- Celebrating 150 years of the iconic Colt Single Action Army revolver, the original .45 Colt!
Disclaimer: I misspoke a couple of times. I mentioned the number of Colts made in a various chamberings from 1873 up to WWI. I meant WWII. Also, I said "18th Century" a time or two when I mean the 1800's or the 19th Century. We don't edit, as you know, so whatever the big dummy says is out there forever. :-)

Unedited versions are often better imo. Unless it's some seriously rated pron... then just, no.
That’s why we are here Hickok 🇺🇸
The key is that you admit it, and set the record straight! 🙂 Kudos to you, and appreciation for all you do!
Hey Mr. Hickcock! We can't be snoopy all the time! ( ahh, someone closer to my age who will get this!) Lol
God bless you and God bless America!
Ouch?! Well, that's what happens, when you play with old guns. They can break. Well, seeing unedited, in my humble opinion, is much better, more realistic. Thanks for a great video, very educational, and fun, as always.
By the way, John found the ejector rod housing screw shortly after we finished the video. All is well, and the firearm is back together. I'll get some Loctite for that screw.
Same reason I have a son! Lol!
Wow, your son found that screw? I'd ship him out west to find some gold bullion for ya. Loved the video, I'm shooting Cowboy Action at present SASS #108564 Lowdown Larry.
What a relief that must be. I know how you feel. Thank you for being you.
Thank God. Only the 51 Navy is a more fun and exciting and challenging and rewarding experience too shoot. Plus the Navy Colt is the most beautiful pistol ever made in my opinion.
Thanks for getting dem fine old colts dirty for us Hickok45!
Man, we love ya Hickock
💗 yes we do 💥 💥
A true TH-cam legend!!!
been watching hikhok since I was about 11 or something
Hickok still the absolute king. No bullshit, no annoying politics.
Just good vibes, cool guns, and destruction of soda bottles.
Yeah
He's such a knowledgeable guy, always learn a lot from watching his videos.

OMG, I'm in Revolver heaven! Thanks HICKOK45 for celebrating this amazing revolver and all it has done over the years. Don't get any better that a SAA Colt!
Willkommen zurück, Sir
I recently acquired a Wrangler 22. Once I started shooting it, I now understand the beauty of single action. Yes, I know it is a 22 but for a plinker, it works just fine.
nothing wrong with a .22. Great gun
Got a tex mod Miami .22 single action and man I understand why they're like being around a celebrity. You just admire them.
Wow. Talk about an All-American line up on that table! Lots of history right there!
What I like especially is 150 years of continuous history. Add to that they are simple, reliable, safe, accurate, intuitive and beautiful. No 30 round magazines, no failures to feed or eject. If all I ever had to defend myself and family was a Colt .45 that would more than meet the need. Thank you Hickok.
Jesus loves you ❤

I enjoy the videos I see nothing but a good channel I serious I've watched probably all of them
Unless the guy you are going up against has a double action.

The coolest gun there is
I agree
Love the Single Action Army,i have a .45 made in 1883 .I feel very lucky to own such an historic item.

