That's really the key, might mean a quicker discharge when gaming on battery. But so many people look "level" of a product and assume absolute direct correlation. A Ryzen 9 5900x is competing against the 11900k and not the 5800x because they have the same price. Sure great to know whether or not the 5800x can step on the 11900k and saving money there. But price is should be considered the real playing field for any other product. If the 6800M price compares better to the 3070 or 3060, then that is where the comparisons really lie. And if that's the case the 6700M and lower put AMD in a really good spot, as they can have a current product line option in lower priced laptops. As apposed to Nvidia bottoming out at the 3060.

@@ypcsquirrel That may have been true with older generations. My old RX 480 certainly had driver issues off and on when I used it, absolutely annoying. I have a Radeon 6800 card now as that is all I have been able to get in this chip shortage. I was worried about drivers due to past experience with AMD cards, but I have had 0 issues with drivers since I bought it. This is honestly the best AMD card I have ever owned. I have experienced 0 issues with it.

Just picked one up for $1350. The least you're going to spend on a 3080 laptop is 2250$ with not so great ram and storage. As much as everyone is saying how this doesn't exactly stack up for AMD to be competing with the 3080 directly with the same config. The fact that this laptop cost what a solid 3050ti config cost says a lot.

    • @hoangnguyenvuhuy5535

You can get 3070 for 1k75, which is the same model as 6800M (ROG Strix g15) with 1Tb of nvme and 32Gb ram. So overall it would actually cost more to have the same storage and ram (not that I mind, since with open box excellent the price is pretty much the same)

Most probably that pricing is just an estimate that he got from the rep or else many other youtubers would have shared it too LTT, Jarrod and so on. Also it's only working at 116w but it can reach 145w though so there's that issue. Plus even Jarrod had his 6800m performance below some 3070s. I am sure it's all about early bios, bad ram and asus being conservative on the thermals. Everyone will do a full review so we should just wait.

@5:50 First rule of laptop GPU comparions - never compare a 15” laptop to a thicker 17” laptop for performance. The clocks they’ll hold long term will be different. Also of course driver optimisation will have to catch up. Lastly the price is so relevant here - Dave2D mentioned the price of the 6800M laptop ($1650), most 3080 laptops are $2300 or more.

I bought this laptop on sale at 1099 on November 2022 from 1699 of the original price for the QHD version.
With the money I saved I upgraded the SSD with 2 fast 1TB Gen 3 from Sabrent that runs cool and is much faster for gaming (I have cloned the internal to the first Sabrent and then replace it with another Sabrent for a 2TB total SSD), I replaced the slow stock ram 1Rx16 CL22 with super-fast 2x16GB DDR4 1Rx8 CL20 Kingston FURY (total 32GB) & I also replaced the unreliable WI-FI/Bluetooth card with a fast and reliable INTEL AX210 NGW. All this costed about 320$ that can be 220$ if you go for the more than enough 16GB ram. All the components I have removed I sold them for used and I made some extra cash (about 100$) for the rest of the upgrades.
All the above are super easy to do if you have basic computer skills, 15’ time and a LTT screwdriver.
With the remaining money bought also on sale: one ROG Falchion NX 65 keyboard, one mouse ROG Chakram, the AUKEY PC-LM1E 1080p camera and the Creative Pebble V3 Speakers (total cost another 200$).
All the above upgrades and accessories costed less than the discount I got from best buy and I added a few more $ to the ones I made by selling the stock parts for one QHD LG Ultragear 27GP850-B monitor at 165Hz that is currently on sale at 300$ for a full gaming set up and for bypassing completely the integrated GPU since there is no MUX switch in this laptop.
On benchmarks and on new AAA games this configuration is faster about 25%-30% of the original configuration and faster than a i7 11800H + RTX 3080M laptop that cost about double the original 1699 price of this laptop with smaller SSD and less RAM! All upgrades plus the laptop and peripherals cost me a total of 1820$. All this for a full gaming set up (external screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers and camera) plus 2TB SSD, 32GB ram and fast WIFi6.
Every game run on ultra-settings smoothly as butter.
I highly recommend it even on original price at best buy if you are considering buying the Nvidia variation and you will have the fastest laptop out there and a lot of hard earned $ saved.

@@BeautifulAngelBlossom no for the most part. Even things like nvidia, while not as great as it could be, work reasonably well most of the time.
Many major hardware manufacturers like dell and lenovo, or Intel and amd do a lot of work on linux driver support. Most users will be pretty darn fine overall on linux.

I have an AMD+Nvidia laptop from a few years ago that I bought the same way, refurbed and massively discounted, and the AMD bits of it work super well. Nvidia's laptop dGPU support is unfortunately even worse than their desktop dGPUs on Linux, so getting it to work how I wanted was an exercise in frustration.
