That's such a beautiful place! We camped there a couple of years ago - managed to score the very top. @OffRoadRoos will be out in Colorado and Utah this July, if you want to adventure with a really cool group.
I hope you are still reading comments. Thanks for this video. I haven't been able to see any videos elsewhere about possible repercussions for keeping your Subaru hatch open all night. What do you do so your battery doesn't drain? I am looking for tips for my Forester. Loved this video!
@annbolandloveslife Thanks for the feedback! I did another video on how to 'fool' the power rear hatch into thinking it is locked, when the hatch remains open for several days while camping. The lock has to be switched from the open to closed position, and I use a small screwdriver to flip the lock from open to closed when setting up camp. Check out my other video regarding this, or if you still have questions, just ask! Hope this helps and would love to see your set up! Thanks again for watching!

Thanks for the vid. What's your method to keep the battery from draining with the hatch up? I use a carabiner to fake it being shut. Enjoy NM, don't miss the Gila Wilderness!
@@theinfinitepassportTV I use a small screwdriver that I have in the car, to push the metal lock from the open, unlocked position to the closed, locked position. I did a separate video on that as well. Yes, love exploring NM and the Gila! Thanks for the comment and welcome to the tribe!
I have seen other vids where they say to use a carbiner to clip into the hatch lock to turn the lights off. With the dome tent it looks like you can close the hatch with the tent in place, is that the case?
@hermannvalsson4237 The tent is sold on Amazon, and it is the Napier Sports/SUV tent, bought for under $300. Let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching and your question/feedback!
Excellent question! I use a small screwdriver to push the rear latch up, to 'fool' the car thinking that the rear hatch is locked. Then, when we get ready to leave the campsite, I manually push the rear hatch down gently, close to the latch, and hit my power lift gate button inside the vehicle to move the hatch up and down a couple of times and then the rear hatch mechanism unlocks and hooks back up to the latch, and the rear hatch returns to its closed position. Does this answer your question? If not, I may add a video to show what I do instead of explaining in words...if you do not 'fool' the vehicle into thinking the rear hatch is closed and locked, when in fact, it remains open the entire time camping, then, yes, it will drain the battery...I know of others who had that problem, and now do what I do.. I didn't want power rear hatch but it comes with the Wilderness edition...
@@VintageHikerLife I just took purchase of a 2022 Outback and want to camp in it and I love the tent idea. I need to look at the latch on the hatch and see if I can figure out how you did that with the screwdriver.
@@cstacey9163 Let me know if you have any more questions...just use the screwdriver, or for that matter, anything that is strong enough to just 'flip ' or move the locking mechanism from the unlocked to locked position...I do not use my finger for fear of pinching my finger into this lock😉
@Kimberlyise6492 Great question! I actually just 'flip' the hatches locking mechanism from unlock to lock , in order to not drain the battery. I use a small screwdriver to do this task. I also have posted another video that shows how I accomplish this, and so far, I have not had a dead battery after camping for 3 to 5 days. Hope this answers your question and thanks for watching!
I dislike people putting lipstick on a pig. Has anyone of your viewers tried to get out of a confined space like that ? So high up and step on the ground ?? I built something like this and it’s dumb. How do you climb in and remove shoes or put them on? Absolutely no room
@crankshaft007 Thanks for the comment. We take our shoes or boots off inside the tent, and place them on the rear bumper, then step up onto the bumper while lifting up onto the platform. Yes, it's a space where you then shimmy, or crawl until reaching the 'head of your bed-, by the front driver and passenger seats. Weather permitting, opening the large moonroof will provide a more open feeling, around the head, and as I said in the video, I am 5'3" and my partner is 6' tall, and we both have had wonderful sleep when camping. I am unaware of how many viewers have such a similar set up, but would love to hear how they like or dislike this set up.
@@pillbox1240 Hello! Thanks for your question! My reasons for such a build include the following: 1.) able to store most if not all of my camping supplies, including food, camp stove, and bedding for two, in this storage/bed set up, so that we can just pick up and go for a spontaneous and quick weekend trip...2.)no need to load and unload with plastic bins, and then having to remove such bins to make room to lie on the seats. 3.) Before this build, used clear plastic storage bins that had to be removed at campsite, and find a place for such bins inside the tent...which took up valuable floor space...now, the tent is a spacious add on, an extension of the sleeping and storage capability of such a build. Hope this answers your question! Thanks for watching!
@roscored1000 I prefer to sleep up off the ground, especially while traveling and camping in the southwestern US. No fascination, just more comfortable. The tent serves as a place to stand up in and change clothes without difficulty. Thanks for watching!
@@pillbox1240 so sorry for the late reply! Just saw your question. Yes, I could flatten the seats but then have to move all of my food and other items to another location inside the car. When camping with 2 people, it makes more sense to have everything organized and take advantage of all the space the Forester has to offer, and that includes taking advantage of the vertical space too. This set up just keeps items organized and ready to camp with a short notice! Thanks for watching!

The attachment from the tent to the hatch can be 'disengaged ', and the tent becomes free standing, if that is what you are looking for...