@@mariapugh4000 if you haven't already, you should get a letter from the Colt factory on your 1883.
Awesome! I own a 1911 from the First World War… I thought I was cool till I saw this! Hahaha god bless ya
Been watching your TH-cam content for many years now. And I gotta say, the videos like these, where you take us through a trip in time and go through all of the knowledge you possess on the subject material is just superb. Thank you sir. Idc how long these videos are, I will sit and watch it from beginning to end. Soaking up as much as I can through our short trip in history. I consider you pretty much a national treasure sir.
Again, thank you very much.
I have to admit I think the Scholfield is probably one of the coolest revolvers to have ever been developed. My hat's off to S&W!
Man!! I could spend days just talking about and firing these old classics. I live vicariously through your videos.
I can never get enough of your content on the Colt SAA, please never stop, thank you sir.
Hickok 45 is right about the Italian versions of the SAA Colt. Inexpensive and very well made. I have a Pietta in 45LC and I love shooting the gun. Luckily, I am just a few miles away from Taylor's and Co. in Winchester, Va. So on occasion, I will grab a clean drool rag and head to the showroom !! Lash LaRue would approve !
Mr Hickok 45 Sir you sure set a pretty table! Love SAA revolvers they always take me back to a more simpler time.🤠
This is one to watch over and over again!
The history of my early second generation Colt .45 L.C. is most of the history of my life. Bought it at a pawn shop when I was 16, for $100.oo with 200 hundred rounds ammo. Grew up on a small ranch in the south. Oh my, the stories I could tell. My old colt has some history. Still my everyday carry. You can always spot a real gunslinger. He carries crossdraw. Thanks for the videos, especially this one.
Life IS good !
Like you I grew up on a small ranch in Texas and part of the time In Oklahoma on a reservation. There are some of us who carry our Single Action Army on our hip in a quick draw or fast draw holster. Lot of us do fast draw and fire competitions just between us friends for fun along with practice . Some of my friends still do Some fast draw competitions . Yes we are all real Cowboys since we grew up ranching and doing the ranch work from horses. Fun part of our competitions is all of us use Colt Single Action Army’s or similar. We even have some youngsters who go out with us and they shoot their own guns. Which are actually reproductions of the actual ones we shoot on theirs are either a bb or a 177 caliber pellet guns.
What year was it bought for 100.00? My guess is in the late 50s, before tv westerns took off, and so did the gun prices.
You got a great deal. Congrats
July 1967 made my holster from an old saddle. Had local shoe repair shop sew it for .75 cents. Cross draw was always a common sense choice. I still can't think of one advantage to right hip holsters. ?
At the time 100.oo was a lot an all I had. My first pickup I paid 100.oo. 52 Chevy
Thanks for doing a worthy celebration of the Colt SAA. Beautiful collection.
I just ordered a Ruger Valquero with a 4-5/8" barrel that shoots 357 mag, 38 special & 9 mm. You did a review on it earlier and convinced me to buy it. I've got tons of 9 mm. Can't wait to get it! Great video. Very knowledgeable.
In a few days on the 26th of June my colt Single Action Army turns 141 year old. Shipped to Hartley and Graham in New York City On 26 June 1882. Loaded some black powder 45 colt to celebrate that day.
Great way to celebrate!
Cool revolver. Happy anniversary 🎉
I do not mean to complain. A lot of us just love the Colt single action revolver, so much so, that we really want them to be in regular production, which would bring down the price. We want more of them available. I purchased my first Colt single action, in 1973. It came in a "stagecoach" box. It was in .45 Colt caliber, with a 4 3/4 inch barrel, blue, color case-hardened. I gave $235.00 for the Colt and the "stagecoach" box, brand new. I purchased a used "stagecoach" box, a couple of years ago, for a Colt that I bought that had no box. The empty box alone cost me $350.00. That is how much we love our Colt's. It is out of love, for the product, that I "complain". I know you, of all people, understand. As always, thank you for all the really great videos you, and your son, produce for us. Ya'll are a gift. We send love from Texas.
I think they require a enough hand fitting that they might never be in "regular" production. For one thing, I'm not sure there are enough expert gunsmiths around to ever produce huge numbers of these things. They will likely always have to be made in the Colt Custom Shop.
Although, who knows. I never thought Colt would be able to make a Python again, but they have. Could be that they'd have to make changes in the action, though, and it would not be as "authentic." It would be more like a Ruger Vaquero, which is a nice revolver, just not a Colt clone.
What a lovely group of Colts!!
I ordered a colt SAA in .44 WCF (.44-40) from Colt custom shop in 2015 and didn't receive it until 2020. Five year waiting period. It is Nickel. 5.5in barrel, with ivory one piece grips.
Its nice to drink a cup of coffee and relax and watch hickok45’s infectious love for the Colt SAA. Beautiful gun, I prefer the 7.5 inch barrel, I’m from Sweden but man does America have some nice guns, love it.
Wow, looking at that table full of revolvers makes me think of an old Clint Eastwood western " For a Few Dollars More. " Great collection! Thanks for sharing.
love these videosx hickok45! old colt-style revolvers are just incredible.
The greatest TH-cam channel and host about weapons there is. I'm a huge fan. and I love the Colt single action, unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to shoot it, but I'm sure it would be a lot of fun.
Awesome video colt single action army 150 anniversary great video thanks for sharing Hickok45
Love those old shows. What’s cool is I have been watching for years and I have very rarely seen the sam one twice. Shows the work ethic to put out that often of content.
I grew up watching Westerns as a kid and I've always wanted one of these. All my guns are modern striker fired pistols but I'm going to get a classic Colt revolver some day.
Great video!! Beautiful old wheelguns! 45 Colt is one of my top 3 rounds.
Got my first toy gun in 1957 which was a 45 Colt. The bullets were spring loaded with push on plastic tips that would shoot. Then in 1958 I got dual Fanner 50s. 66 Years later I was after the real deal 1873 Colt Single Action Army revolver to go with my trapdoor. It looks like I'll have to purchase a replica piece to save a bunch of thousand-dollar bills. Thanks for another fantastic show.
I remember those guns, I had a SAA and a 1911, you could use greenie stickum caps on them, those were the days!!!
I got my set of Fanner 50s Christmas, '58. I was in second grade. That, and The Lone Ranger lit a fire for Western and other firearms that still burns today.
This revolver holds a special place to my heart😍
Made 50 .45LC listening to this. Thank you, Hickok and happy anniversary SAA '73!
Love these old guns! I learned a lot today.
I took my 3rd Gen SAA out to the range earlier today they are a treat to shoot
I’ve heard the $20 gold coin compared to the value of a new Colt Revolver many times , but I always enjoy hearing it again. Thanks !
You were talking directly to me in the beginning of this video lol. I now have a great appreciation for this firearm, given the history of it. Thanks for the history lesson!
I just searched up "hickok45 colt single action" and saw that this was posted. I've watched most of the single action videos cuz I love the Colt model p. A wonderful piece, iconic, rugged, and reliable!
This is my favorite video and I’ve watched hundreds. I love these guns and have watched ever Colt SAA video you’ve done. One day I will own one of these.
I inherited one of these from my late uncle, he loved all things Cowboys. It's in perfect condition, bought when it was released and it's never been fired. Even the box was kept in perfect condition. I don't know a lot about the history of these revolvers so I found your video very interesting.
Great video! Love the smoke! I have an original 1851 that is in great shape. I fired 18 rounds from it when I purchased it twenty years ago with black powder and of course round ball. What an accurate and great shooting experience.
I love how much jr. sounds like sr., same jokes, same mannerisms, same voice. the legacy will live on!
I need another one!! Thanks, Hickok45!
I love my Taylor & Company 45 six-shooter revolver. Thanks for this video, Mr. Hickok.

