anytime you fall unconscious or tense up after a head injury, you need medical attention immediately.
So at 14:43 , I live in that city area, in the Netherlands. The motorcyclist is actually on the wrong lane - this lane is only for busses and taxis, he's not allowed to be there... There's another lane on the far right, but that's only for bicycles and scooters. Motorcycles and cars go on another road behind the buildings on the right....so he's totally in the wrong area to drive.
Thanks for all you do...I always learn a lot...Peace.
This guy in the car around the 9:30 mark did not just wake up that morning and break bad. The first thing out of his mouth was " I can drive like an a**hole too". And guess what? He's right. If you are going to ride like you own the road, someone is going to prove you wrong. What he did was wrong, but we 100% did not see what started this and I guarantee from the way that little snot was screaming, they started it. I've been riding and driving for way too long to buy that bs. Let's see the rest of it so we have some context.
LOL, he had to take a dump. I was crying! hahahhahaha. And licking the car?? What is that, man?
Good stuff as always, Dan. I wish you would link to the original video in the description though, save us some searching if we want to watch the whole thing :)
Love your channel. Been riding on the streets since the 80s and your channel has eliminated any desire to ever wear a peanut ever again. Even bought riding pants for the first time.
5.28 no mention of double lines Dan . Great analysis .
G'day Dan, something I would like to point out about having your phone mounted to your bike. If you're a solo rider and have an accident? If you are separated from your bike and are unable to get to your phone to call 911 or 000 here in Australia due to injury You can't get help. I use 2 phones. I have an old phone on my quadlock which is used for gps speedo and navigation. My other phone is in my pocket so it's accessible for me to call emergency services if required . Here in Australia it only costs $2 for a sim card. Food for thought. I use card'os on my helmets but they can easily be damaged or removed due to impact. Cheers.
My anxiety level when watching your videos 📈
Did a 14h ride today.
About 400km done.
Saw the live notification but was riding 🤷♂️
14:55 I know that road! That's the "gedempte diep" near the city centre of Groningen in the Netherlands. The guy was riding in the bus lane, no wonder the bus driver didn't expect him there. Right before this video starts there would've been "BUS" written on the road... but that was conveniently not recorded.
When you said ddtf for the promo code, the first thing that popped in my head was you were saying you were Definitely Down To F, then I put 2 and 2 together. Just thought you should know.
20:59 "Nice"
Dan says, "Make sure you tie your shoes." But I highly recommend that you buy riding-specific shoes or boots. They cover your ankles, have hardened toe spots so you don't burn through your regular shoe(s) from shifting, and oftentimes have straps as well. I promise, you won't lose your shoes and the investment is completely worth it. I've had the same riding shoes for the last four years and the toe is perfectly fine. I think they were $140, but before I had riding shoes I would burn through the toe of my shoe every 3-6 months. That's several pairs of shoes, at best.
Side note: they're Alpinestars brand shoes and everything I have that's Alpinestars runs a little small, so keep that in mind. You may want to hit your local shop and try before you buy.
You can buy 100 pair of flip flops for that much. Thats why I only ride in flip flops
@@jvillain9946 Lol, get yourself some shoes, you squid.
I have the alpinestars smx6 v2 boots. They are so comfortable and I feel very safe in them compared to my amazon specialty boots. Takes a second to get used to shifting in them and always buy a half size down.😊
@@grandprixjames I own the drystar smx6 v2s (red and black). I have more of a problem feeling the rear brake with them. But that's bc i ride a s1krr and it has the smallest rear brake pedal in history. Don't have that problem in flip flops though
@@MGooGM why would I need shoes when I have 100 pair of flip flops. They can act as body armor too with a little duct tape.
9:06 Excellent work, 47
About 25 years ago i seen a police biker knocked off his motorcycle in Liverpool city centre some yards away from his bike still in his riding position lying on his back unconscious , never found out what happened, weirdest thing i ever seen
4:00 That's what happens when you overtake through the double white lines (no overtaking!).
The main reason is he started the manouvre at the same time as his buddies but a whole bunch of metters before, having to overcome an extra distance and tho to build up more speed, what turned a death sentence when the courve turned left and the car suddenly appeared. To sum up, bad skill and group ride arrogance.
Overtaking on double lines is risky, but isn't the devil.
@@martiisbertgelabert569 Sure, I understand the group ride red mist but the double white lines are there for a reason ie danger, danger, danger.
4:00 Overtaking on double solid lines is a BIG no no. They are there for a reason.
The guy with the posturing made me realise how important it is to be able to diagnose such things on the spot. So is there any course or something to learn and get certified in which would help with these things? Would a first aid course teach something like that? Is there an international special motorcycle crash first aid course?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but lifting your butt off the seat essentially makes your body sprung weight with your legs being that additional spring.
First bike, appeared to drive right into the truck?
truck rolled forward while he turned. he took a really weird line for that turn though
12:40 Interestingly, you can train yourself to "dissolve" your focus a little and to perceive your peripheral vision more consciously without detaching your gaze from the actual direction.
If you practice this, it is even possible to perceive movements in the rear-view mirrors when looking through the windshield or over your steering bar
I didn't not look up open book fracture, the last time I was that traumatized was when I looked up blue waffle in the early days of the internet. Don't not look up blue waffle either.
Lumbar practice on speed bumps 😊
I hit a muffler on I-40 in NC going 75mph. Jumped both tires off the ground. No speed wobble or anything, lucky. Watched a 6x6 vibrate off a low boy trailer too once. Swerved when it finally fell off and watched the white Toyota Camry behind me annihilate its bumper and front axle.
