- Is it just a TARP? Mountain Laurel Design Cricket doesnt have a door? NO PROBLEM. I borrowed this tent from a friend after reaserching into new pyramid shelters.
The Mountain Laurel Design Cricket has a front flap that acts as a wind block but doesnt function as a door but does have some movement in that it can be raised and lowered.
Found out my thoughts on this tent/tarp configuration as I head up onto the Border ridge of England on Scotland on a freezing day for a solo Camp.
Big thanks to Chris Weldon for letting me borrow this!

I subbed @18:45. 😂
Hahahha I’m not sure many have noticed yet
Hi, Stephen, I don't like the concept of a open sided tent, I would imagine in windy conditions the rain would blow in, A dry summer night may be different! I would like to see this tent when it is pouring down and very windy! Good video anyway! Cheers Mark.
The Cricket works well in very windy and rainy conditions it's grand, I've had it 3yrs and never got wet. You can remove the front pole and drop the beak if needed. I use the shelter year round in all conditions. Mind it's not for everyone, horses for courses.
Nice one mate , perfect conditions you got there , looks a canny shelter , I like the thrudark jacket too , great area up there mate , I can’t wait to get back out up that way when I’m fit enough ,thanks for sharing mate atvb Deka 👍🏻
What a camp that looked, that sunrise is why I love wild camping. That slip at the end man 😂
ah honestly mate - wiped out! was looking for the sniper..
Absolutely gorgeous atmosphere my friend, this looks and sounds beautiful!
thank you!
Canny Shelter that like 😂 that sounded like GPMGs firing in the distance 😊
No idea mate I was nearly on the deck at the start 🤣
Nice one bonny lad. I'm know the area very well as I shoot on the ranges. Easy to get disorientated in the fog ! You had some better warm kit this time yes...the quilted trousers make a huge difference. Merino wool mix long sleeve vests work well..and layered. Ear plugs not only keep sound out but head heat in..latex are best, not sponge. It's amazing how the little treats like a Snickers or Mars bar can lift the mood. A pal of mine was on exercise in Norway with the Paras..12 lads in a 2 man tent..cutting up 1 Mars bar with a razor blade ! Like manna from heaven. Stay warm 👍 - you'll be complaining about the heat in a few months ! 😂
Cheers for the message Chris. Yeah just tweaking kit to be comfortable. It’s all about learning and owt wrong with a treat 🤣
Nice and quiet with beautiful views nice one mate😊
Thank you 👍
Great video as always mate
Thanks mate appreciate it!
Tidy piece of kit man. Seeing the cricket makes me Wana get my lanshan out man.
Very soon Chris with the better weather coming
Great video and a nice location. Cheers 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video. Cracking scenery. I'll be doing my first wild camp around that area (Border Ridge.). Helped by your videos. My tent will have a door though😀
Hope you have a belta!
Enjoyed that. I could find no 'real life' review of the Cricket when I was doing ULW tent / tarp research, so it was really good to see you using this in regular UK conditions. Sadly you said very little about it apart from the ease of pitching. Would love to see you use this again and share your comments on practicality, condensation, wild weather handling etc. Having tried a flat tarp, I think if I were ever to use a tarp again it would be a shaped one like the Cricket.
Thanks mate let’s see what I can conjure up 👍
Can imagine that tent being class on a summer camp. Know the feeling about the weather too, I try and save my camps for good weather but then timing around work just hardly works so you end up going out anyway. Glad you got the sunrise 🌅. Cracking video
just got to get out dont you!
I like the look of this tent.
I don't like being enclosed.Wonder how it will do in driving rain.
You didn't say much about it.
How much did it cost all in?
I borrowed it from a friend sorry!
So you nearly got shot and your tent lost its door? 😉🤣
Looked a cracking camp mate. Cricket is interesting but I'm a s**tbag and prefer to be zipped up 🤣
Take care,
Adge
Had a feeling it might not be up your street mate and it’s not red 🤣
I like the look of that set up. Question. Did the inner come with the tarp?
No this is a separate inner - MLD do sell and inner
Another cracking video mate. Head up that way at the weekend.
Hope the weathers good for you 👍
Nice video as usual 👌
Thanks again!
I've walked up there a few times in the summer and it's been boggy every time. Do the military stop the big bangs for lambing season?
Im not entirely sure to be honest?
Hi fella, good video, ive seen a few videos of you guys up the toon way camping at the cheviots, looks like some great spots, i might make the effort one day and travel up that way, as for the tent , im not keen on the no door option, looks a hassle to get in and out when you pitch it lower in winds
It’s a beautiful area and very remote. Didn’t see a soul which I love. Yeah a friend of mine was kind enough to let me borrow this. Safe to say I’m going to stick to a duomid!
Is it cheaper without a door 😂
hahaha NO!
Great video, what's the grey thrudark jacket?
It’s the AIGIS jacket
Green all day the Greenall way ⛰️🏞️🏕️⛺
You know it