Poetic indeed ! Thank you Hickock for all the great knowledge and laughs at times ^^ Happy 150th to Colt also , hope it carries perfection over many more generations of steady hands.
Beautiful collection, as a poor retired gunsmith, I've always loved and wanted an original 45 to admire and shoot occasionally
You are a LEGEND in the Colt .45 world!
My dad and i had a very similar day this year! We had to celebrate. Wheel guns will always be my favorite.
It's great that you get to shoot and enjoy firearms with your dad. Enjoy that as much as you can while he's still around!
@@hickok45 I'm very lucky, thank you.
I may not have a SAA made by Colt, but I tip my hat to Samuel Colt every time I shoot one if my 1873-style pistols. Recently with black powder cartridges! Something about that smoke!
45LC is my favorite cartridge!
Thanks Hickok45 👍
I also can't afford the real Colt but I'm happy with my 1873 Cattleman and 1875 Outlaw (a gift) both with the 7.5" barrels and 45 Colt, the only way to go. Enjoy yours. Great video Mr, Hickok 45.
It’s cool we have 4k videos now. Now compared to the early 1900s and late 1890s
Thank you for this video. You are truly
a treasure
Liked the Video Hickock45.
Like most boys of my generation I grew up watching lots of Westerns. Never owned a Colt. Several Cimmeron's went through my hands. Then I found an old Rugar Vaquero in .44 mag. Faux ivory grips and all. It doesn't matter if I'm shooting 44 special or 44 magnum. It always draws a crowd.
Couldn't stop watching your vid mister person man old dude. Good stuff. Love those old .45s.
just love the old single action six guns. to me they are never out of style. great video. you the man
😊 love the clothes and the passion for the sport, nice collection 😊. This has to be a Hickok 45 classic for the archives. Very interesting and educational entertaining 😮 watching from Trumbull County, Ohio 🇺🇸
Great video showing a Great piece of History. Even if someone like me that owns a Single Action Army from Colt we can either learn something new or it is a refresher course for things that we know knew or heard .
I always love your explanations!
The trigger pulls are fanominal !!! SMOOTH N LIGHT !!!
Looking good, Cowboy !!! 😀👍
Thanks for the video Hickok45. I love old guns.
I dont have a Colt but i recently inherited my Grandfather's Virginian Dragoon SAA in .44 Mag and i love it! It has the long 7.5" barrel and one of my most accurate pistols. Its color case hardened and beautifully done!
Great looking collection of Colts! Ya, just have to love them,,,
It's always nice listening to Hickok and I always learn something new :) channeling my inner cowboy haha!
Mr. Hickock that is the most beautiful table EVER!
Happy anniversary! 150 years not to shabby!
A true classic never goes out of style. Love the Colt Single Action! I dual wield with one CSA and a Schofield. 🤠🇺🇸💪🏻

