While we have tested the RX 6800M with "normal" (not slow timings) memory, just a reminder that retail units of the Asus ROG Strix will be somewhat slower due to Asus' memory choice and what they describe as a supply constraint on better memory

Buying laptops is a hit or miss sometimes, because you often can't likely see what RAM is used until you closely examine them somewhere if there is any information online...
Not to mention that power supply determines how much your hardware can perform and the constraint between parts if heat becomes a issue as a result of power.
Power gives higher performance but heat drops it...
So if the laptop has a lot of fancy power hog features and bloatware or drivers... It'll suck.

@@robertstan298 Understandable but if the 6800m is cheaper than the 3070 from the SAME company using the SAME CPU(5900HX), then a 6700m might arguably be cheaper than a 3060 with performance that at least would be better than the slightly lower watt 3070s. A 6700m vs 3060 comparison would then make sense from a price standpoint. Being the same price with the 3060 alone would be good if its more powerful, but being cheaper at the same time?? I bought this laptop on sale at 1099 on November 2022 from 1699 of the original price for the QHD version.
With the money I saved I upgraded the SSD with 2 fast 1TB Gen 3 from Sabrent that runs cool and is much faster for gaming (I have cloned the internal to the first Sabrent and then replace it with another Sabrent for a 2TB total SSD), I replaced the slow stock ram 1Rx16 CL22 with super-fast 2x16GB DDR4 1Rx8 CL20 Kingston FURY (total 32GB) & I also replaced the unreliable WI-FI/Bluetooth card with a fast and reliable INTEL AX210 NGW. All this costed about 320$ that can be 220$ if you go for the more than enough 16GB ram. All the components I have removed I sold them for used and I made some extra cash (about 100$) for the rest of the upgrades.
All the above are super easy to do if you have basic computer skills, 15’ time and a screwdriver.
With the remaining money bought also on sale: one ROG Falchion NX 65 keyboard, one mouse ROG Chakram, the AUKEY PC-LM1E 1080p camera and the Creative Pebble V3 Speakers (total cost another 200$).
All the above upgrades and accessories costed less than the discount I got from best buy and I added a few more $ to the ones I made by selling the stock parts for one QHD LG Ultragear 27GP850-B monitor at 165Hz that is currently on sale at 300$ for a full gaming set up and for bypassing completely the integrated GPU since there is no MUX switch in this laptop.
On benchmarks and on new AAA games this configuration is faster about 25%-30% of the original configuration and faster than a i7 11800H + RTX 3080M laptop that cost about double the original 1699 price of this laptop with smaller SSD and less RAM! All upgrades plus the laptop and peripherals cost me a total of 1820$. All this for a full gaming set up (external screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers and camera) plus 2TB SSD, 32GB ram and fast WIFi6.
Every game run on ultra-settings smoothly as butter.
I highly recommend it even on original price at best buy if you are considering buying the Nvidia variation and you will have the fastest laptop out there and a lot of hard earned $ saved.

I think it also because how AMD GPU have less CPU overhead. I suppose on heavy GPU scenes/frames, the CPU is less likely being busy serving GPU demands, so the overall program still work somewhat fluid instead of being chugged a frame or two.
This coincides with how at 1080 resolution, AMD is very impressive. At that resolution, being a lighter render than 1440p, it naturally cranks more FPS, thus more CPU processing needed.
Less CPU overhead means more CPU power available for running the game itself.

Only if AMD made the notebook themselves.
      So at this point, no.

What we need more are low power GPUs for Ultrabooks, similar to Nvidia’s Max Q. As well as Mobile SKUs that can be used by ARM makers on their SoC.

So impressed you chose games that are not cpu bound. These gpu are to strong for 1080p

Having recently bought a 5800H+3060 laptop for 1900$ this gives me huge buyers remorse.

A few years later, found this exact laptop open box for $850. Feel this is a pretty solid deal.

great deal man, the 6800m has aged like fine wine, not to mention its a 12gb gpu that will benifit in newer titles. You don't have to play on ultra settings to enjoy a game, this gpu plays everything I have thrown at it so for medium-high 1440p.

@@xKevmachinex I unfortunately had to return it. Laptop was constantly overheating (not while playing games) and would randomly reboot. Reboots got so bad I could barely log into windows. There's a few forums on the random reboots and terrible liquid metal application from the factory. I know why it was returned to BestBuy now lol

Awesome Job swapping out the terrible base Ram so that we can get a more fair and accurate assessment of performance! Kudos to Jarrod for discovering the suboptimal RAM issue weeks ago with Lenovo Legion 5 pro.

Why not market it as a 6700M and market against the 3070 mobile? Seems like it would be better to take the win on comparisons and be seen as a great 3080 mobile alternative.

That feel when a laptop is now faster than my Desktop..
