The whole game is a unoptimized as hell and Mechanics don't work as intended. But okay, the game only had 18 months development time and is from a technical point of view a big Fallout 3 Mod, that's pushing everything to it's limits, so no wonder.

Here's another fun bit of Toby trivia. In the game OMORI, there is a secret item called the Merry CD, which can be used to play a song composed by Toby himself. Given the age of OMORI's development and the fact the leitmotif of the Merry CD is used in the Snowgrave route of Deltarune Chapter 2, it makes you wonder just how big is Toby's library of created music.

a little interesting note to add to all this, is that Jrpg's MAY have been inspired by what Japanese developers played before they programmed the first 'real Jrpgs', namely PC Wrpgs, usually turn-based. I've no clue if this is true or not, but just looking at the dates for the releases of PC-only rpg's you could make the assumption that at least one Jrpg dev might have been inspired by the rpg's he played, before he made a Jrpg. During the NES days it'd make more sense to assume most Jrpgs where now based on prior Jrpgs, but BEFORE NES, people such as teenagers were messing about with early 8-bit home computer systems, perhaps an MST? and likely played turn based rpg's made by westerners.
This is well thought out on your part. But it’s no , mystery. You are quite right. Hironobu Sakaguchi (final fantasy) and Yuji Hori (Dragonquest) were both fans of wester RPGs Ultima and Wizardry. These are the games they based the jrpg on.
WRPGs came first, and JRPGs just made them good. Now they're all bad; WRPGs went from boring to woke, and JRPGs went from glorious to low budget waifu crap. RIP turn-based JRPGs.
It seems pretty shitty to increase all enemy health and damage by 20% without telling anyone. Sure she was a designer, but it was probably a decision that needed other people to accept it first. Doesn't help that I hate how bullet spongey enemies are in ME2

I kinda miss the series-related videos ^^; How about those? - Guilty Gear, with Maximilian Dood - Xenogears/saga/blade Chronicles, with Matt Simmons from YoVideoGames! - Tales of (Phantasia/Symphonia/Vesperia/Arise), with Eugene and William Morris from The Brotherhood of Gaming
Xenogears must be the greatest game never finished. I love it, and I think it needs a modern remaster/remake more than any other game out there, but I know there's no way that it would be done justice by modern Square Enix. You'll take your occasional callback references and you'll like it, because that's all you'll get. Remasters should be used to improve games that have aged badly, but it sells better to give a graphical update and slight tweak to already popular games.

PCs were expensive and hard to use in the 80s and 90s. So most gamers ever started using PCs until the early 2000s. So their view of pc tends to be “ it’s where you play console games but with better performance”. Many fit hem don’t realize that they used to be two SEPARATE industries with their own stores and magazines and trade shoes. There was very little overlap. Massive of titles like Magic Carpet were game of the year, see it everywhere titles and now nobody ever talks about them.
Look, I get where you're coming from by saying "it's all backwards compatible" but compatibility was ALWAYS an issue, even during the hey-days of Win95/DOS gaming. The hoops I had to jump through to play "100 shareware titles" or "Brutal: Paws of Fury" was ludicrous...
Yeah, you need DOSBox or something similar to play DOS (with varying levels of compatibility) or Windows 3.1 games, while Windows 95/98 games are hit and miss on whether you can play them without major issues or even manage to install them. That's all before even mentioning the incompatibility between Windows and Mac games or other "personal computers" like the Commodore 64, etc....

Just give the fanbase a wide berth and you're set, that's really the only reason people dislike the game It's just a nice and (at least at the time) pretty innovative adventure with a story that despite being serious and requiring a LOT of attention if you want to pickup on the foreshadowing, likes to take the comedical aproach whenever it gets a chance (but never when it's about serious plot points, this is not a cheesy anime) The most interesting part is that your choices matter and the game makes sure to honor them no matter how small they may be. Do you decide to buy a bunch of certain item? you get a small gag. Try to break out of bounds? you get secret content. Kill a boss and load because you didn't meant to? the game will remember it. Backtracking? you can be sure to find more content Thing is, the game has SO many secrets that you really won't apreciate it unless you play it multiple times and look up youtube videos, secrets are still being found today

afaik, Fallout does not use more than 1 core by default and even if you mod it to use 2 the game becomes unstable as hell