Thank you for a great Colt history lesson. Got to have one to my pistol collection
Why stop at just one?
My goodness that is a fine collection of SAA’s. I have a couple Ruger Blackhawk’s and they are among my favorite pieces. One day I’ll have a big fine Colt. On to the video: let ‘em pop,
Sitting out in my reloading shed watching a great Hickok video. For a minute I thought it was Sunday morning. Thanks for the video, be well guys.
Keep up the good work brother. I have enjoyed your videos for years.
Colt missed a great opportunity to release a 150th anniversary model and return to production after a 4 year hiatus. They're listed on the website, available at over two times the cost from the custom shop, but as far as anyone can tell, they haven't made any new standard models since 2018 or 2019. It's a shame.
So glad you found the screw John. What a great video and a nice presentation. Thanks Hickok
Awesome duds dude !!! Great as always, thank you for informing and entertaining!!!
I know nothing about guns. But I luv, luv luv the Colt 45. Its just one of those classics that look like the culmination of necessity, workmanship & aesthetic design, all meeting together in beautiful harmony!
The sound of that first Colt SAA sounded better than any other gun you've shot
To me thats Absolutely The Best, Most Legendary and Most Beautiful Gun ever!! My Top Favourite Revolver of all time - The Colt Single Action Army!! The Peacemaker 👍😎😎❤️🩵💚😎💪
Happy Birthday, Colt SAA! Beautiful collection of revolvers. If, I ever have the chance, I would love to get one, and if I ever only had one handgun, it would be it.
Samuel Colt. The pioneer of frontier gunfighting.
Great historical knowledge. Thanks Hickok
Thanks a lot, Hickok45! Very nice of you to present your SAA’s to us on this special anniversary! I hope you find your lost screw. Hahaha. I’ll never get rid of my SAA.
Thank you for the History lesson 🙏 God bless you Mr Hickok 😊
Beautiful collection of Colt Peacemakers
I have been following your channel for 13 years now. The first one I ever saw was when you went after the runaway lawn mower, haha. I've been watching ever since.
Sure do love those old ones, good show Hickock bang bang.😮
My only problem with the SAA is the amount of time it takes to eject and reload.
Without a swing out cylinder, it's a nonstarter for any functional use besides being a conversation piece.
Arguably one of the most iconic guns of all time. Instantly recognizable as THE "wild west" gun (even though cap and ball revolvers like 1851, and 1860 Colts did most of the heavy lifting in the old west).
I would say that it is the number one. If you think from the perspective of showing guns to various people in any country in the world, I bet you the SAA would be the most recognizable and a lot of people would instantly make the connotation to cowboys and westerns. The only other guns that have that status throughout the globe are likely the AK47 and the Winchester repeaters
I own and carry (with smokeless power) version of this firearm everyday. It a great tool.
Samuel Colt was pure genius in his designing and manufacturing of firearms right from the beginning. The SAA was one of the most popular pistols in the Western Frontier and though they are no longer made, command a premium price even for the last versions.
The 1890s to 1910 were the most beautifully crafted SAA Colt's.
I lost that screw on a brand new Super Blackhawk. Had to dig through 8 inches of old frozen snow to find th other parts. I had a short barrel Colt that came out of the custom house. What a horrible action. Felt like kicking a Bailey into gear. I should have sent it back but I just traded it. Now I can't afford one and I miss it again. Isn't that the way things go. Great show.
Gotta get my hands on one of those. I think Matt used to carry the seven and a half inch barrel, and still outdrew all the other guys; except in the early episode, "Matt Gets It", circa 1956.
As a child of the 50s and 60s I grew up with tv cowboys and a love for all things western. Including a good Monte Cristo, Cuban or Dominican. 😉
Only genuine Colt SAA I ever owned was an arsenal rebuilt, now 5-1/2in barreled "Artillery Model" back around '81. No ser.nos. matched and it's bore looked like the inside of a cast iron sewer pipe. Sold it for 3x what I paid for it right before the prices really took off.
Got it's replacement in a Cimarron/Uberti 5-1/2 Model P!
Roland White is a name that keeps coming around every few generations. There was a well known Mandolin picker by that name who died in 2022. His brother Clarence was a Guitarist who played with The Byrds and others. His famous HotRod B-Bender Telecaster (John will explain) is owned by and still used in performance by the vanguard of Nashville hot guitar pickin', Marty Stuart.
Whew! Boy am i glad to see Hickok. That 6 hr video on the empty range worried me.
