The 45 colt is awesome. In the late 70's me and my best friend both bought Ruger Blackhawk pistols in 45 colt. The loading manuals listed loads for Ruger only. We took advantage of that, and we were loading the Speer 260gr h.p. with 10 grains of Unique, it was a handful. He later bought a Smith 25-5 that was so slick and a pleasure to shoot. He would always say, Don't put the Ruger loads in it! He left this world about four years ago, and I thank you for bringing back those memories. Life is good!
I purchased a used 25-5 about 30 years ago. I wanted a model 29 in 44 mag, but couldn't afford or find one. The 25-5 came with a tricked-out trigger and is smooth as silk. The 4 5 Colt round shoots hard enough for normal work. It came with a wonderful holster. Great round and a fantastic pistol.
The 25-5 was my first firearm. I purchased it used in 1981 and found out the guy that bought it new only fired 18 rounds and decided he didn't like it. I got it for $175 and it came in a mahogany box with a cleaning rod, brush and swab. I still have the box for the first ammo I bought...the price tag is $7.99 for 50 rounds of Winchester Super-X 255 grain! Very expensive to shoot now, but I still treat myself and it always makes me smile!
Never stop to impress me, you Sr make me the Revolver lover I am today ! You Rock 👍 and your well know here in PR . I'm member of different groups of Revolver lovers and most of them know How you are! Good bless you.
My father received a Smith & Wesson Model 10 with a Bianchi Holster as a Christmas Present back in 1989, I eventually received it as a Christmas Present when I received my Taurus Model 94 in .22 Long Rifle (9 shot cylinder, 4"barrel Stainless Steel Finish).
I have my grandfather's s&w 29-3, his 25-5, & his old Ruger single six 45 Long Colt. Great pistols and I've deer hunted with all 3 and they are still accurate.
Classic, take your pick, Man, Machines or All..... The afternoon was blessed with a nice gentle rain..... Surely there shall be nice ripe, slicing tomatoes by the end of June......
I found a 125th anniversary 25-5 while going through my late stepfather’s vault. The gun was in the presentation case along with the book and a commemorative coin. I also have the blue box that the gun itself shipped in. All items are in excellent to mint condition. It was found in a plain cardboard box on a shelf. It needs a good cleaning only because the oil is old and the action is extremely hard.
45 colt standard is no magnum but I think too many people think of the light cowboy loads when they think of 45 colt. And the same kind of mythos surrounds trapdoor 45-70 loads. If you load a 45 colt or a 45-70 to their original specifications with black powder, they will generally run circles around their smokeless counter parts in the same pressure zone. So if you want more out of a 45 colt, but don’t have a Ruger to load to magnum pressures, give some genuine blackpowder a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised by how much power can be brought to bear.
Thank you for bringing out some of your great .45 colt revolvers. I prefer a revolver. Ihave a SAA in .45 colt from the 1920's. It was hard chromed in Texas when it was only a couple of years old. Thought about having it restored to original, but the chrome is still in beautiful shape after 100 years! Still shoots great too.
I was gifted a blued 4” 25-5 in the 90’s. I always thought it was an awesome wheel gun, but it was a bit of an oddity at the time as the single-action .45’s were getting all the attention. I’m glad to see one in the spotlight👍
The blue and walnut N-frame is the most beautiful handgun ever made in whatever caliber. I love the 44s and 45s but don't leave out the model 28. The big bores were made for lead. 45 Colt 255 gr lead SWC cast 1:20 on top of 8 grains of Unique is classic. Just my opinion, of course, but I'll bet an awful lot of shooters agree with me. Thanks for dragging these out, Hickok 45.
Down thru the centuries,, one of the avenues it took as it evolved was to shorten the barrel,, come up with a lighter frame,, and adapt the cylinder to accept 45 Colt, 45 ACP, and 410...the recipe for a standout self defense gun..
An Excellent Report! Myself Like So Many Other people, Prefer A Revolver, I Love Their Classic Look. Another Form of Metal Artwork. Thanks For Your Posting!
I carried a 25-5 on duty back when the ones came out at S&W's 125th anniversary. Even with 255 grain round nose flat point, I never felt undergunned. I had to modify model 29 44 magnum speed loaders because there were none for the 25-5.
@@anthonysharp7645 They eventually did but when I carried it, all there were was the ones I modified from the 44. It was several years when the 25-5 stayed in production that 45's were produced. I still prefer my modified ones to 45's.
I love my Model 65-1 k-frame with a 4-inch bull barrel in stainless steel it was a favorite of the detectives and FBI never fails to fire it eats a healthy load of 357 magnum everytime I bring it out thanks for the video Hickok
As a former gun dealer I’ve owned a variety of guns but held onto my model 25-5 nearly 50-years. No regrets. Thanks for giving this piece the attention it deserves.
Name a great modern release for this combat vet looking to protect my home in Miami. Weapons released in the last 3yrs only. Firearm: 1) semi 2) revolver Rifles Shotguns
Thanks Hickok for sharing this video! Need to get my 25-7 45 Colt out again soon. I may have helped plant the seed of you getting a Model 25 in 45 Colt.
Ross Seyfried cost me so much money! :) . The 454s,475s and 500s Ive bought over the years because of him. Finally a few years ago I realized Im never gonna need that power. Very happy now with my 6" and 8" 25s and 45 Anaconda for the warmer stuff.
Yeah, those big power houses are interesting to try out and to shoot occasionally; however, the bread & butter of shooting enjoyment are things like .357, .38 Special, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, 9mm, .40, .45 ACP, etc.
Ross Seyfried had Hamilton Bowen do some extensive work on his Ruger Bisley. Ross shot some very high pressure loads, and hunted all over the world with that Ruger.
