As an actor, the way he describes acting and losing your sense of self is spot on. Couldn't have said it better.

Would love to hear what he means by "walking the line without a safety net" is it about your image as an actor and your work always being judged by the audience? My idea would be that you can always switch to something else if your work doesn't bring you joy, don't necessary means that you shatter if you fall off the line, maybe I misunderstood his message
I think he's talking about trusting that it's ok fail and accepting the anxiety that comes with that because it will always be there. So "walking the line without a safety net" means to relax and be ok with not being in control because you have to lose the self-consciousness and self criticism and trust in the unknown in order to play the role well.
The idea of "walking the line without the net" in this context is the idea that fear/anxiety creates a potential for you to make choices you wouldn't usually make, achieve feats you couldn't usually achieve. Understand that fear makes that possible. He's talking about your fight/ flight response to a situation that the possibility in its worst case could be you mentally broken. Asking if you're able to accept that it's a journey to understand yourself and to that he says yes.

I think he’s talking more about the acting choices and being free within the context of the character. So yes, the lines have to be there, but it’s the way he chooses to interpret the lines and the way he chooses to interpret the character.