Great video as always
"move your eyes then react" isn't great advice. Cover the brakes as soon as you recognise movement in your peripheral vision. Your focus vision is already slower to react, even if you're already focused on the object. You don't need to focus on a rapidly approaching thing to recognise there's a rapidly approaching thing. Cover the brakes and begin slowing while you check what drew your attention.
You should already be practiced enough to automatically begin safe progressive breaking. You should already be aware enough of your surroundings to know what vehicles you're sharing the road with and how close they are. As your focus hones in on the problem, you can adjust accordingly. Just please start breaking before you look at the deer.
the guy that hit the deer was looking at something on his bike or gear right before
The first rider seemed to cut his turn too close to the truck.
Good, I thought it was just me. Seemed like he rode into it.
I mean, it was actually like the truck driver thought he was going to phase through him 😅 nah tight turn but fault lies with the truck driver for moving from the stop before the intersection was clear🎉
Common denominator: speed
in the uk the road marking tell u when it safe and not to it a sold line DO NOT PASS! if the brake of the lines r bigger the easyer and better it is to over take. really good idea btw when u a biker. in scotland roads so windy have lines in the road what line bikers sould take for that coner.
Great video
Damm I looked it up.
You keep telling us not to look up open book fracture. I didn't even know what it is. But since you keep mentioning it, I'm kinda curious. I bet it's never googled so much since you started reminding us 😅
Like opening a book?
Its quite sexy
Where’s that second video taken? Crazy place.
The biker in the first video did so many things wrong. Why'd he turn so early, why didn't he pay attention to the track. So avoidable in so many ways.
hwat are you smoking because ill only take like a quarter of whatever you did
I thought he was cutting that turn extremely tight also, he ran into the truck just as much as the truc k ran into him
I ve see riders sneakers , helmets and glasses fly off
Omg
4:33 What country is that? The drivers don’t even stop, just drive right by.
its Scotland, and several cars do stop within a minute or two, help with directing emergency services to the location
Why did I Google it, then click images.. not good.. 🥴🤢
I think it was a sheep that jumped back in. Goats aren't that stupid.
I ride a motorbike every day (and I crash it/fall off quite a lot 🤷♂🤷♂) but my worst _actual_ recurring nightmare is that when I get up to go to work in the morning, the police are politely knocking on my door (I live in the UK) to enquire about a very specific, quite valuable, stock item which went missing from the warehouse that I worked in about 30 years ago but was neve.r found
Something which I know _absolutely_ nothing whatsoever about.
Also, group rides nearly always end in disaster. Lone wolf ftw 🏆
How do you know its missing and how valuable it is if you know nothing about it? Also what does this have to do with anything? Also also, how do you just fall off your bike constantly?
@@jvillain9946 tbh it's probably just a little bit too tall/big for me so when the tank is full it feels terribly over-balanced, but it's a really nice bike (if a little battered).
I also learnt to ride on a dirtbike so falling off is second nature. Never really grew out of it.
i belIeve that was actually decerebrate posturing... similar but different
Thanks Dan.
this guy definitely wants everyone to search it up..... lol
"He's got kids" that 60-year old man child swerving in and out of lanes has grandkids. This problem is multi-generational. Prime example of the entitlement and downfall of humanity.
stiff= rigor molrtis
My worst nightmare is my mother in law coming over
The riderss confronting the white-haired were going slower in the passing lane.
Then the guy with passenger pulled up next to him like they were gonna punch his mirror.
I'm not defending him, but both sides are doing non heroic acrs.
He could have missed that deer if he was riding anything other than a harley
but I want to hear their dumb excuses
I don't believe in "letting it go". People need to be taught lessons. If they don't, they just continue to make the same mistakes or continue their harmful behavior. Every time you "let it go", all it does is reinforce their bad behavior which will harm other people in the future.
@@jvillain9946 if you really think people are listening to you when you give them their lessons, you're mad. Their ears are closed. They're emotional and defensive. You're just raising your own blood pressure and wasting your time.
@@aidencoder who said you have to act like an asshole when confronting people. You just projected that. Also I didn't say holding people accountable has to be done only while riding. I just said people should be held accountable for their actions and you're arguing against that.
@@jvillain9946 I never said anything about acting like an asshole or being on your bike when you do it. Now who is projecting?
It doesn't make any odds how or where, fools don't listen.
@@aidencoder you sure don't. But eventually you're reflecting you'll get it. Unless you truly are a fool.
With your logic we shouldn't have laws or punishments because people won't learn.
Look up traumatic open book fracture
car driver at 9:54 is just lane sharing. You think it's great for motorcycles to do, well you have to accept it can happen with a car, too
“He’s got a girl on the back”*😆
"If it's raining" when you're watching a clip from the UK. THAT'S RACIST!
Seriously, though, I can't be doing with your calling the benefits of GPS. If you're watching your GPS, you're not watching the fucking road. The GPS might tell you there's a corner, but it won't tell you there's a hole in the road. Screens off, protective gear on, yellow stage at all times.
That doesn't make much sense. That's like saying "Don't look at your speedometer, look at the road!". You don't stare intently at the info being displayed, you glance at. Same as a GPS.
@@Land-Shark Don't spend your time looking at your fucking speedo either. If you're in traffic, you know how fast you're supposed to be going. If you're not in traffic, ride at the pace.
I've got over 40 years riding bikes now, according to the law most of that was way too fucking fast, but I've not run out of road yet. FWIW, I live and ride in the alps, where straight lines don't usually do more than a hundred yards at a time. The majority of accidents shown in these videos are entirely avoidable by watching what's going on around you, watching the road, and riding your ride.
@@Land-Shark I just constantly look at my balls. Theyre fabulous
@@Land-Shark right, as if the mini-map in a racing game ever causes you to crash
@@corneliusthecrowtamer1937 Maybe when I started playing racing games back in the mid-1980's running DOS on a 5.25" floppy disk.