Beautiful gun. I love my .45 Colts. I have a Ruger .45 Colt/.45 ACP Blackhawk that I use mainly hunting and a Charter Arms 3" barreled double action for carry. ;)
Hickok, I’ve been watching your videos since you first started filming on you tube. You and John are a fantastic team together. Thank you for your fun personality, great shooting skills, knowledge on everything firearm related and standing for the Second Amendment! Those are some beautiful revolvers on the table! I love the wood grips on the 25-5. Thanks, Drew357
Speaking of ignorance, I passed up a chance to get a Remington 870 Police Marine Magnum because I thought you had to reach around the trigger guard every shot to hit the pump release. Loved the Maverick-88, of course. Eventually got an old Wingmaster, a little wiser.
Very smart use of Kydex. Most of my small pistols are actually stored in these Alabama Holster holsters. I was just a few minutes ago digging out a bunch of my pocket pistols to do a video ("The Last Pocket Pistol I'd Ever Sell"), and almost all of them live in one of these little Kydex "garages," ready to go with me at a moments notice. :-)
Who doesn't like a sweet revolver. Long time fan here. I would like to see you review the new Henry Big Boy revolvers . It's there first swing and building a hand gun.
Hi hickok45, Well Last year I bought a very nice Springfield 45/70 trapdoor rifle and this year I have the notion that an 1873 colt single action army revolver in 45 would be a nice companion piece. My Sweetie Pie gave me that one word question which is "Why?". I explained that when we pass on and get to Heaven, all questions will be answered. As for now I don't have an answer for her and even for myself. I just want one. Why Not!!!!!
My father had a s&w 357 I never got to shoot it, I was like 12 maybe 14 but I never really cared to much about j frames but I definitely want count them out as unreliable
My goodness some beautiful revolvers. I’d like a 1917 and an N frame 44 or 45. I have smaller k frame smiths and a 1961 second generation SAA. I’m older than you and can’t see buying any more registered (NY State) handguns that my family will have to get rid of immediately after I’m gone
I have a few single action's in .45 Colt but not one double action in .45 Colt. Now I feel I need to correct that, I do have a S&W .45acp double action revolver.
I will never understand why S&W never offered a .45 Colt version of their 4" Model 58. If they had done so instead of mucking around with the .41 Magnum it would have been the most popular police revolver ever. But they refused and in spite of having made a few (3 I believe) Model 50s in .45 Colt, they never cataloged it or discussed it publicly for almost 25 years when they finally began offering 8 3/9" and 6" barreled Model 25-5s while also promising to someday release a 4" version (which again they made only about 200 of) before switching to stainless and offering their 625s. All of the Model 25-5s were sold with improperly throated chambers, which S&W refused to fix, preferring the customers buy the 625 instead. I had to gunsmith my own Model 25-5 to put a 4" barrel on it. The best, in my opinion, commercial.45 Colt cartridge for self defense was the Winchester Silvertip cartridge. Of course that was only produced for a few years as Winchester discontinued all of the Silvertip line after the infamous FBI Miami shootout in which the bullets proved to not work so well on auto bodies and the huge US Govt orders for 9mm Silvertips in 9mm and other calibers suddenly ended. Your ammunition selection should match the intended target. What works well on people often fails if they are inside a car or wearing a bullet proof vest. That's the shooter's fault, not the ammo's. Anyway Silvertips, which were once available in every caliber from .32 on up to ..45 worked pretty well based on what I saw at a few autopsies and ER interviews, Almost as well as Black Talons, but that's a different subject. If you can find a box of .45 Silvertips, buy it.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee just signed several restrictive 2A gun laws. Of course, there will be lawsuits. These new laws put Tennessee right on par with California.
Needs to be a 3rd designation, single action for hammer cocking, double action for trigger or cocking, mechanical action for semi auto. The diff. being wheel guns are pretty hardy but you do the work, simple, the semi, is doing the mechanical work.
The term refers to what the trigger does. Single action, it merely drops the hammer. Double action, it cocks the hammer and drops it. The trigger is doing the same thing in auto pistols. No other terms are needed.
My only N frame, which I *LOVE* shooting, is a .357 Highway Patrolman. Wish I could buy a 25-5, since 45 Colt is my favourite caliber, but alas, those days are gone thanks to the dick tater of kanada. Oh well. I'll enjoy the HP for as long as I can. Thanks for the teaser, Hickok45!!

Beautiful firearms. There is something about blued steel and wood that just sings

Safety phrase: The only safety you can rely on is your own:))))
Smith & Wesson blueing excellent and a N frame classic ❤
To many firearms to remember 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤! That is a beautiful thing !
Thank you for sharing me how it works I picked 1 up 2 weeks ago haven't fired it yet.
You are the ambassador of the revolver. Great video.
Love all those revolvers. Hickok45 is one of those people you just want to meet and chat with. (Shoots good , too)

Hickok for president 🇺🇸😎🙌

Fun fact I just discovered you can fire a 44 special (Buffalo Bore outdoorsman) in a 45 Colt SAA. Yep the Colt's fine and nope it wasn't on purpose.

Beautiful guns!
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee just signed several restrictive 2A gun laws. Of course, there will be lawsuits. These new laws put Tennessee right on par with California.
Waiting for your review on the Henry revolvers. I hope they bring it to CA.
I am very much satisfied with sir's guidance

Thanks for the teaser, Hickok45!!
I need one now.
Back in the late '80s I had a 4-inch nickeled Model 25. I traded it for a new S&W 645. Big mistake....
